How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaff was wonderful. Was gracious with our Spanish. Super accommodating and kind! Beautiful view and facility. Simple but really great place to retreat!
Extra fan or ceiling fan for the dorms would be great for the top bunk!

Verified reviewThe location is great, the installation are simple but good, it is clean. The place is very peaceful during weekdays.
The food is bad. We tried the burger, the burrito, the nachos, the tostones, the vegetarian plate, breakfast… nothing was decent. And it is expensive. So, definitely not worth it. Bring your own food and enjoy the stay! I recommend staying during weekdays, which is more peaceful and you can actually enjoy the place. We had a group of people on a Sunday that got very drunk on the dock (there’s no protocol about alcohol in the place) and one of them vomit all over the dock and the lake. No one took them out and they continued drinking there. Until I asked the manager to do something about it.

Verified reviewThe view and location is great
The facilities are run down, old and not very clean, staff are unwelcoming & unprofessional - from receptionists to the waiting staff my partner had only one or two positive interactions. One morning the bar girl refused to show the breakfast menu or offer this option to my partner despite cutoff point being 10am and it being 9:45am saying 'yeah it isn't 10am yet but it soon will be', they then called over another member of staff to argue this, who after seeing the time agreed with my partner, however no apology was offered. Other times drinks were ordered, wrong ones delivered and waitresses dismissive of this when we queried it. The online site is greatly outdated including the prices on the menu - with these being double the price in person, something we only found out when checking out. Food was often overcooked and not great quality or small for the cost - having known the prices we would have chosen to eat elsewhere. When we queried the website errors we were told they no longer have access to it and it wasn't their problem.
Dear Andrew, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and that we fell short of your and your partner’s expectations during your visit. We sincerely apologize for the condition of our facilities and the service issues you encountered. Providing a welcoming, professional environment is something we take seriously, and it’s clear we did not meet that standard during your stay. We are especially disappointed to hear about the confusion regarding breakfast service and the errors with your orders — these situations should have been handled with more care and courtesy. We also appreciate you bringing the outdated website information to our attention. While we are currently working on an entirely new site due to not having access to edit, it is still our responsibility to ensure guests have accurate information, and we regret the frustration this caused. Your comments have been shared with our management and staff to address the specific issues you highlighted, and we are taking steps to improve. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future so we can provide the experience you rightfully expected. Thank you again for your honest feedback. Tamara & Don Philip Owners

Restaurant closed very early, which wasn’t the most convenient for us to have an evening drink, because we had to go to another venue and then walk back in the dark.
Dear Lavilla, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed kayaking, the floating dock, and that our team made you feel welcome. We’re sorry to hear that the early restaurant closing was inconvenient for your evening plans — your comments are valuable, and we’ll certainly take them into consideration as we look at ways to improve the guest experience. Verified reviewThe location is amazing. Try to get to the beach before day guests arriving and after they leave it’s the best time to spend time there. It has very nice views & gardens. It’s a hidden gem for sure. The room was nice too.
I really had a hard time to relax during my 3 days stay. When I arrived there was loud construction noise and at the beach day guests listened to loud music. As the construction noise continued the next morning (which is very unpleasant to get woken up by such a noise), I asked if they can quiet it down. I had to argue but in the end they agreed to quiet it down at least in the morning hours. The bathrooms didn’t look always clean even though everyone has to use them all time (incl day guests and staff). It would be appropriate that they would minimum clean and change the trash bins in the bathroom even twice a day, but I guess at some days it wasn’t even cleaned once. The kitchen wasn’t clean and there weren’t even spoons & forks available. After 1 1/2 days upon request I got my own cooking set even though I said upon arrival I would cook. The staff is cooking there as well which is fine but it needs proper care & some updates. It’s annoying to request so much and to point out what’s not working properly. We guests come to stay for a relaxing time and don’t want to address things a manager would need to see first. I wouldn’t come back to stay unless they improve for the price paid for a private room but shared everything. I m so sorry to see such a beautiful place not properly managed, it wouldn’t need much requirements. Easy fixes and attention to detail would be easy which that amount of stuff they have daily working there. I left the place full of stress and happy to move.
Hi Mrs. Irene, Thank you so much for your feedback and we would like to extend our most sincere apologies for all the inconvinience caused. we hope to have the chance to serve you again. Best, Laguna Beach Club Team

