I really appreciated the warm and welcoming staff, who were always ready to help. The location was perfect for exploring the area, and the accommodation offered an authentic local experience that made our stay truly memorable.

Some of the facilities could be improved — several power outlets were not working, and the bathroom felt a bit basic. Considering the price of €55 per night, I think these aspects could be upgraded for a better guest experience.

Stunning place, in suburb location. Helpful friendly staff and great breakfast

Don’t go in the hotter months if you have very small children - there is no AC and fans are insufficient. Lots of morning light.

Peacock guesthouse is truly one of a kind! The history of the place is so incredible. Wood carving everywhere and incredibly atmospheric rooms and cafe. Breakfast was delicious. But what really makes this property are the owners. They went above and beyond organising laundry, giving advice on exploring the area on foot. Loved the trek from Changu Narayan to Telkot. And arranging transport back to Patan. Thanks so much for everything!

If you’re a light sleeper, request a courtyard room! The motorbikes are noisy in Baktapur. The courtyard room was perfectly quiet!

Location, food, comfort, and friendly staff, plus the privilege of staying in a 700 year old Newari-style building.

700 year old historical building, full of character and charm. Excellent location next to the famous Peacock window and close to cafes and restaurants. The staff kindly carry your luggage through the steep stairs. Courtyard is pleasant and the restaurant is great.

Very basic and worn out rooms. Cleanliness can be improved. Bed linen heavily stained, most likely not washed in a machine. Sadly, most parts of the property were dusty. Prices were the same as central hotels in Kathmandu, but quality was not comparable. Property relying on heritage, but not comfort.

The hotel’s historic architecture and its prime location on the square make the stay interesting from a traditional Nepali perspective. The room overlooking the courtyard below was quiet.

Had to use the mosquito net at night (even in late April) after being bitten the first night; too many flies in the dining area; really basic facilities in the room; breakfast was until only 9 am—from 9:30 a carpenter working on a piece of furniture adjacent to the dining area could be heard tapping away; very low door lintels so anyone over 5’10” will have to remember to stoop to avoid banging their head.

    Property response:

Namaste, We have mosquitoes net for mosquitoes, We have insect zapper for insects. Breakfast starts from 7:30-9:30 am Bedsheets are all washed everytime we use them.

This is one of the best places to stay in the Kathmandu valley. Good price, beautiful building in a beautiful livel place, but quiet at night (except for dogs, but it’s Baktapur). Good food, but also good alternatives in the little square. Also just a short walk from Baktapur Durbar square, pottery square , etc and far more historic beautiful places and buildings as well as the main ones. Lots of activity from parades, festivals , markets and of course great little shops selling carvings, pots, paintings etc. Neither my first stay here, nor, if lucky, my last.

Repeatedly hitting my head going through low doorways, but not surprising given the antiquity of the place.

The location is unbeatable — right on the oldest and most beautiful square in Bhaktapur. This 700-year-old Newari architecture is truly a hidden gem, full of charm and history. We stayed in a room with the best view of the square, and waking up to that scene was unforgettable. The breakfast was the best experience we had during our stay in Nepal — fresh, authentic, and made with care.

On the first day, we had a bit of a struggle getting the hot shower to work. The staff explained that the solar system hadn’t received enough sunlight, so we had to take a cold shower. Thankfully, the issue was resolved the next day, and everything worked perfectly after that.

Super pretty and comfortable! Lovely to see the inside of this gorgeous Newari house. Quiet at night (but busy during the day), nice and flexible staff, just by a cute and lovely village square and temple. Very lovely inner courtyard and wood carving exhibit.

For us it was not a problem at all and in fact added to the charm of the house, but people with mobility issues should be aware of the narrow and steep stairs and low doorways. The hotel makes this very clear and it surprised me to see people complain about this in the review :)

We loved the Peacock Guest House. It was in a really great location, and the owners were such lovely, friendly people. We loved how this 700 year old building has been so lovingly restored to present a comfortable, stylish hotel that is also sympathetic to its Newari roots. The showers were hot, the rooms were comfortable, cosy and warm. A hiccup in our plans meant we needed to stay one night more than we had booked and the owners accommodated us without any problem. And with such a beautiful hotel to stay in, we didn’t mind the extra night’s stay and the chance to explore Bhaktapur even more. We look forward to staying at the PGH when we are in Bhaktapur again!

There was not a single thing that we didn’t like about this property. It was perfect!!
