This was my first trip to Kathmandu. I chose to stay at this hotel because I wanted to connect with the ancient culture of Nepal. And it turned out even better than I expected! The hotel is new, but the owner, Mahendra, managed to preserve a traditional style in the interior. The rooms are comfortable and overlook a peaceful courtyard, where Buddhist shrines and temples remain. On the second day, Mahendra gave me a personal tour of the hotel’s inner courtyard and the surrounding neighborhood — and it was truly a unique experience! If you want to feel at home while immersing yourself in the atmosphere of an ancient city, I highly recommend this hotel.

There was no hot water most mornings when the hotel was full. But the staff were so nice, they brought hot water in buckets.

Great location, great price, extremely friendly and helpful staff, the hotel overlooks a famous tourist destination but it’s quiet in the rooms.

There was a lot of noise coming from above our room in the morning. It seemed like some renovation work was going on. Other than that everything about the hotel was great.

We loved the hotel and the location. The rooms were clean and bathroom was nice too.

Everything was perfect. The hotel is wonderful, combines the classical style with confort. Very clean and the location is great. Very calm and pretty. The best part was to share with the owner a walk through Patan, were we discover amazing places, learn about the local culture and the life of the people. It was the best experience in Nepal. I would really like to come back.

Lack of communication in multiple occasions. The day we stayed at Heranya Yala, apparently was the front desk worker’s day off, which he didn’t communicate. Lack of care for customers: From what it seemed the staff at night did not care for the satisfaction for the customers. We ordered drinks and snacks of 4000rs+ at 8pm, they told us it wouldn’t take long, but it came to us at 9:30pm. When we tried calling the front desk, no one picked up, why? Because it was their day off which they should have told us. They even tacked on 3 more items on the bill which we hadn’t ordered asking us to pay 5000rs+. There were broken appliances we had asked to replace, they said they would bring it with the food but they hadn’t, and never followed up.

Love the ambiance and the old aesthetic of Nepali architecture. Bedding and pillows were clean and comfortable. AC worked fine.

The rooms didnt have any mode of entertainment if theres a tv installed in the rooms the stay will be extraordinary but bcoz of unavailability of tv or any mode of entertainment the person staying kind of gets bored after a while other than that everything was perfect

Our room was clean and spacious. Great bathroom and shower too. The highlight by far was the complimentary tour provided by the owner of the hotel. He showed us hidden little corners of Patan that we never would have found ourselves, and provided interesting insights about the local history, culture and everyday life. He has a genuine passion for sharing knowledge with the hotel guests and we are richer for it. This part of the city is far more interesting than the touristy Thamel district. If you’re tossing up between the two areas hands down Patan is more culturally interesting.

Everything! Beautifully decorated hotel, very clean, quiet and beautiful rooms, very comfortable beds, extremely nice staff. We want to give special thanks to Manju and Mahendra for their hospitality and warm welcome. Mahendra gave us a complimentary three-hour tour of Patan, showing us off-the-trail locations in his hometown. We also recommend his restaurant Momo King Rooftop in Dhurbar Square. Exceptional. Very thankful for everything!

Heranya Yala is a gem for staying close to all touristic attractions but yet calm and cozy to enjoy your time in Patan. The rooms are bright and spacious, tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean (as well as the bathroom). The bed/mattress was the most comfortable we‘ve had during our one-month-stay in Nepal. Different than written in other reviews, there was always somebody of the staff around when needed, and everyone was lovely and helpful. We highly recommend this place.
