Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesFrom the moment you walk into the property, you are welcomed with a comfy loving feeling. The owners on many occasions went out of their way to meet my needs. The food is delicious. Mira is able to make anything requested. Many, if not all, of the ingredients are organic and home grown. I had such a great time hanging out in the evenings whether it be our own dance party or simply sharing a glass of wine. Property is very clean. Much cleaner than I had expected. I’m will miss my new friends but find comfort in knowing I will be back❤️

I assure you that you can please yourself at this wonderful hostel!! I'd love to come back this place in my future, and I recommend my friends who would visit Kathmandu! - Mira & Sudarshan's warm hospitality and thoughtful personalities were commendable. They welcomed me as a real family, and I felt like staying in the real home. I could enjoy chatting with them and other guest over tea or dinner. Following my request, they offered cooking lessons so that I could learn how to cook some traditional Nepali meals (Dal Soup, Curry etc.). I was more than happy, and I'm sure that I would cook after I go back! - Entire building were always well cleaned. Rooms were spacious enough and very clean. - Air-conditioning and hot water were available in the room although it is not so common in Kathmandu. - Small kitchen equipped with plates, cutlery, pan etc. in the room were helpful for me to cook by myself although mostly you can order amazing food :) - Home-made meals were very tasty. They cooked following my preference all the time. ex.) allergy, spicy level, preference of veg etc. - The power went out several times, but there were back up ight in the room, and also wi-fi was available even during the blackout thanks to the backup power. It was soo helpful for me and there was no stress! (blackout happens anywhere in Kathmandu, then you cany blame this place at all :)) - When I had some problems, they were always supporting me very kindly. - There was a cozy rooftop, where you can enjoy great view and fresh air. - This hostel is located in a bit suburb (takes about one hour walk from the central Thamel), but you can find many small shops around. Personally I found several cute cafes around and enjoyed my time there with coffee or tea! I loved them!

AustraliaMum's Homestay was a real homestay for me. Great breakfasts and Dinner, lots of chats and the occasional cuddles with Lucky, the dog. I enjoyed walking around in the neighbourhood as well. As a solo traveller I felt safe, and looked after. My room was absolutely spotless and modern with a very comfortable bed. Both Sadarshan and Mira were so friendly and helpful in every way.

NetherlandsGreat stay. We loved the room, the space, the really comfort bed. But most of all, what a beautiful family this is. We really loved them. They can help you with everything, from store you luggage during a trek to provide a trekking. We already booked through a other organization but next time we definitely book through them. We made friends for life! Place is really good. You can or grab a taxi to tamel or walk around. There are also some places to eat nearby but they also cook fantastic themselves.

United StatesOne improvement that would be nice is air conditioning, although perhaps at this altitude it is not necessary most of the year. The owners did provide a fan upon request, which I appreciated.
I spent three nights at Mum's Homestay and had a very pleasant stay! The owners are very hospitable and easy to talk with, and they went out of their way to make my stay comfortable, including providing a fan and some complimentary tea. The location is far removed from the bustle of downtown, which I like, although it did take nearly an hour to get to the airport on the day of my departure. While staying here, the owners added a longer desk and seating area in the room, which is a nice improvement. The room and house are thoughtfully designed and decorated, and staying in a homestay like this definitely allows a traveler to better get to know local Nepalis. I can heartily recommend this homestay to all travelers looking for a safe, comfortable and friendly place to work or relax in Kathmandu.

AustraliaNothing really.
Mira and Sudarshan were very friendly, thoughtful and caring hosts. Lots of interesting walks can be made from the homestay and it is very relaxing to be away from the mania of downtown Kathmandu. They helped me sort out treatment for a damaged shoulder and were full of lots of ideas of how I could spend my time in the valley. They also attract a wonderful array of guests as well.

SwitzerlandStaying at Mum’s Homestay in Kathmandu was an absolutely unforgettable experience. The location is a bit outside the busy city center, which we loved—it was peaceful, quiet, and the perfect place to relax and unwind after exploring the bustling streets of Kathmandu. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed twice! The rooms were spacious, well-equipped, and always tidy. Everything we needed was there, and more. But what truly made this place extraordinary was the incredible hospitality. The lovely couple running the homestay went above and beyond in every way. They offered a menu with a wide range of delicious home-cooked meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—each dish better than the last! They were always friendly, caring, and ready to help. They chatted with us, offered support while we recovered from the flu, and made us feel so welcome every time we came back. Laundry was no problem either, and every little detail was handled with such warmth. Leaving Mum’s Homestay honestly felt like saying goodbye to family. Both of our stays were truly outstanding, and we can’t recommend this place enough. If you want to experience real Nepali hospitality and feel at home while in Kathmandu, this is the place to be!

United KingdomI could not find anything to dislike.
I stayed at Mum's Homestay in October 2024 and enjoyed it so much that I decided to return for a second visit. I can only say that it seems even better second time around. The accommodation which is in a particularly nice neighbourhood is spotlessly clean. The hospitality shown by the proprietors, Mira and Sudarshan, is second to none. The food served is truly amazing [and I'm a hard cookie to please.]. Have no doubts or worries whatsoever if you are considering booking into Mum's Homestay. I promise you will not be disappointed.

PortugalI have nothing to complain about... We wish we could spend more time there 😀
The building is not in the center of Kathmandu, but the distance is compensated by the tranquility of the neighborhood (much less noisy than the center of Kathmandu) and the hospitality of the owners. Mira is also an excellent cook. For example, it makes amazing soups. As Kathmandu's attractions are located in several scattered areas of the valley, it is a good base for exploring the region using an app on your cell phone to call cheap taxis or motorbikes. It is also possible to reach the center of Kathmandu by bus. We ended up staying longer than originally expected. We quickly felt at home. If you need, the hosts also help plan your visit to Kathmandu or other areas of Nepal.
