Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Absolutely the highlight of our trip. High quality accommodation, staff couldn’t have been more attentive or helpful. Eco tourism was important to me and is at the heart of Sapana’s ethos. Lots of options for excursions/animal encounters. Gorgeous grounds/gardens

Beautiful setting with charming buildings and lots of tranquility! Many places that allow bird or animal watching, including a yoga house. Tasteful and quirky rooms build with nature and sustainability in mind. The service was outstanding and we loved the evenings in the restaurant.

The staff were so helpful and welcoming. They did so much to make our stay a memorable one. Our room was lovely, clean and tastefully decorated and furnished. The food was great and we also had a cooking class with the chefs - learning how to make delicious Momos!!! We loved feeding the elephants in the morning and hearing about their lives at the Sanctuary. We also took a canoe ride and jungle walk to see crocodiles and rhinos! Our guide from the lodge was so experienced and knowledgeable and took the time to talk to us about the wildlife in Chitwan on our Jeep tour. We loved every minute of our stay!!

Everything. Met the owner, what an inspiring person. I had read some bad reviews on this hotel and could not believe it was the same place. The rooms were clean, bright, decorated and comfortable. The lodge lives up to it's eco-friendly statements and the food was excellent. Most of the staff are training and all were excellent in service and friendliness. The location is right on the river and they walk the rescued elephants there every afternoon. Such a treat to stand next to them. The local rhinos wander past when they feel like it. It's magical. The company truly supports the community. Congrats to you for what you have built. I have already recommended your hotel to friends.

AustraliaNothing. The place is unique and inspirational.
The Sapana Village Lodge is as much an idea as a resort. It is based around a philosophy of changing the local environment by diverting profits to create schools, building a village for a disadvantaged caste that was deeply affected by floods and creating social empowerment programs. If that's not enough they have organic gardens, support an industry making smokeless stoves and have a refuge for old and/or infirm elephants. I have never experienced anything like it. Aside from this, the food is great, the staff are brilliant, the resort is peaceful, the architecture superb and the rooms are excellent. A dollar spent here spins around the community bringing work, opportunity and education to the district of Chitwan. This is an amazing initiative and a treasure in the tourism industry of Nepal.

SwitzerlandOur stay at Sapana Village Lodge was fantastic. One of the highlights was the opportunity to observe and interact with the rescued elephants. Every morning and evening, we could watch them taking a bath in the river, and we also participated in the feeding activity in the morning. The staff at Sapana Village Lodge are incredibly nice and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and were always available with a smile.

IndiaThe wine list could definitely be improved.
Great place in a wonderful location. I had been working in Bengaluru in South India which has a hectic pace of life. To come to this place where all is tranquility was perfect. We stayed eight days and enjoyed the elephants, the golden orioles singing in the garden, no sound of traffic, the all day outing into the jungle, the room, the elephants, my surprise birthday breakfast on the terrace, the friendliness of the staff, lunch with our host and hostess at the hotel. Did I mention the elephants? It was heavenly. I was happy to just stay in the hotel garden for most of the time.

BrazilRestaurant: The service is very slow, it'll take roughly 40-50 minutes for most of the dishes to be ready. Food prices are ok, if compared to similar restaurants in Pokhara and Kathmandu, but they are overpriced for Chitwan. Tours: They’re all hosted by the same guide and honestly, we were not very fond of him. It felt like he was saying random information, without properly telling the story about the place, rushing to finish the tour. He also created uncomfortable situations, being pushy about tips. We didn’t do the safaris with them, just the Tharu Village Experience and the Bush Walk with the Elephants. Hotel: The main problem was the frequent power cuts, at night and in the morning, specially considering the 35-40ºC temperature in Chitwan and the impossibility of using the A/C. In one of those days, I decided to ask the manager if the energy was going to come back and he started running away and shouting at the staff, minutes later, energy was back, which makes me think it’s a hotel situation, instead of the town’s. The shower is very dark. Toilet room needs update. A/C doesn’t work properly, it takes 3-4 hours to actually start cooling down the place. It’s a 20-25 minute walk from the main city center.
It’s a cool hotel from the perspective of Community Based Tourism. They seem very serious about supporting local communities, working with NGO’s to protect local flora and fauna.

United KingdomThe price for food and drink were a little steep compared to our experiences elsewhere in Nepal. The smog from the forest fires and farming fire are quite alarmingly bad. Lack of rainfall in April 2024 meant that the thick smog lingered day after day, reducing visibility and tainting our trip somewhat.
4x4 safari Tours organised by the hotel. If you are a small group, teaming up with another party reduces the individual cost of the safari. Jonac is a fantastic tour guide and made an extra effort to make sure we saw a good amount of wildlife. Hotel is in a beautiful location, right by the river. Domesticated elephants and the occasional rhino taking a bath make the views from the terraces really enjoyable.

United KingdomThe restaurant food was excellent but very expensive. We only ate there 1 night out of 3. The setting was lovely but 3 times the price of food in town. No pool which would have made it exquisite but they have a sister hotel in town which you use free of charge.
The rooms were super, beds were super comfortable. The ambiance was excellence, set in lovely gardens, restaurant overlooking the elephants in the stream. Lots of places to sit quietly and read a book. Very chilled. Very quiet.

GermanyThe time was too short - we should have booked for longer.
The location outside the main tourist area means it is peaceful. If you want to relax there are several different parts of the garden grounds to choose from. Many exotic birds could be spotted in the gardens without leaving the veranda. Watching elephants bathing every day from the hotel grounds was a real bonus. The offered jeep and bird-watching tours were professionally run (the whole day jeep tour lasted over 10 hours! Guides very knowledgable) and worth the money. The food was excellent.

United StatesNot a single complaint.
A wonderful place to stay in Chitwan. Beautiful grounds with gardens. Away from the town so you don’t have all the noise. They have 5 elephants and offer activities with the elephants, which I highly recommend. All the people here are very nice and helpful. You can book all your activities with them. I recommend this as they are better than those booked in the town. I went on 2 all-day jeep drives into the par. Once with 3 others and once with 4 others. Most of the jeeps we passed in the park were crammed with 10 or 11 people. That can’t be comfortable. Also hard to take pictures. I was so happy I was staying at the Sapana Lodge. A highlight was bathing with the elephant. You can get up close to these wonderful animals. Plus, I had only been there a few hours when a rhino came walking through the property. Another great experience. I recommend the Sapana Lodge and give it the highest possible rating.
