How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe restaurant made good food and reasonably priced. The plentiful availability of drinking water was convenient. The rooms for comfortable and spacious. The location was very quiet and the beach was 5 minutes on foot.
The shower was kinda cold, and a bit dated as though it needed an update on the tiling. The shower curtain didn’t really keep water in and the lip of the shower was too low. To access anything you do need to use a taxi which in Nicaragua right now seemed much more expensive.

Verified reviewThis Place is incredible. The room are tastefully decorated, beds are super comfortable, the linens impeccable. Everything was very clean, the staff is super friendly. The yoga room on the top floor is insane with big windows overlooking the beach and the misty cloud forest. (My kids were able to run around and blow off some steam in the yoga space during a rainy afternoon - definitely something that we didn’t expect to have such a great impact). The food is definitely above average for a secluded place with fair prices, you can even preorder fresh fish the day before! There’s free water and a coffee station too. The pool includes a kids pool as well, which was great! The beach is reachable by foot and less than five minutes away. We had the beach for ourselves during week days. You can discover tropical birds, monkeys and frogs on the property as well, there even was a brochure explaining which animals you can spot - also something that was just a fun thing to do which we didn’t expect 😁 Definitely would recommend to stay here as a family when there are no retreats ongoing, 10 out of 10!
Honestly nothing come to mind. 10/10
Thank you for your wonderful share! We are so grateful you got to have a full week at ViYarte to soak up the magic of the ocean, jungle and big balconies of ViYarte! We hope you can come back and stay with us again or join a retreat in the next season. Abrazos :)

Verified reviewGreat location for private vacation. Close to a private perfect setting with a great beach. The place is a bit remote and private and a bit removed from the main beach and square. If you are into such a setting with great views, nature, and an excellent staff.
Place is a bit removed from the main town.
Thank you for staying with us Akshay! We are also proud of our amazing staff and ViYarte familia. We also love being right next to a beautiful beach and away from the bustle of town but understand for some they like being close to San Juan. Once the new highway comes in we'll be even faster to get there! Hasta la proxima :)

Hi Claudia, My name is John, founder of ViYarte. I was not on site during your 1 night booking (in our cheapest room option with a shared bathroom), but my team said you were rude to all of our staff and complained about every detail: that there were leaves in the parking lot on a windy day, that our Vintage Pop Up in our Boutique had ‘used clothes’ (which is the point) and the selection of our wine and bar among other things. We understand that you did not enjoy your stay and that is ok. We tried to accommodate each of your many requests with a smile. We hope you enjoy your next destination as we will not be inviting you back to stay with us at ViYarte. Cheers -John & The ViYarte Familia

Verified reviewThe view, cleanliness, and friendly staff.
The churrasco had great flavor but quality meat couldve been better. It was as soft as churassco should be. The tortilla chips with your breakfast option were pretty stale and hard to chew. Soft tortillas would be a better option. Although everything else on the plate had great flavor.

Verified reviewHighly recommend staying here for a longer duration. It was close enough to several beaches, either by walking or easy shuttles, but was also quiet and secluded. The location itself, as well as the spaces within the hotel, are beautiful and set up with a lot of intention. The owner was friendly, informative and accommodating. I highly recommend staying here if you're trying to surf, explore or if you want sunrise yoga and to reconnect quietly. You are close to several restaurants as well as on location kitchen who are extremely accommodating.
It was so lovely to host you Samara! Great to have you for an extended stay and sink into the magic of Marsella. Looking forward to hosting you again. -John

Verified reviewLovely place with a perfect mix of traditional Nicaraguan sensitivities and a little bit of new-agey woo woo, but in a good way, not a cheesy way.
there was never any fruit served with breakfast, and central american fruit is something we really look forward to
Hi Wendy, we hope you enjoyed your stay. Next time, please just order some fruits, we give people option to have desayuno tipico or fruit with pancakes. With your feedback we're also adding fruit bowl with homemade granola and yoghurt as an option for the included breakfast. We agree, the fruit in Nicaragua is amazing! Looking forward to hosting you again soon.

Verified reviewOur stay at Villa Viyarte in San Juan del Sur was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking location, nestled perfectly between lush greenery and the stunning beach. The serene and picturesque surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable family getaway. What truly set our experience apart was the exceptional staff. Sahara and Josue, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect in every way. Their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality made us feel right at home. They were always eager to accommodate any request and their friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our vacation. The beach was a haven of tranquility and beauty, offering the ideal setting for relaxation and adventure alike. Verified reviewThis accommodation looked like a castle from a fairy tale. Very quiet and peaceful environment. Nice clean rooms, terrace with a beautiful view. The pool is also a big plus, although I didn't have time to take a bath because I was exploring the surroundings and the ocean. It's a bit further from San Juan del sur, but the very helpful and friendly Alvaro drove me to town and back. A short walk away is a beautiful quiet beach with a great bar and food.
I really have nothing to complain about. Maybe it's just that it's a bit more expensive by local standards, but it was worth it.
Gracias Tomas! Yes the nickname used to be Castle on the Hill! Alvaro and our staff are wonderful people. We hope to have you come back and stay again soon. Abrazos -John, ViYarte owner
