How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Thank You very much for your stay with us, we are truly sorry for the inconveniences along the way, it is a highway project over which we have no control and it's changing all roads near us, also the monsoon season didn't help. So for everybody who is reading this, the whole project is estimated to finish in February 2026 but this section near to us will be finished a few months early, don't know when exactly.

The final price on booking didn't include 10% taxes, was written in small letter only after clicking on the little info icon. The water from the shower itched in my eyes.

Verified reviewThe views from the room were nice. The room was colorful and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was good and the hotel helped to organize a scooter for rent.
The location was very remote- it's roughly 15 minute drive to San Juan del Sur. There was nothing within walking distance so you need your own transportation or rely on taxis. It was windy everywhere but because of the location on the top of the hill the wind was horrible.

Verified reviewI was in town for my cousin's wedding at TreeCasa, and was recommended to stay at El Jardin with some of the other wedding guests. I am very happy I did. The view is incredible and the setting very intimate. El Jardin has wonderful, attentive staff and offers an experience that feels like a welcoming B&B, homey and without the cost and pretentiousness of a larger corporate hotel. The breakfast provided daily is very good, as are the offerings on the lunch menu. The room was comfortable and clean, with a view of the ocean. Transportation to and from the hotel was easy, as the staff was happy provide the contact of a taxi driver (which driver was happy to provide transportation for us on our request throughout our stay in SJDS). I had a great stay at El Jardin and highly recommend it.
The mattresses are very firm, but this may not be a problem for others. Additionally, bedding includes only a top sheet and two pillows, which may not meet the needs of many guests. There were periodically some medium-sized spiders in the room, but the hotel is located in a dense, undisturbed jungle, where I'd hope there are more spiders than humans!

The road is difficult to drive. We came during the rainy season with a small two-wheel drive. We made it up the hill, but some may find it to be tricky. I imagine it's not as bad during the dry season.

Verified reviewThere were ants in two of my rooms. They were plentiful and were crawling up on the bed space. The Air conditioning did not work in two of the rooms. The sheets were stained and the pillows were not washed. There was a kissing bug in one of my rooms as well. Kissing bugs can lead to Chagas Disease, which can potentially lead to life long heart complications. It was a very dirty experience. I had left my apple watch in one of my rooms and when I came back to pick it up the settings had been messed with, so had the wallpaper. Save your money and avoid staying at this hotel. Spend a little extra money and stay at TreeCasa resort instead. That place is amazing!

I reminds you that on the day of your check in , you contacted us for the cancellation because according to you it was impossible to travel due to a personal problem, but after half an hour you showed up at the hotel so is easy to assume that your original intention was to not stay with us; then For all the following days you threatened us if we don’t give you a refund otherwise you would give us a bad review, just like you are doing right now. Since we haven’t received any criticism of this issues that you say is logical to think that you made a mistake with us and change your mind about staying with us and because this booking was non-refundable I assume that this is the reason why you writes unfounded and false things, also because My receptionist manager talked with you and you tell her that you liked our hotel but your kids feel awkward in this culture and wanted a American style hotel. Also why the publicity of other place on my site? All about this is so wrong. Finally Sorry but a non-refund booking is just what it say, non refundable. Good day!