Verified reviewFun to splash around in the beautiful warm clear-watered lagoon, fun to borrow their free, included options of paddleboards and kayaks. The staff was all pleasant and helpful. The food we had was decent and not crazily priced. The beds were comfortable and clean with spacious lockers next to the beds with plenty of space for a suitcase and a backpack. Beautiful location and wonderful spot to spend a few nights being peaceful.
Hello Callay, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the beautiful laguna, the paddleboards and kayaks, and that our team helped make your stay comfortable and memorable. It's great to know you found the beds cozy (we recently replaced most of our mattresses), the lockers convenient, and the food enjoyable and reasonably priced. Verified reviewWe really enjoyed our stay here (4 nights) - great place to stay for few days, but if you are with a car (rentacar, Masaya and Granada are 15-20min drive). Water is nice and warmer from the ocean, lots of shade. Rooms was nice, nothing special but clean and big bathroom. Lots of friendly animals. Very clean! You can use the kitchen so I suggest you equip yourself with food and drinks because its not worth it to buy or eat from restaurant.
In the restaurant the prices are apsurdly high (at first they seem normal, but they put a disclaimer that taxes are not included in the price - how would I know what are taxes in Nicaragua? just write down the final price, making me less suprised that I will pay 15$ for a simple meal). In 4 nights, no change of towles or room cleaning. Kitchen is nice but poorly equiped (only 2pairs of cutlery of each, you literally have to wait your turn if there are more guests using a kitchen). If you like peace, I suggest to avoid weekends as there are many people coming in the laguna for a day. Also, next door hotel has parties until midnight or so during the weekend (really loud music, and your windows are basically always opened). And for the end NO HOT WATER (they said it is in the description, but its not as its not anywhere).
Hi Ana, Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your honest feedback. We're really happy you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the warm water, the friendly atmosphere, and the cleanliness of our place. We also appreciate you pointing out areas where we can improve. We strive to be as transparent as possible about pricing by prominently displaying that taxes are not included as well as the percentage,. As customary in Nicaragua, any applicable taxes are typically added during the checkout process before you complete your purchase. If you feel there was a discrepancy or if anything was unclear, we would be more than happy to review to ensure everything was processed correctly. We offer personal cooking boxes to our guests since the cooking and eating utensils seems to disappear frequently but it seems like perhaps you were not informed of this. I will review with the staff the importance of offering our guests the personal utensil box so this doesn't happen in the future as well as offering more regular towel changes for longer stays. Thanks for also flagging the noise from the neighboring property — we understand how that could be disruptive, and we always encourage them to abide by the rules of the reserve. We’re grateful you chose to stay with us and hope to have the chance to host you again — and to make your next visit even better! Here's to safe travels and wonderful adventures in the future. Best regards, Don and Tamara P. Owners

The restaurant should close later (it close at 6 p.m.), and nothing around to buy some food. So bring your own food if you do not want to have dinner at 6 p.m.

Verified reviewRight on the water and can use their kayaks/paddleboards for free. Nice and quiet during the week. Saw a whole family of monkeys in the trees! The staff were also very friendly.
The restaurant could be improved, the food was fine and reasonably priced but nothing amazing. It took a while to get a servers attention to order. In the mornings/evenings sometimes there was no one around to even ask to order. They don’t provide free filtered water which was an anomaly to every other place I’ve stayed in Central America so far.

Bathroom shared with day pass guests Can get busy and can be hard to get a table. It would be better if room guests had reserved tables by the lake. Breakfast starts late and dinner finished early
Hi Kate, Thank you so much for taking the time to write. Your observations are super helpful. Its guests like you that truly help us modify how we run our business. We love the suggestion regarding reserved areas for room guests by the lake. Just this month we modified the kitchen area and those tables to be reserved only for room guests so now we will take that next action. Breakfast starts at 7am, do you suggest earlier? Again, thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again soon!

The water is warm and perfect for a swim. You have free use of all the water vessels throughout the day. We watched howler monkeys eat their breakfast as the sun rose the next morning. So many beautiful birds. A variety of food. Across the parking lot is a little shop to get some snacks/ veggies/eggs if you want to use the kitchen. Many different hang out spots to set up at for the day. Don’t miss out on this magical place on your travels!

Verified reviewThe lagoon setting it beautiful. The pizzas were excellent. The kayaks and paddle boards are included free of charge to use.
There is no aircon and the rooms are small and hot. The bathrooms are communal and very basic. They had a rooster that crowed from 11pm until 6am. I hardly got any sleep both nights. This really needs to be sorted out, there is no point in paying for a room if you don't get any sleep.
Hi David, thank you for visiting us at The Laguna Beach Club. Glad you liked the pizza and the paddleboards too! The room you reserved did not include AC as described but we do have rooms with AC so make sure you check those out next time. Regarding the rooster, indeed we are in a nature reserve and monkeys, roosters and various wildlife are among the noises of the jungle. This is why we provide ear plugs to our guests. Best of luck on your future travels!
