How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Verified reviewNigeria was a place I’d never been before. Despite what you see and hear on the news I made the leap of faith to visit for a friend’s birthday. My expectations were quickly let down. From checking in to the hotel immediately there were issues with the payment as I have a UK Bank account the transaction was pending and the receptionist at first was denying check in until we paid again despite the fact that the payment had left my account. After speaking to the manager we were given a room. The maintenance and up keep of the hotel is very poor. The photos you see on the website are far from a true reflection. Door handles broken, unfinished work to the room/hotel with marks and scratches on everything. For a 5 star hotel attention to detail and cleanliness is missed. Any 5 star hotels in Nigeria are easily the equivalent to 3 stars in the UK. For British holiday makers I would avoid Nigeria altogether and staying in this hotel. Safety is compromised hugely as the agenda to follow and attack women for because of their race is totally unacceptable. I had the night porter follow me to my room insisting to help me with my bag. The night porter put my bag down in the room and closed the door behind him with myself and the porter in the room I began to feel frightened as he asked me to sit on the bed. I proceeded and demanded for him to leave however he was standing in front of the door refusing to move. I eventually was able to pull the door open and after 5/6 times continuously asking to leave he finally did. I barricaded and locked myself in my room afterwards scared and fearful. My safety was truly compromised. I felt powerless which has given me severe anxiety attacks. This was an incident that happened with one porter but what makes me worry more is how often this must be happening on daily basis with tourists of a different race being targeted.

International card payments can sometimes delay, and we’ve since adjusted our process to improve communication and ensure that such incidents are managed with greater clarity and compassion. Regarding your concerns about facility maintenance, we acknowledge that some areas need improvement. Efforts are currently ongoing to enhance our room upkeep and guest experience quality. The Art Hotel is a proudly diverse space that welcomes guests from all backgrounds and nationalities. We do not take any allegation of racial targeting lightly. Maintenance issues esp lift. My friend was trapped in the lift for 30 minutes I felt there was not enough space for guests to relax outside of the hotel room. The pool area was very windy. The lobby area was often over crowded by weddings or conferences attendees.

1. The hotel is not well maintained and it's sad to see some parts not looking fresh at all, like the carpets which looked quite dirty. 2. There is also a lingering unpleasant smell in the corridors as well as when you walk into the room, which is quite off putting. 3. Finally, there is far too many half naked prostitutes walking around all day long !!

Verified reviewI arrived at the art hotel in VI Lagos. The reception wasn’t good- I stood there but no one attended to me. I went to sit and then I was attended to, I paid 601,705.58 naira for 2 nights, then I was taken to the room. When I got there I went over to the bedside to pick up the phone and dial reception, then COCKROACHES🪳🪳🪳started coming out from the bedside locker!!! I showed the staff who took me to my room, he took a picture - roaches in a 5 star hotel!!! I was as shcoked 😮😮😒🙈🙈 Then I decided to inspect the whole room, I found hair and streaks of dirt in the floor and chewing gum in the bathroom. I informed the staff I would not be staying there. We went back downstairs and the manager - Abdul came to speak with me to persuade me to stay and I refused. After about half an hour of persuasion, I insisted I would not stay, then he game me a refund form to fill and I did. I left the arts hotel shortly after filing the form but up till now I have not received a refund. Guys avoid this hotel at all cost, it’s a waste of time and there is no 5 star service here at all, avoid at all cost, you have been warned!!!
