How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe didn't end up having breakfast in the end but it looked great!!
It was quiet and spacious for the two of us. Felt like a really good escape away from devices. We watched the sky all night! Such a great way to stargaze.

Verified reviewI liked that you don't park your cars near each dome. It's more intimate and fun having the wee carts to take your belongings to your dome. Beautiful spot

Verified reviewWe rented two domes during winter, and although we arrived late, everything was well-prepared. The heaters were already on, making the space warm and cozy the moment we stepped inside- well done to the team for the thoughtful setup! They also made sure we had all the information we needed. The dome itself was comfortable, and the bed was cozy, we had a great night’s sleep. Breakfast was simple just eggs, toast, and bacon. We were hoping for a bit more variety, maybe some sausages, mushrooms, or hash browns to round it out. Hopefully, they’ll consider expanding the options next time. That said, we had a fantastic overall experience and would happily come back again! 😊

Verified reviewSet adjacent to a camping ground and close to Lake Hawea the 'Tent's were supremely comfortable, beautifully appointed and staff extremely helpful. It was lovely to lie in luxury in the bed, the fire warming us and see the stars through the tent 'Window. Being double-skinned it was warm and inviting. We were completely unaware of other guests. Breakfast, cooked by the resident chef was a magnificent take on eggs Benny, as well as the usual continental offerings. I can't wait to go back.
Would have loved to use the spa, but didn't realise it was there until the next morning. That's on me though.

Verified reviewIf I could give this place 100 stars out of 10, I would. I feel so lucky that my friend and I snagged a night here - it was hands down the nicest place we stayed in New Zealand. The dome is massive - plenty of space for two people to spread out. The bed is new and comfortable - there is a separate 'closet' space and luggage rack for each person including robe and slippers. Dome includes a full blown coffee station with espresso machine and luxury teas. And the breakfast is delicious - hash browns, poached eggs, sprouts(!!), fresh squeezed OJ, and they give you your own carafe of coffee. The lake is a 5 min walk and with a full moon, it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen (note: this moonlight also pours into your dome through transparent ceiling). The beach nearby has few people and there is a sauna (we skipped this and swam at the beach anyways). Will at front desk came out to meet us and help us with directions/bags to our dome, and the owners were there offering us appetizers. Digby the pupper was also part of the wonderful welcome committee - it was the best arrival experience I've had in years. Richard (Rick?) the owner also recommended what we should do the next day (Siberian Experience), and it was also one of the best things we did on our trip. If there is availability here, do not hesitate to book it. Lovely spot and very special humans. Will even brought me a brownie when I was working late and on calls. Big thanks to everyone at Cross Hill for the unforgettable stay!
NA I cannot wait to go back
Thank you for your wonderful review! Crosshill is truly a stargazer’s dream—especially when enjoyed from the comfort of your own Dome. Lake Hawea is a magical place, and we're so glad you enjoyed it. We’d love to welcome you back again soon. – The Crosshill Team

Verified reviewWhile I would have otherwise said nothing, I've been asked for my review twice now, so here goes. My (adult) son and I traveled to NZ to visit my (adult) daughter who lives nearby in Wanaka. After an evening out my daughter and I returned to our 'dome' (which was really pretty and cool) and she decided to stay with us rather than travel the 20 minutes home. She went to breakfast with us at the lodge and after we were nearly through the meal, the female owner approached my daughter (despite me clearly being the oldest adult) and told her it against policy to have a third guest, that this policy is all over the website and that we were being charged $150 for her presence. I joined my daughter as this chastisement continued and said "OK, thank you." No argument: you say it's your policy and we are the chumps for violating, fine, I accept it. We proceeded to get dirty looks for the rest of our two day stay (my daughter stayed at her home the second night). When I returned home I double-checked the website and while it is rife with warnings not to bring children, and statements of the dire consequences if you do, there are no similar "third guest" warnings. (My children are 27 and 25 btw so to me 'no children' clearly means 'no kids.'). If I had known it would cause such a fit of pique we would have made other arrangements for the evening. We also accepted our punishment without complaint, so someone in the hospitality business should work on getting over themselves, and happily accepted the extra $150 she received for an extra serving of mid French toast and a coffee. This was the only negative interaction we had with anyone during our visit to this lovely and magical country. On the last day of our trip in summing up our most positive/negative experiences, this interaction with the owner of Cross Hill was the only negative. So there is your review.
We're sorry to hear that your stay did not fully meet your expectations. For clarity, Croshill Domes are designed to accommodate two guests only. Each dome contains one king bed, which can be split into two single beds upon request. A hosted cooked breakfast for two is included in the stay. Your reservation was made for two guests, so our host was understandably surprised when a third person joined for breakfast without prior notice. In the future, if additional guests are joining, a separate dome booking would be required to accommodate them properly.

Verified reviewFantastic stay!!
Would recommend to organize the breakfast a bit more, we had to wait quite some time for our breakfast and people who joined the table later than us got served first.. As we were on a tight schedule and had planned to start the day early with a long hike and long drive afterwards we had to reschedule some plans.

Verified reviewThe tents have everything you would expect, even a milk frother and bathrobe.
The heating of a tent in winter is obviously a problem. You must keep the AC running on max the whole night, which is quite loud. The see through window is nice to see stars but blurs the view a bit so you can't see them sharply.
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the stargazing at Lake Hawea—it's truly a magical experience. We’re sorry to hear you weren't warm enough during your stay. Just a reminder: the Domes are equipped with a fireplace that can be used alongside the air conditioning for added comfort. We hope to welcome you back for another visit!
