The kitchen is not ideal for travellers who want to cook but it is fine for refrigeration / hot water and cutting things.

Amazing views here! We had the bungalow ‘ranchito’ this is such a nice room. You can see the ocean from bed. Everything is handmade with timber. Between the cliff breeze and the fan it was nice and cool inside. The food here is great, we had tacos, burritos, granola, smoothies and the Tuesday curry night was great! Walk to Playa Colorado/Panga was possible, we went a few times across the beach and over the hill in the jungle path. Took about 50 mins each way. Staff here were nice too. An incredible experience if you like good surfing and chill atmosphere with ocean views.

Other backpackers can be slobs and don't clean up after themselves. Don't be one of those.

Monkey House Hostel and restaurant has the best food in Nicaragua hands down. Their Tacos can be compared to Oxaca Mexico. It's well worth the extra $$ to eat there vs. the cheap local places, you won't regret it.

Playa Gigante and the property itself felt safe, however as a solo female traveller, for my personal safetyI didn’t love that the lock on my door was broken. The owner tried, but was unable to fix it. Fortunately their dog took a liking to me and stayed in my room for several nights, so I felt better, but really hope they do prioritize securing the room for future travellers.

Amazing location with a beautiful view and access to two beaches. Food at the restaurant was really good, with several options for the included breakfast. Nice social atmosphere. Staff were very friendly, including one of the sweetest pups I’ve ever met. I stayed in the private bungalow, which was very clean and had a comfortable bed. No hot water, but I didn’t mind given how hot it was without AC- I knew this going in, and the room isn’t built for it anyway, just be aware even with the fan it was very hot at night. That being said it wouldn’t keep me from staying again.

Felt like a was in therapy from morning to evening. So much privacy. Morning walk on the beach was amazing, usually was the only person. Insane views from the chill area. Food was really good. Mono loco smoothie tastes like heaven. Also staff was super nice and chill. Definitely going back. Thanks William and company!

Perfect spot with the most amazing view of the waves and the sunset, this is a relaxing place in a local fishermen village. Don’t go if you expect party, this was very relaxing and the staff was amazing . Too surf location too :)

Be prepared—there is no wifi, or at least there wasn’t when I was there. SIM cards are cheap and there are places in town with wifi.

Monkey house is amazing! The view is insane—every day you wake up and you can watch the waves on Amarillo. The staff is super friendly and keeps everything really clean. Will (the owner) is such a genuine person and really fun to get to know. He tries to make sure everyone is having a good time and likes to chat! The food at the restaurant is awesome and super convenient, and the sunsets from the balcony are unmatched!

Just be aware you may have to cross a small stream on foot to get there. Sometimes electricity goes out in all of Gigante, not the hostel's fault just be prepared.

Absolutely beautiful property with the most amazing view, you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves, watch the sun rise and set over the ocean. Walk straight to the beach. Short walk to town. Everything is super clean.

Kitchen cooking equipment was acceptable but quite old and beat up, could use a refresh at some point! But was overall well equipped and everything was in working order!

Location is amazing! Beautiful views and common spaces to enjoy them. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. Close to the surf at playa Amarillo and a 30min walk around to playa Colorado. A reasonably equipped store, fruit and veg shop, and restaurants within close walking distance. Very close to the amazing local Spanish school! Restaurant on site made delicious breakfasts/smoothies, and had dinner options (not super cheap but similar to most of the restaurants in town). Overall seriously good value for money! Cleaning done daily - so pretty clean even with lots of people using the common spaces. Free drinking water refills was a plus!
