How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBooked for one night and extended twice turned into a week! Friendly staffs and a thoughtful vision for connecting with local communities by bringing together travelers from around the world to experience Nepal through a local lens. The space fosters diversity, open conversations, and a true sense of connection through localized events and activities. I really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, varied, nourishing, and prepared with care. The walking tour took us beyond the usual attractions and into the heart of the valley. It’s so much more than just a place to sleep, thank you team!

Verified reviewFantastic hostel! The best one I have stayed at during my 3-month trip. Staff are incredibly friendly and funny. I left some things in my room and they immediately contacted me about it. Conveniently located if you want to explore Patan, for example on one of their many free walking tours. The street is very quiet at night. The restaurant next door serves super tasty authentic dishes from different regions of Nepal and a different free breakfast each day.
There are not really any interesting shops, cafés or bars nearby.

Verified reviewI have to say everything is perfect. It's away from bustling area, but no more than 20mins to get to the center. Everyone is lovely and helpful, including all the staffs and guests. Can't imagine a more cozy hostel than this.

Verified reviewCan be social and easy to meet new people. Common area well spread out. Cute and artsy touch throughout the place. The cat!
The breakfast, yes, the BREAKFAST (my fav time of day) completely ruined my day. I’m still processing how I was made to feel. I’m writing this because we all deserve to be seen and heard. While there are many great reviews here, this was my experience, and it matters too. Sadly, I had a really upsetting moment around breakfast which, for me, is more than just a meal. It’s nurturing, grounding, and something I won’t skip. I genuinely look forward to in between work, especially as a solo traveller working remotely from 6am until the afternoon. I have a fixed schedule, and I need to get my breakfast sorted within a 20min ish morning break. If I miss that window, I’ll suffer from hunger for hours. That’s why I always go for places with breakfast included. And in the five weeks I’ve been in Nepal, I’ve never had an issue, in fact, it’s usually the opposite. That people often try to feed me more or ask if I need anything else because they see I’m working. I asked clearly whether the standard breakfast was vegetarian or if not, what part of it wasn’t , so we could work something out. but no one gave me a clear answer. They just said, You can have muesli or pancake. I really wanted the standard breakfast and honestly, I don’t even like muesli so i asked multiple times if i can have standard breakfast like as in vegetarian. And again i heard i can have muesli, and I didn’t want to be the pain, so I said okay. And of course it is okay too until they got me a tiny glass of muesli and a little fruit -maybe three spoonfuls. It felt like a joke. On the top of this, everyone else was getting full plates with toast, eggs, and the exact same muesli I had. I was still hungry af and still had hours of work ahead and needed proper fuel to get through the morning. My work can be intense sometimes I won’t find a minute to catch a breath for hours. I wouldn’t even feel this mistreated if they made a lil effort to give me a bigger serving of muesli.
We are really sorry to hear you left feeling so unseen and upset. That’s never the experience we want anyone to have at Nextdoor. Here’s what happened from our side: You stayed with us one night in a dorm-bed reservation and joined us for breakfast. Our free breakfast that day was toast, tea or coffee, eggs, and a small muesli-yogurt side. Unfortunately, we misunderstood your vegetarian preference (to exclude eggs) and didn’t offer a proper replacement when skipping eggs: just a small side of muesli-yogurt instead of a full larger portion. That was our mistake. When you raised this around 10am, our team served more toast and eggs after confirming you were okay with them. Sabal and Nikita - our frontdesk and kitchen staff - did their best to make things right in the moment and truly thought it had been resolved. Clearly, it wasn’t. And that’s on us. We’ve since used this as a learning moment and are now creating a new team training around dietary preferences and alternative breakfasts, especially for our kitchen team. Thanks for taking the time to share. We care deeply about honesty, hospitality, and humility. And, we hope we get a second chance to welcome you back one day. Warmly, Jason from Team Nextdoor.

Verified reviewLoved the dorms, probably the nicest I’ve seen in any hostel. The staff were so nice, even despite leaving early they didn’t charge a hefty cancellation fee (1 day fee only).
It was a very open air property, not sure how else to describe it. So you would be breathing in the outside air a lot (which was very polluted when I was there) and also there was some religious thing going on next door because someone died (which of course isn’t their fault) but because of that there was some religious chanting through a microphone from approx 7am till 9pm everyday. It was very loud when I was trying to work or take calls.

Verified reviewI booked Nextdoor Patan after reading wonderful reviews on Booking.com, and I must say, it lived up to my expectations! The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable, providing a peaceful retreat in a quiet location. One of the highlights of my stay was the lovely outdoor space, where I enjoyed breakfast under the warm morning sun—a perfect way to start the day. The breakfast itself was delightful, and the staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive. As my event ran late into the night, the hotel provided me with a main door pin, allowing me to return at my convenience without any hassle. Being a non-smoker, I truly appreciated the smoke-free and odor-free environment, which made my stay even more pleasant. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend Nextdoor Patan to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and well-managed place to stay!

Verified reviewExcellent place to stay - really great location. The double private room was very spacious and the staff were very welcoming. We weren't able to pay by credit card on their system but they sent the link and that worked well. Would recommend. Note that the hotel asked for a review but I would have given them this rating anyway

Verified reviewThe hostel was very clean, and cleaners did really good work every day to maintain the cleanliness. Location was good, but on a quiet road, not much noise outside.. Kathmandu's air pollution is catastrofic, nothing can help that, so the air was overall polluted. Staff was really nice. I stayed in a female dorm, a spacious cubicle with curtains, a big locker and a good mattress.
Restaurant wasn't nothing special. All vegetarian dishes was served without much vegetables, no nutrition values thought at all. Dishes have fancy names, and the Nepali districts were mentioned as origins, but it doesn't help, if the dishes don't keep your hunger at bay.
