How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe location near the centre of Patan is great. It is also in a inner courtyard, so very quiet. Close to a bank and several shops, also very good restaurants in the area.

Verified reviewIt’s located really in the historical heart of Patan, a 2 min walk to Durbar Square. Breakfast served in a close location was amazingly tasty. Staff is great, super willing to support and assist.
The room located under the roof would need some renovation, especially the bathroom that is quite worn out. Cleanliness could be improved.

Verified reviewThis was hands down my favourite place of this trip I am on. It was a little pricier than guesthouses I usually stay in, but what a treat. Beautiful apartment in a lovely location. I did not want to leave. Much attention to detail: Nice furniture, complimentary Diet Coke. Breakfast also excellent and generous portion.

Verified reviewExcellent location, so central yet set back from the street, such a quiet place. The bed and pillows were so comfy; a large bathroom with space to lay things out. At first we thought breakfast at a different property would be a problem, in fact the breakfast was excellent, led us to have a wonderful evening meal there too. Also, it was good to see Patan earlier in the day, beautiful light too!
No outside space to relax The hall light outside the room, however the staff were very obliging in turning it off in the night, so no problem after all

Verified reviewThe hotel is a beautiful place to stay, its traditional Newari architecture and interior design coupled with the friendly and helpful staff make it my favourite hotel in Kathmandu. Its location is also ideal for anyone wanting to escape the noise of Thamel and to get access to the culture and tradition of Patan.

Verified reviewSmall guest house in a traditional Newar house with four large rooms (one on each floor) and small reception area on the ground floor. Situated in a quiet courtyard very close to Durbar square. My room was big, clean and comfortable with nice bathroom and everything I needed. Staff was helpful and polite and they stored my suitcase while I was on a trek. Very good breakfast was provided in a nearby cafe that was very nice.
Note that there is no common/lounge area in the guest house. This was not a problem for me though. I had lunch a couple of times at cafe Timila, a few minutes walk away, which has a lovely garden and good food.

Verified reviewHotel Patan House is in a great location, just around the corner from Darbar Square but in a quiet lane. I booked the studio apartment and it was a very cute setup at the top of an old Newari house. The apartment had two little balconies that looked out onto the courtyard. The kitchenette was spacious enough to make my own little meals when I wanted to. The staff were amazingly helpful and went the extra mile to make sure I felt safe and comfortable. Generous breakfasts.
Coming back late at night was super safe, but I wish there were a way to easily get back in the house without having to annoy the watchman on duty.

Verified reviewPatan house is a marvel, located three walking minutes away from Historic Pathan, surrounded by sights, wonderful staff and immersed in Nepali life. Simply amazing. The building is wonderfully renovated and the service is excellent.
Nothing, -- but be aware that there is another Patan House near by so check that your driver / taxi brings you to the right one.

Verified reviewThe house in Patan was an old townhouse type of structure with a courtyard in the middle. That made the room quiet. The room and building had a lot of character and was still modern. My son and I enjoyed the Patan area much more than Thamel which felt dirtier and more touristy. I highly recommend staying here.
