How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGood breakfast to start the day. Very friendly and accommodating host, who arranged an excellent tour guide and driver for all the sights I wanted to visit in Patan and Kathmandu. Yellos (host) was kind enough to put me on the top floor, so I wouldn't have street noise. What he didn't know, since I'd forgotten to request a lower-floor room, is that I have a hard time with stairs. There were *many*, very narrow, stairs. He did offer to move me after a couple of days, which I turned down because I didn't want to be a bother. I eventually decided to take him up on it, and thought I'd sent him a text to that effect, but discovered at the end of the day that I'd accidentally texted myself instead of him. So I decided to forget it. The proximity of the guesthouse to the ancient Patan Durbar Square, with its stunning architecture and excellent museum, allowed me to visit the old city twice during my stay.
Oh, did I hate those stairs! I should have taken Yellos up on his offer to change my room.

Verified reviewLoved everything about Hira Guest House. Yelos our host was incredible and went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. He was a wealth of knowledge about the history and everything about Patan. The architecture and artworks in the building was impressive and it felt like we stepped into that time in history. The place was actually better in real life than in the photos. There was also no need for air-conditioning as the building was well insulated therefore sustainable. My husband and I will definitely be returning to Hira Guest House
The was nothing to dislike. The place was perfect

Verified reviewClose to Durbar Square, booked room to experience a 300 year old house.
Room with very low ceiling, dimmed lights and reading nearly impossible, very cold (no heating/air condition) - bathroom dirty, one little soap for three nights, showering difficult as temperature of water is always changing - got a second blanket because of the cold. - friendly owner but very unfriendly staff - had to ask for room service the second day - had to a fight for a dry towel with the staff as towels don’t dry in the cold room - could fill up myself water bottle at a machine - water kettle on demand but had to use my own tea bags - breakfast: one fried egg, some pieces of potato, two slices of toast, pieces of apple / banana - was the most expensive place with the lowest standard and service within three weeks - not a 3star guest house - can’t recommend at at all.
Dear Gerd, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly appreciate your review and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during your stay. Our guesthouse, housed in a 300-year-old architectural gem, is designed to preserve its historic charm, which includes slightly lower ceilings and warm ambient lighting. This lighting is intentionally chosen to enhance the cozy, boutique atmosphere and promote better sleep and comfort, while also reducing eye strain by 20%. We strive to ensure all necessary information about our amenities and services is readily available to our guests. A detailed guidebook is placed near the bed, outlining features such as the remote-controlled heated bed system, heater, laundry services, complimentary kettle and dental kits, daily housekeeping, and cleaning services. We kindly request guests to inform us in advance of any specific requirements, as we prioritize respecting your privacy and only access rooms with prior permission. Regarding the towel issue, we would like to clarify that the towel in question was not provided by our staff. It appears that a subsequent guest removed the wet towels which was for laundry without authorization. We sincerely regret any confusion this may have caused. For your convenience, we provide complimentary mineral water in your room, as well as a 24-hour mineral water dispenser located outside the room, offering hot, cold, and medium-temperature water. This eco-friendly initiative helps reduce plastic waste while ensuring your comfort. Our traditional breakfast, which includes a variety of daily menus, fresh fruits, and beverages, is served to provide a wholesome start to your day. Additionally, for any emergencies, our staff is available 24 hours and an emergency phone number and WhatsApp QR code are prominently displayed in your room for immediate assistance. We deeply value your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide you with a more seamless and enjoyable experience in the future. Warm regards, Yelos Raj Bajracharya Manager Hira Guesthouse.

Verified reviewCheck-in process was good. Traditional Nepali food served for breakfast which was very good.
Bathroom WC did not have health faucet / jet spray. Bathroom ceiling height is too low - so this place is not for people taller than 5'-9".

Verified reviewThe location of this hotel was perfect! Basically right in Patan's Durbar Square. The hotel is in a 300 year old building that used to be the house of the accountant of the king back in the day.The family that owns and runs the Guest house are all very nice and I would stay here again on my next trip through Nepal.
The signage for the Guest House needs to be more prominent, to make it a little easier to find.

Verified reviewHira Guest House is an authentic 300-year old house maintained in beautiful condition. The doorway lintels are low as it was customary to bow when entering a room. It is not a western style hotel. The host, Yelos, is a warm and friendly man, who is happy to share his knowledge and love of Nepalese culture and customs. We enjoyed traditional cuisine and shared a meal with his family.
