How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewViews are incredible, rooms are perfect (but no a.c. In deluxe room), beach is really nice, great dinner, staff is considerate, the area around the hotel is unique
Breakfasts are a bit of a let down, no options, always cold, cold coffee, free breakfast is only granola and coffee Food is extremely expensive, more than twice what you pay elsewhere (more than 20-25$ US per plate) Activities are expensive Beach is 15 minutes walking, 4 minutes by car Not any food options nearby

Verified reviewLocation and facilities are BREATHTAKING! We've read the comments prior to booking and they all were right. Gabriel is a pure angel, going beyond and above ! Food was delicious, and the staff was so welcoming and smiling that we regretted not staying more! The private beach is perfect for surfing or relaxing and swimming. We will definitely come back and next time we will experience the Casitas !
We are so psyched we lived up to your expectations and our reviews and most importantly you enjoyed your time at Verdad and will come back again for a longer stay. We look forward to seeing you again

Verified reviewThe views are great and the small hotel with shared meals creates a nice community with the other guests. Food is wonderful. Wildlife including howler monkeys (also your alarm clock) around everywhere.
Our room didn’t have a lock or hot water. Not having hot water would have been okay if it didn’t rain the whole stay. We brought up the lack of lock and all they said is the area is safe… my house at home is safe but I still look the doors…
Brian, thank you for your comments. Our hot water tanks are solar driven and we had an unusual Tropical Storm Sara that stayed with us for a week therefore hot water was scarce. We close in October as it is usually the only month that gets a prolonged period of rain but this was a rare November weather pattern. We are sorry you felt uncomfortable without a door lock although we have 24 hour security above your room. We are in an unusual safe/secure environment.

Verified reviewVery nice private beach, quiet place to relax
The location is quite remote and challenging to reach, especially without your own vehicle. It leaves you entirely dependent on the hotel, even for meals, and the prices for food are exceptionally high for Nicaragua, often more than double the usual rates. Dinner options were limited to just one choice. Moreover, all the activities come at an extra cost, and there are no outstanding attractions nearby. On top of that, the room was small, situated below the dining area, making it quite noisy as every footstep could be heard early in the morning and at night.
Verdad is located on a semi private beach and if you want the San Juan city life and attractions which is 20 minutes away we are not that place. All of our ingredients and meals are prepared by our 3 chefs are sourced locally and fresh daily thus are not "cheap eats". Our fully equipped ocean view yoga and fitness studio is complimentary for exclusive use by Verdad guests. Yes, surf lessons by our pro instructors are extra as we do compensate all our team significantly above the Nica standard wage which is part of our mission .

Verified reviewThe "casita" with the sea view was amazing! Every time we entered the casita I was mesmerized by the view. The vibe is very chill and both the staff and the guests seemed to be always in a good mood.
Besides the hotel and the restaurant at the beach, there are not too many options for food. And the beach restaurant wasn't always open (perhaps because it was low season). However, the food at the hotel was always very nice and they kindly prepared for us a snack on the day the beach restaurant was closed.
Yes ,for lunch we try to support an independently Nicaraguan owned beach restaurant that during low season sometimes is not open. We will always be happy to make you lunch or tapas at the Verdad cocina or pool bar.

Verified reviewEverything was great about our stay apart from the access road which is in very bad condition, I'd recommend to have a 4x4 in case that you're interested to move around... The beach was like a private paradise and the hotel staff was very helpful and next to us whenever we had a desire, at last I'd like to state that the setting is breathtaking.
I'd say that breakfast was poor and can be improved..but the dinner was awesome.
Yes we agree the road getting to Verdad was in poor conditin and the municipality is repairing now and will be paving this year. I guess that is one reason our beach is super private. Did you try our full "Nica" breakfast not just our complimentary early riser light breakfast which usually consists of a vareity of egg preperations, galllo pinto, plantains, and more, and always accompanied by fresh juice and organic french press coffee . Next time the full breakfast is on us!
