Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomDon’t go in the hotter months if you have very small children - there is no AC and fans are insufficient. Lots of morning light.

AustraliaIf you’re a light sleeper, request a courtyard room! The motorbikes are noisy in Baktapur. The courtyard room was perfectly quiet!
Peacock guesthouse is truly one of a kind! The history of the place is so incredible. Wood carving everywhere and incredibly atmospheric rooms and cafe. Breakfast was delicious. But what really makes this property are the owners. They went above and beyond organising laundry, giving advice on exploring the area on foot. Loved the trek from Changu Narayan to Telkot. And arranging transport back to Patan. Thanks so much for everything!

United KingdomRepeatedly hitting my head going through low doorways, but not surprising given the antiquity of the place.
This is one of the best places to stay in the Kathmandu valley. Good price, beautiful building in a beautiful livel place, but quiet at night (except for dogs, but it’s Baktapur). Good food, but also good alternatives in the little square. Also just a short walk from Baktapur Durbar square, pottery square , etc and far more historic beautiful places and buildings as well as the main ones. Lots of activity from parades, festivals , markets and of course great little shops selling carvings, pots, paintings etc. Neither my first stay here, nor, if lucky, my last.

IrelandOn the first day, we had a bit of a struggle getting the hot shower to work. The staff explained that the solar system hadn’t received enough sunlight, so we had to take a cold shower. Thankfully, the issue was resolved the next day, and everything worked perfectly after that.
The location is unbeatable — right on the oldest and most beautiful square in Bhaktapur. This 700-year-old Newari architecture is truly a hidden gem, full of charm and history. We stayed in a room with the best view of the square, and waking up to that scene was unforgettable. The breakfast was the best experience we had during our stay in Nepal — fresh, authentic, and made with care.

NorwayFor us it was not a problem at all and in fact added to the charm of the house, but people with mobility issues should be aware of the narrow and steep stairs and low doorways. The hotel makes this very clear and it surprised me to see people complain about this in the review :)
Super pretty and comfortable! Lovely to see the inside of this gorgeous Newari house. Quiet at night (but busy during the day), nice and flexible staff, just by a cute and lovely village square and temple. Very lovely inner courtyard and wood carving exhibit.

AustraliaThere was not a single thing that we didn’t like about this property. It was perfect!!
We loved the Peacock Guest House. It was in a really great location, and the owners were such lovely, friendly people. We loved how this 700 year old building has been so lovingly restored to present a comfortable, stylish hotel that is also sympathetic to its Newari roots. The showers were hot, the rooms were comfortable, cosy and warm. A hiccup in our plans meant we needed to stay one night more than we had booked and the owners accommodated us without any problem. And with such a beautiful hotel to stay in, we didn’t mind the extra night’s stay and the chance to explore Bhaktapur even more. We look forward to staying at the PGH when we are in Bhaktapur again!

CanadaThe Peacock Guesthouse is a most charming, heritage-rich, and truly special oasis in beautiful Bhaktapur. The staff are welcoming and kind. Their restaurant serves exquisite food. We dined at “home” each evening. We loved observing the colourful life in Dattatreya Square from our window perch. The breakfast is glorious. We savoured every moment of our time in this delightful gem.

United KingdomPerfect location right on a beautiful temple square but still felt quiet and peaceful. The restaurant here is fantastic and the building has so much charm and character. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable but be warned that an old Nepali building is not for tall people! Even I had to stoop to enter the room and I am 5"3 but it was all part of the experience of staying in a beautiful old building such as this. The owner was very friendly and accommodating and arranged a driver to take me on a sunrise drive up to Nagarkot.

Hong KongThe shower could have been better as water pressure was low and there were minor interruptions with hot water, but this is understandable as the building and location are quite old.

- Stayed in Deluxe room overlooking the square (Nov24, 1 night) with great views from the latticed (& glazed) windows. Own private, interior sun terrace with table and chairs to relax. Lovely window seating areas inside the room. - Great location, but can get a little noisy during the day (mopeds), but quieter than other 2 main squares, and will be quieter at night. Close to local Nepali life with lots of alleys to explore and local stores (day & evening), with street food, temples & museums. - Window views of the Temple and ceremonies are perfect for photographers. Note, bell ringing (think cow bells) can start as early as 4am with locals offering puja. - Heritage architecture throughout the guesthouse, in keeping with history & location. A pity the woodcarving is not currently on site due to house building commitments (Nov24), but 1st floor showroom (with beautiful pieces) was open to wander through. - Good breakfast, unlimited Illy coffee (for guests) and good lunch/dinner options (Nepali & international) at the covered courtyard restaurant, Mayur (check time of last orders). Coffee was also offered on arrival whilst checking in. 🙂 - Gentleman managing the guesthouse was friendly & extremely helpful; offering advice on cost effective transport options to other sites, next hotel, airport: -> Using local taxi app: A small taxi, 1 passenger + suitcase was 720 NPR (c. £4), at 5pm (Nov24) for the 30-40 minute ride, with traffic, to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) departure terminal. -> Advised other guests departing for a day hiking trip & moving to next hotel that he could arrange a car to send on their luggage; to save them time & money returning just to collect their luggage. - It can get chilly at night in November. But the double bed had a working electric blanket set up for use, if desired. A hairdryer is also available from the front desk.
