How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

1) I killed about ten cockroaches in the room in one hour. They may have been crawling on me while I was sleeping. 2) There were no towels in the room. None at all! Not a single one. This is a hotel! 3) The door lock was locked with a key and opened with difficulty 4) The hotel looks old and beaten. Dirty curtains, not washed for a long time. But the main thing is the cockroaches. 5) There is no elevator 6) On the central tourist street, you can hear sounds from the street. 7) My booking.com reservation was falsely cancelled by the hotel. I have restored it and am writing this comment. 8) I paid the equivalent of $22 cash per night (3000 Nepalese rupees), but even that is too much for this. I gave the money first and then offered to give me a discount for such a low quality. The owner refused. I moved to a great hotel for a little more money and enjoying the atmosphere here. Never stay here, there are many great cheap hotels in Kathmandu! 9) don't believe pictures
Namaste to all our valued guests, At our property, we are committed to offering warm hospitality and comfortable stays for all. While we typically do not respond to negative reviews—choosing instead to treat them as valuable suggestions to help us improve—on this occasion, we would like to clarify a few points raised in a recent review. Cleanliness and Pest Control: We take hygiene seriously and conduct regular inspections and pest control, especially to manage cockroaches. While it is possible the guest may have seen one or two, this does not reflect our usual standards or overall room condition. Towel Availability: For single occupancy rooms, our housekeeping staff provides one towel as per standard practice. Additional towels were available upon request, and the guest had access to the front office contact number. Despite this, we still extended our apologies for any inconvenience. Door Lock System: We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with our digital lock system and are temporarily using manual keys as a backup. We understand this may have caused some discomfort and are actively working on a permanent solution. Property History: Our building was constructed in 2017, and we have operated it as a hotel since, with regular updates and enhancements to meet guest expectations. Elevator Availability: Our hotel does not have an elevator, and this is clearly stated on our Booking.com listing. We encourage all guests to review property details in advance to ensure our amenities align with their needs. Booking and Refund Dispute: The guest booked through Booking.com and later requested significant monetary compensation in exchange for not leaving a negative review. We offered a 10% discount as a gesture of goodwill, but further demands for cash refunds could not be accommodated. The total booking amount was $24.96, and the guest paid $22. Despite this, he requested an additional refund of Rs. 1000 (approximately $8), which was not feasible. Unfortunately, during his stay, the guest also behaved disrespectfully toward our front desk staff, which we take very seriously. We uphold a culture of respect and expect the same from all who stay with us. We sincerely thank our guests who continue to support us and provide constructive feedback. Your input helps us grow and serve you better each day. Warm regards, Hotel Bihani Pvt. Ltd. Management

Verified reviewThe location of hotel Bihani is in the heart of Thamel, perfect for walking to great restaurants and shopping. The breakfast was great and the staff was always very helpful and kind.
The rooms can be a bit noisy at night. There was a festival for several days during our stay so that may have contributed to some of the extra noise in the area.

Verified reviewI recently stayed at Hotel Bihani for just one day, and even though I arrived before the check-in time, I was pleasantly surprised by how efficiently they managed to accommodate me early. The staff went above and beyond to assist me, especially when it came to arranging taxis multiple times without any hesitation. The room was impeccably clean, and the hospitality of the staff stood out—they were incredibly polite and welcoming. I will definitely stay here again whenever I return to Kathmandu. The location is fantastic, and the people are warm and hospitable. A solid 10/10 to the Bihani team!
