How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewGreat stay at the property! All of the staff and the owner Fidel are incredibly friendly and kind. I ended up extending my stay for 4 more nights because it was such a great stay. Perfect coworking space with strong wifi and AC, and great location in sjds. Nice to have a kitchen, complimentary water and coffee, and a hot shower as well.

The room was very small and badly located - right next to the room behind the front desk / front door. It meant that you heard everyone coming and going, especially problematic on late Saturday night, when guests etc were less likely to be quiet and respectful of other guests already in their rooms nearby and trying to sleep.
We are sad to see that you did not have a good experience. However the hotel is located in the center of town so it does get noisy at times with vehicles passing by and people making noise especially on weekends when its a holiday in Nicaragua. its the same for the rooms on the second and third floor. There is not much we can do about the noise. As far as value is concerned we offer the best product for the best price in the center of town. You stayed in room #2 which one of the best priced rooms for a single person with AC in town where everything is conveniently located within a short walk and the beach is a block and a half away, I don't understand why we got rated a 5 in value. I as the owner always tell my employees that we need to offer the best product for the best price and adjust the prices accordingly.

Verified reviewNice location in the center of everything. Comfortable rooms with AC and fans, nice hot shower. The wifi speed was good and there's a coworking room with all you need, plus multiple tables and social areas. The staff was friendly and made me feel welcomed. I booked 4 nights at this hotel, and I'll stay again whenever I'm visiting San Juan del Sur in the future.

After the second day the wifi went down. No fault of the facility. Things happen. The owner knew this was a working vacation for me so he relocated me up the street to an apartment that he owns with strong internet at no extra charge for the last 4 days of my stay. Much appreciated!! Really great people!

the place is very loud. I was there on a Monday night, and there was music blasting in the lobby until 9:30PM. on top of that, they have tables and chairs set up right outside the room I rented, and there were a bunch of young pople sitting there talking loudly, listening to music, and even singing! Right in front of my door! from 6pm until I finally stepped out at 11:30PM to ask them to keep quiet. 1/2 hour later, they were back at it until 1AM. I barely got any sleep. Doors were slamming shut all night, it reminded me of a college dorm. Ashame, because it is perfectly located, clean and comfortable. But I won't be booking there again, too loud for this old man.

Verified reviewClean room in a great location. AC worked well and bed was comfortable enough. Didn’t use the kitchen, but it looked adequately equipped. Right across the street from where the beach shuttles run from Hostel Oro.
Booked this room for the hot water, which is something of a luxury in Central America, but the shower was very hit or miss in both pressure and temperature.
hello, did you ask one of the staff to check the hot water heater shower head for you? We will send someone to check it now. We get lots water and power outages so sometimes the shower heads break. We are also equipped with a very large water pump and 3 large water reserve tanks so when there is a city water outage which happens often. however the pump need to be turned on so if the staff was not made aware they won't know to turn it on. we get sporadic power and water outages being a third world country. We even have backup batteries for our WiFi so our guests can have a good experience. I am sorry the experience was not great for you.

Verified reviewThe room was ok for 2 persons (not 4 as it in noted for the room). The bathroom is tiny, and the bath floor wasn’t clean enough. The air conditioner was really welcome. The street was really noisy but its was every where like this I guess during the weekend.

The room you stayed in had 2 Full sized beds that does sleep 4 adults, we have comfortably accommodated 4 people in those rooms before. we try to offer the best value in town and want all of our guests to have a good experience.

Verified reviewIf you're travelling and working, this is a great place to stay. The location is central, it's quiet and their coworking area is big enough to fit a small team, it's air-conditioned with views of the beach. Or, if you fancy, you can lounge on the terrace overlooking the bay. The staff is helpful and the place is clean. You can also use the kitchen.
I was in the single room which is the only room without an AC. The fan helps but the room would be perfect if it had an AC.

Verified reviewTruly it couldn’t have been better for the type of trip I was looking for. I loved the upstairs with a balcony. Staff is so friendly and the room is perfect for one person. It still had community places like a hostel with the privacy of your own room. Much better prices than privates in other hostels in the area. Close to the beach and all good places to eat, go out, etc. I’d recommend to everyone!
