How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We stayed at this hotel a year and a half ago and it left the most favorable impression on us, but this time everything has changed and it is unclear whether the hotel administration has changed or whether it has simply spat on the service. It all started when we arrived and were offered rooms with a view of the road, we asked to upgrade the room category (of course, for an additional fee), the hotel administrator spoke to us as if we were criminals or owed him a large sum of money. Finally, we managed to persuade them to change our rooms, and the rooms that we were offered, it seems, had not been cleaned since the hotel opened, and there were huge stains on the mattress of the bed. The Internet is extremely slow and unstable, periodically disappears completely. The air conditioner is very old, hums like a tractor and water drips from it. All the taps in the bathroom are leaking, it is difficult to turn them off. And all this against the background of absolutely indifferent staff. In general, it is a pity that such a good location in the past has deteriorated so much.
Thank you for returning to stay with us after your previous visit and for sharing your honest feedback. We are truly sorry to learn that this stay did not meet your expectations, especially after the positive impression from your first visit. First and foremost, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused during the room allocation process. We understand that you requested an upgrade, and we regret that our communication during this discussion came across as unfriendly and unprofessional. This was certainly not our intention, and we will review our approach to ensure that all guests feel welcome and respected. Regarding cleanliness, we take this matter very seriously. The issue you mentioned with the mattress and bathroom fixtures is not reflective of our usual standards. We have since carried out a thorough inspection and deep cleaning of the rooms in question, along with necessary maintenance to address any leaking taps and ensure air conditioners are functioning quietly and efficiently. As for the internet, we regret the instability you experienced. Lumbini occasionally faces network disruptions due to local infrastructure limitations, but we are working with our service provider to improve connection reliability for our guests. We truly value your comments about our staff's attentiveness. Your feedback will be used in our training sessions to ensure our team is consistently attentive and responsive to every guest’s needs. We greatly appreciate your acknowledgment of our location and hope that on a future visit, we can provide an experience closer to or even better than the one you remember from before. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your concerns—they will help us improve. Warm regards, Rojen Operations Manager Hotel Ananda Inn, Lumbini

Doesn't turn on generator during power outage and gives explanation that no one was in hotel and therefore, generator was not turned on. However, my wife was sick and was trying to rest in the room. One of the hotel staff knew she was sick and provided water too to her and that staff also saw 3 out of 4 of us guests leave the hotel. Multiple power outages occurred on that same day and they didn't turn on the generator. Even when I wanted to sit in the restaurant, they said there is no electricity. Also, yesterday after check-in, they didn't provide milk for tea and coffee and declined to provide when asked and later the manager explained that guests in this hotel don't take milk with their tea or coffee, only Indians do. Very bad comment to make to a guest. Also, Insects all around and no pest control.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your stay with us. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, and we deeply regret the inconvenience caused to you and your family. First and foremost, we are grateful that you chose to stay with us and that we were able to fulfill your request for adjacent rooms. Regarding your wife's illness, we genuinely hope she is now feeling better. One of our team members did try to provide assistance, including water and checking in on her well-being while others were away. We would like to offer some clarification about the power outage issue. Lumbini, like many parts of the Terai region in Nepal, is subject to frequent voltage fluctuations and brief power cuts due to ongoing infrastructure challenges managed by the Nepal Electricity Authority. Our standard procedure is to wait for a few minutes before activating the generator, as most outages are temporary. This policy is in place to prevent damage to appliances and to the generator system itself, and not intended to cause discomfort to any guest. We do understand the frustration this may have caused, especially when a family member was unwell, and we truly apologize. Regarding the milk request, we recognize how important small comforts like tea and coffee are. While our rooms are equipped with standard tea/coffee-making amenities, we do not keep milk powder by default. However, once the request was made, we did prepare and send fresh milk to the room at no additional cost, purely to ensure your satisfaction. We are very sorry if any part of our communication came across as inappropriate or insensitive. Please rest assured, we value guests of all backgrounds equally and hold utmost respect for cultural preferences. As for the insects, this is indeed a seasonal challenge throughout the Lumbini region, especially during the monsoon and summer months. Due to the open natural setting, rice fields, and humid climate, occasional insects like mosquitoes and flying bugs are common in the area—even in premium properties. Nevertheless, we do conduct regular pest control and will certainly look into further enhancing our preventive measures. At Hotel Ananda Inn, we are constantly learning from feedback like yours. While this experience did not reflect the standard we aim for, we assure you that your comments will be used to improve our services, training, and facilities. We are committed to creating a better experience for all our guests going forward. Thank you once again for your stay. We hope you will consider visiting us again in the future and allow us the opportunity to serve you better.

Verified reviewRecommended by a doctor colleague as the cleanest and best available hotel in Lumbini, Hotel Ananda Inn exceeded all expectations. With close and convenient access to the Maya Devi Temple, it offers not only comfort, but heartfelt hospitality and a rare, spiritual proximity. Kamala at reception brought charm and warmth to the property, while manager Ushan Shilpakar was endlessly gracious. Ramu and Madan at Maitri — the café and restaurant next door — ensured I was consistently well cared for. Clean rooms, a guest-focused energy, and a location that surpasses London, Manhattan, or LA. Thank you all for your gracious and welcoming hospitality. - I highly and sincerely recommend this property to anyone visiting the sacred heart of Lumbini.

Verified reviewThe staff is absolutely marvellous. They are helpful and helped arrange my private car hire to go to the destinations i wanted to visit. Also arranged for my bus ticket to Pokhara. The food was simple but tasty. My favourite was the hot lemon juice with ginger and honey. Haven’t tasted any better anywhere. The location is excellent if you want to go to lumbini. Quiet street. The walled garden is a beautiful and calm place to relax. You need mosquito repellent though.
Hardly anything.
