Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomTony’s Guesthouse is the favourite place we have stayed during our travels around Asia. The vibe was perfect, really relaxed and chilled, and it could have everything we could possibly have needed - kitchen, utensils, coffee, washing machine etc. Tony even picked fruit from the garden for us all to try. Really good location too

New ZealandPower cuts do happen from time to time. There are insects around as well (mosquitoes, sandfly, and cockroaches). Make sure to keep the door closed and put something over the drainage when not used to prevent cockroach).
Tony and his team are so welcoming, organised, helpful, and supportive. Clear communication from the beginning on how to get there, how to check-in. When I arrived, Tony gave me a tour around the Guesthouse. There are free laundry (though, you can donate 2RM to support future use and maintenance), and free bicycle for rent. The Internet connection is good and stable, there are a few restaurants near by 3 minutes drive/scooter ride or 15 minutes walk.

United StatesVery quiet and relaxing place. Minny's sandwiches are great. Access to washing machine and bikes was super helpful and important. Easy to bike the closest beach. Close to bus stop to go everywhere in Penang. Ceiling fan is powerful and great. Internet is VERY GOOD. Wouldn't normally mention that, but internet has been very spotty elsewhere in Penang.

Such an amazing place, full of nature and good memories. Spotted some very nice wildlife around😊 Bicycle's for rent available, the renting price is super low, it's mostly like a donation to maintain the bikes 🚲 Thank you for your hospitality and good times!

BelgiumThere was not really a decent duvet. The electricity stopped working for a full evening, but this was not the fault of the host.
Perfect location in nature. The host was very kind and responsive, and the room was good enough for a short stay. They have a small selection of food that they make for a good price. The facilities like laundry and the communal area are great.

MalaysiaThe place itself is spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. You can tell that the owner puts a lot of effort into keeping everything in perfect condition. Speaking of the owner — they were incredibly friendly, responsive, and helpful throughout my stay. It really made a difference and made me feel at home.
Excellent Stay Near Escape Theme Park! I had a wonderful experience staying at this guesthouse. The location is super strategic — it's very close to Escape Theme Park, which was the highlight of my trip. One of the best parts was that the guesthouse provides bicycles that guests can borrow, making it really easy and fun to get to Escape.

United StatesNot all rooms have AC so you will need to pay extra for that
I stayed for two weeks and enjoyed my time here. The guesthouse is surrounded by nature and Tony is nice enough to share fruits from his garden including durian, rambutans, papaya, banana etc. Tony also gave me a ride to the bus station which takes you to the airport.

United StatesDoesn’t bother me much but neighbors sometimes burn their trash and occasional insects (this is common to the tropics and rural areas but some people may not be used to that if you’re not used to rural life in the tropics). There are birds in cages that sing during the day- I kind of liked hearing their different songs but it could be bothersome to some people but it wasn’t an issue for me just good to expect before you go. With that said, there are ups and downs wherever you go and Tony’s Guesthouse is a great deal for what is included in my opinion.
At first coming from the United States I was a little uncomfortable in such a different place than what I’m used to, but Tony made me feel right at home and welcome. He shared many fruits that he grew on the property which is the key to my heart. Tony is very polite, generous, and kind. I got to meet interesting people from all of over the world and learn about where they are from. I am a cat lover and enjoyed seeing the two chunky cats living their best lives there. I really liked being able to do laundry and rent a bicycle for only 2RM per day. Its proximity to the national park and beach is ideal for nature lovers. I felt very safe here as a solo female traveler. I want to come back someday!! If you get the chance, go eat a durian at hidden beach for sunset. It’s a gorgeous quiet beach close to town. If you love hiking you have to go to Penang National Park and hike about 4 miles from the entrance across the park to Turtle Beach. It was an amazing 8 mile hike being surrounded by trees and hearing all the peaceful sounds of nature.
