This place is very cozy, offers clean rooms with good showers and the kitchen is well equipped! It is well located on Isla Bastimento which is a lot quieter as the main island. The owner is a very helpful man who wants you to enjoy your stay! We were here at times of strikes and protests in the country. He organized that we could get out some cash which was almost completely unavailable at that time on the islands. He also gave us precious advice on where to go and how to save money. We would definitely come again!

We enjoyed our stay at Bastimentos Hill. It was one of the cheapest places we've stayed at in Central America and we really liked the location and the super friendly staff, especially the owner's son who was a great kid. The room is basic but great value for the price and we highly recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at this property! The location is perfect, central, and convenient for exploring the area. The host was extremely kind and welcoming, making us feel at home right away. Our room, located on the upper floor, was spacious and very comfortable. One of the highlights was the shared terrace on the same floor, offering a breathtaking sea view. The hammocks were the perfect touch to relax and enjoy peaceful evenings. A place that truly stayed in my heart, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing experience!

No issues with the Guest House. The island itself has very, very few food options - as in 2, maybe 3, small restaurants and 2 very, very small grocery stores.

Flexible check in and out, great manager, spacious room with AC and hot water and outdoor hammock areas. Good value for the money.

The lighting in the room is suboptimal, and there's no mirror in the bathroom, which is very inconvenient. The kitchen and common areas were dirty. Gassy smell (paraffin/diesel) coming from the bathroom. No heavy blinds or shutters for windows, so loads of light shines through from hallways and other facilities, seeing as they're not switched off at night. Very few possibilities to hang clothes; lack of hooks and cupboard.

Room was spacious enough and clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Staff were helpful and accommodating. Good A/C system and warm water is a plus.

1) We booked an apartment with kitchen. Unfortunately, there was literally only kitchen furniture, couple of plates and glasses and two very old pots :/ the host gave us an espresso cooker which helped a bit but still didn’t make up for the missing kitchen utensils. 2) The overall cleanness (especially bathrooms and common areas) could be improved. 3) polyester sheets. Generally bearable, but not with such heat and humidity. 4) the damn cockerel under our window starting off at 4 am every day I’m aware it is a hostel so we didn’t expect 5*, but we still paid 70 $/night.

The kitchen is not very well maintained and there was no fridge to use when I was there. There is still some work going on (during the day) to improve (enlarge?) the already big Hostal.

The roosters, which freely roam about the island, were waking us up sometimes around 4am :)

We really liked that we chose Bastimientos island as our base, as it is peaceful and quiet. The hotel is located right in the middle of the town, but it is like 5-7min walk to both ends of it. About 30min walk to Wizards beach (the only beach reachable on foot, for others you would need a boat taxi) I really liked the architecture of it, there are several ladders and it looks like it is climbing the hill :) Enrique is a friendly and helpful host and speaks English so it was easy for us to communicate. Since it was low season, I got the impression that we were the only guests there which made the experience even better. One of the highlights was chilling in the hammocks on the terrace in the evening and enjoying the view over the bay. Room is simple, but has everything we needed: a/c, warm shower, comfy bed.

We booked quite spontaneously after being unhappy at the much more expensive Selina Red Frog (not recommended) and got the apartment with one bedroom and a big living room with 2 more single beds. There's an open kitchen with gas stove and big fridge and a bathroom with powerful shower in the apartment. Beds were comfortable, bedroom has air conditioning and sea view. Everything was clean and decorated with some nice details. Enrique, the owner, is super friendly and relaxed, although not always easy to find him as there was no staff around most of the time (maybe different in high season). He even borrowed me his surf board, which I appreciated a lot! We really liked this sweet hostel, travelling with 2 kids 8 and 11, and we loved the vibe of Bastimentos. You can walk to beautiful Wizard Beach in about 20-30 min. And don't miss Mamis Restaurant at the beginning of the trail, fantastic food and company!

Bastimentos' chicken are very noisy - the Hill Guest House cannot be blamed for that of course

we booked an apartment and this was really a good idea - it came with a lot of space and a possibility to air the whole space in no time just by opening doors and windows kitchen has basic equipment suitable for basic needs (cooking, frying, making coffee) the staff is super nice and helpful (i. e. the damaged showerhead got changed quickly)
