Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyWe could not really understand if there was a closing time in the evening. We went back at around 9:00 pm and a staff member was kind of waiting for us to close the gate.
Perfect location on Durbar Square,, the only pedestrian rea of Bhaktapur. Stunning view from the window on the square. ATM Machine located just there. The owner helped us downloading the taxi app, offered us coffee and water too which was unexpected but super nice.

PhilippinesThe ceilings in the washrooms are a bit low. Anyone who is more than 6 feet would have struggled to stand up straight in the shower area.
The view from my window was amazing! I stayed for 3 nights and was happy with the quality of food and general comfort of the room for the duration of my stay.

If you want to fully enjoy the atmosphere of Bakhatapur Shiva guesthouse it is one of the most suitable places. Directly on Durbar square, the windows overlook the temples which are so close it seems like you can touch them. The square is alive both day and night so it should be noted that sleep could be disturbed by dogs and morning processions (not if they are held every day or only during the period of the Hindu festivals where we were), we personally we found it very suggestive. The guesthouse is clean, the room spacious and the wifi fast. There is a good restaurant on the ground floor and the staff are very helpful

United StatesI think the only warning I would give is that the Durbar Square can be loud. There are bells that start ringing early in the pre-dawn, workers re-building the temples damaged in the 2015 earthquake, dogs barking through the night, and a lot of fun taking place in the square after dark. It helps to have earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones.
The hotel is on the edge of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and our room looked directly out to the old palace and temples. Our view was gorgeous. When we wanted to go exploring, we could just step out of the hotel and everything was walking distance. The staff were extremely helpful. In fact, there was a glitch in the Booking.com app where our itinerary, inexplicably, did not match the hotel's. We got a bit anxious and stubborn because we had transcribed our intinerary based on our trip listings in the Booking app. But the owner very patiently asked us to sit down and figure it out, and we were humbled to find that our schedule was mixed up. We were able to sort it all out, because we were taking a side trip to stay outside of town for a night, returning to stay at Shiva House again. Shiva House stored our luggage while we were away. Also, the food in the restaurant is excellent. *There is a restaurant right next door as well, with a beautiful garden courtyard, worth checking out. We hired Myla (not sure of the spelling) to drive us to many sites, which was a great help. Everything is easy walking distance from Shiva House, and we loved that we could walk back and take a break at any time.

AzerbaijanI still remember how we stayed in this hotel 10 years ago, that was before the earthquake and we used to spend all our evenings on the bench outside sipping on our masala teas and watching the people on Durbar square. Currently there’s a construction wall right before the entrance which blocks the view unfortunately. Hope the construction will finish soon, I understand that this is something that the hotel owners cannot control. But the temple right in front can be quite loud in around 5-6am in the mornings. Just be ready that the temple bells and people prayers will wake you up every single morning.
This was our second time in this hotel in about 10 years and we enjoyed our stay very much. This time we booked King Deluxe and the room and bathroom was quite large and spacious. Clean, well organized, we had everything we needed. The shower worked perfectly, the mattresses were a bit too soft but still comfortable enough. the cafe downstairs has quite a good menu and we enjoyed our breakfasts selected from the menu on both mornings. The staff was friendly and polite. The location is central, right on Durbar square
