Absolutely fabulous experience, very very kind host who went with us to Balcony walk, to hike to see sunset (and this free of charge). The guest house itself is in the very beginning of the balcony walk, so couldn’t be more convenient. View from the room to the canyon is breathtaking and food was delicious

I can’t really think of anything

We were a family of 5 with 3 teenagers aged 15-18. There are 3 rooms in the stone cottage. One with a double and a single, one with a double bed and one with a twin bed. You have exclusive use of the cottage. There is a small fridge in the rooms and plenty of bottled water is provided. The rooms are lockable and all accessed from the outside. The shower was excellent. The location is perfect, just at the start of the balcony walk. We had a small 4x4 car and managed to get up there fine. We started the walk at 6:30am and were v glad to be back at house when others were starting out. The evening meal was delicious of bbq chicken, curry, daal, fruit and salad, breads etc plenty of power points to recharge devices.

What an incredible stay. This is a real magical place at the edge of a spectacular canyon. Wonderful hospitality from Ibrahim and family, including a wonderful home cooked meal. Ibrahim super knowledgeable about area and a variety of guided options available to guests. We will definitely be back for longer and with friends!

When we arrived at the property, we discovered another couple had already ‘checked in’. There was some confusion as to who had actually booked the property. The other couple didn’t have any reference/booking numbers from Booking but were adament that they had booked it. The owner eventually sorted the confusion out and the other couple left the property. It was a stressful moment especially after a 4 hour drive up the mountain, especially knowing that there is limited accomadation in the village. Finally, they need to clean the window! The view is incredible and only spolit by a dirty window

Location is incredible. Literally the last house on the street with an incredible view over the canyon and just metres from the start of the balcony walk. Property actually has 3 bedrooms, one - with a huge glass window - which faces over the canyon and 2 other rooms which face into the private courtyard which is also a private car park. Dinner and breakfast can be bought from the owner who also took us on a short walk up the mountain to see the sunset.

Not much. Do prepare for a basic kitchen if you prepare your own food. There is one stove and a basic oven. No microwave.

A bit expensive and a WiFi would be nice.

Location was awesome, literally the last house on the path. The house has every facility that you will need. The Sunrise from bed / balcony is icing on the cake. Suleiman, the owner welcomed us personally and showed all the facilities. Came around Sunset to take us to a guided hike on the hill top behind the house. The spot is best for Sunset plus the canyon. We never imagined the spectacle. He brought us dinner and stayed with us until we were done. Shared his school bus / 4x4 driving experience. It was like a Omani home stay with personal touch.

An unbeatable location for walking the canyon early in the morning

Given most visitors have driven a long way and paid a lot of money for most likely a once-in-a-lifetime visit, it would be nice to have clean windows to enjoy the view over the canyon. The beds were also the hardest of any stay we had in Oman and covered in plastic so it made for a not-so-comfortable night.

The Balcony Rest house is in a superb location on the edge of the Jebel Shams Canyon. We drove in with a 4-wheel drive car, but you could get there in an ordinary car if you took it slowly as only about 7km of the road is unsealed. Either way, you would definitely want to arrive before dark as the roads are not easy to navigate. The room was large with a great view over the canyon and it was convenient to have a kitchen to prepare our meals as there is nowhere close to eat out.

The room and bathroom were generally clean, but the detergent used had a very intense and tiring smell. I'm very smell sensitive and I couldn't stay there more than 1 day because of the headache it gave me. So it's just a tip if you have similar problems.

The host was amazing, very helpful, guided us to make sure we didn't get lost and even waited for us to take us right to the house. But the location... This is an absolute highlight. In the middle of nowhere, quiet (except for the goats everywhere, which I love), no parking problems. The room was spacious, with a nice table outside to enjoy some fresh air and breathtaking views. There is no WiFi, but the cellular network works perfectly.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Balcony walk rest house. The room was very spacious, and we had 2 good nights of rest. The best part is the stunning view of the canyon, this is literally the last house on the hill, and you get plenty of peace and privacy. We loved watching the stars from the garden at night, and having peaceful breakfasts with a view. The beginning of the balcony walk trail is 1 min walk. There is kitchen in the property but if you want a meal provided this is also possible. We had dinner once at another house nearby offered by a lovely lady. The host was very helpful, he is also a tour guide if you need help with anything or transportation. He picked us up from a close by village where we had to leave our car due to heavy rain (we had a normal car), and drive us back when it was time to leave. If it doesn’t rain you can drive up the mountain with a normal car if you have good driving skills and you’re not 4 people packed with suitcases but if there is rain it is dangerous. The roads can be steep and uphill at times.

The shower sink in the bathroom is in the middle of the bathroom as it is in almost every Omans properties. So after showering all the bathroom is wet.

The location of the property is at the start of Balcony walk. We stayed one night and started Balcony walk at 8am. Before groups. We returned at 11.30 and took a shower. Our car was parked in front of the room. For getting there you definitely need 4WD car. Last few kilometers are realy bad. There is posibility for local breakfast for 3orm per person. There is also a small kitchen where you can prepare a breakfast on your own. The host was friendly. He explain us everything. He was waiting for us with tea.

You have to pay by cash, there is no possibility to pay online. We were caught off guards and didn't have enough. The host will find a way for payments. We had to pay for the camp fire at night, but it is ok to support local business. There is no restaurants or shops around, it's all serviced by the neighbors. Meals included, cooked locally. You can with eat at the neighbor's place or delivered at your terrace.

The property is at the top of the hill, right at the edge of the Wadi Ghul, few meters away from the Balcony walk hike entrance. Needless to say you are blessed by an incredible sunset and sunrise view. It's quiet at night. The host will show you around and offer you welcome drinks and dates to set you up to a good start. There is a heater in the rooms, should you feel cold at night.

Lack of information, that we can not get to the apartment with a normal car. 4x4 is essential and we needed to pay extra for a transport. But it was worth it. Towels were from dry cleaners?!

Nature around, beautiful landscapes, sunrise from your bed, fantastic mountain, friendly goats :-)) heating in the room was working, night was very cold but full of stars :-) friendly owner welcoming us with Arabic coffee and was waiting with us till sunset to guide us to the top of the mountain using short cut.
