How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The bathroom was a little small and you had to sit on the toilet sideways if you wanted to close the door but otherwise was fine!
Stayed here for two nights with my partner. It was our first stop in Nicaragua, having come from Costa Rica. Chales House was located right in town with easy access to the beach, supermarkets and restaurants. The staff were friendly and facilities clean. The shower was an electric shower and had plenty of pressure and hot water. Kitchen had a coffee machine with free coffee and was well equipped with what we needed to make breakfast. The AC worked well and kept us nice and cool at night. A little loud but no worries with earplugs

Everything, Friendly and attentive staff, fast internet, hot water, air cond clean and comfortable. They upgraded me to a larger room free of charge. I had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

This hotel is a great location, it is an easy walk to grocery stores, restaurants and the beach. The sunsets are gorgeous! The hotel has a really cute sitting patio upstairs to enjoy the warm weather and sunshine, and kitchen for preparing food if you want to. The staff are super friendly and helpful.

The only thing I could say is that because the windows go onto an internal courtyard, you kind of need to keep the curtains closed so there's not much natural light in the room. But it didn't really matter because of the nice outdoor sitting area.
Everything was very clean, the staff were so kind and helpful, and I felt very safe there (and in San Juan in general) as a solo female traveller. The AC was great and the drinking water provided in the rooms was really appreciated. It was very nice to have a kitchen and a little social sitting area that caught the breeze.

The accommodation starting from the staff, to the kitchen up to the rooms was impecable. The staff was really kind, the whole accommodation was amazingly clean, ESPECIALLY the kitchen was spotless. The shower had hot water.

I didn't have water until 7 pm and couldn't take a shower. The hotel didn't have internet. The toilet was a bit damaged and was wetting the floor
The staff were very nice and friendly. Very good location, Good price, Hot water and air conditioner. When I asked to change rooms because a problem in the toilet they quickly accepted

Staff was on their cell phones all the time, even during conversations. They could pay more attention to what their guests are saying.
I feel the staff could be a bit more informed about the bus system and alternative modes of travel for the client's next destination.

My room at the back smelled a bit damp. Not all rooms did. However the whole place was very clean and comfortable.

Bathroom was a bit small with knees knocking on the door, but overall excellent value for money.
Simple and comfortable, everything we needed and excellent value for money. Great to have someone available at the desk, the little seated area was nice, air con was good and room was comfortable!
