The walk down the hill to the site!! But it's totally worth it

Ian was extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful. Facilities were everything we needed them to be plus a bit more.

This place is just a little slice of heaven. Waking up to having breakfast overlooking the sounds with freshly baked breakfast foods. It was luxury while still keeping its rusticness. We stayed in the Yurt and it was very spacious and the beds very comfortable. The outdoor shower was nice and warm and the hot tub was a real treat. We made the most of the pizzas and even took some away for lunch on the next leg of our hike the next day. The hike down from the QCT is definitely an adventure but well documented on the website so wasn’t unexpected. Absolutely loved staying here.

Loved our stay here, it was the highlight of our trip to NZ. We stayed in the yurt and found it to be very comfortable. The views are fantastic and enjoyed the hike up to the Queen charlotte track. Ian’s bread in the morning was a great way to start the day.

A bit of a game finding the place, following a trail of yellow tape tied to trees… thought it would never end but it did. Also dreaded the walk up to continue the QCT in the morning.

Formed one highlight of walking the Queen Charlottes Trail. Very isolated, charmingly rustic, beautiful views, relaxing outside hot tub.

The yurt was wonderfully presented and very comfortable. The host was easy to chat to and has crafted a beautiful space. Provided the opportunity to explore nature without many people around. The hot tub was an added bonus!

Nothing really. I guess the only drawback is that the tides are extreme and to find a sandy beach you have to walk 30 min or bike for 10.

Close to nature , beautiful, and the host went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He baked amazing bread and croissants every morning, came and picked us up from various places and lent us his kayaks and bikes. He was truly friendly and a lovely person. The vibe of the place is in tune with nature. At night you can watch the beautiful sunset from the comfort of an outdoor sofa and slow right down to the rhythm of the earth.

Nothing - no complaints at all

This place is amazing - an experience that you just won't get a predictable motel/lodge/hotel. Ian was fantastic, had the hot tub ready to go after our bike ride and the pizzas were some of the best I ever had .. and the bottle of wine on arrival was perfect! A highlight of our holiday for sure!

I loved Ngahere Hou! I wished we had stayed longer. Ian was the best host - I’m vegan but he was totally unfazed and made vegan pizza and fresh bread for breakfast. This place has such a lovely vibe to it that is hard to explain. It’s gorgeous and quiet and beautiful. There’s a bonus glow worm trip too! I would 100% return.

Our host, Ian, could not do enough for us. We changed plans numerous times due to road conditions, weather etc, but Ian was always quick to reply and offer solutions. Our glamping accommodating offered an experience like no other. The views, the solitude, the wildlife, the breaky (bacon, eggs, oj, coffee, freshly baked bread and croissants) were second to none. Ian's homemade pizzas are pretty awesome too after a hard day's walk on the Queen Charlotte Track.

Unique amazing experience. We had the most memorable stay at Ians place. We arrived after a day of walking, jumped in the spa pool and had a great evening enjoying the view and cheeky wekas checking us out. Ian was a great host and even picked us up after some confusion on our walking route. Pizzas were great and breakfast awesome. Just don't drink too much the night before as the walk up to the ridge is no joke!

The walk down the the accomodation is dangerous (especially in the rain). Power line track very steep and slippery - the bush track after the power line track overgrown, barely fits a single person on the track with having to place one foot in front of the other in hopes not to fall off the track. Slippery with poor track markings at times. It took us about 30 min to get down from the top of the track to the accomodation and a 400m descent. It took 1hour to get back up in the morning however we were okay to walk up after having a rest during the night. We did not want to pay $80 per person to be transferred to Portage where our bags were being transferred to anyways free of charge. The bathroom had no lighting which made it dangerous at night as it was very dark with steps. Bathroom has little privacy and the people staying in the big yurt has a window over looking the bathroom - almost felt uncomfortable being in there as it's completely exposed. Toilet stunk but it was a composting toilet so that's expected. Ground was covered in broken shells? Grit which got all over our rooms floor. Curtains in the summer house yurt were. Completely see through mesh curtains and had little privacy. ALOT of bugs/spiders/mosquitos and bees?wasps?. No fly spray in sight. We would not stay here again - although the place has some positives - if you're worried about the walk from Punga from Portage being too much - it's not worth the massive decent and ascent up and down the ridge to stay here. Just go to portage and avoid staying here honestly. If you are okay with roughing it and a lot of bugs - this'll be the place for you. I am wanting to provide future guests an honest review - we are not townies and are use to camping and doc huts however for the price you pay to stay here it's not worth it.

Ian was a friendly host, comfy bed, yum pizza and breakfast. Interesting experience with checking in early (although we didn't notify the host we arrived at 12.30 ish after 4 hours of walking in the pouring rain completely soaked). Reception is a bell in which you ring and the host will come down from the main house. However in our case we waited about 30 min in the driveway before we decided to escape the rain in the kitchen facilities. Thankfully unlocked. Ian arrived about an hour later without our bags and we waited until about 4pm for our bags to arrived as Ian picked these up along with other guests from Punga cove resort. The bags were left outside our rooms for a water taxi however they were picked up by the host late in the day instead. We were offered a gas bottle heated hot tub (water was a little dirty) but warm. Overall an interesting stay.
