How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Exceptional value for money. Very clean modern rooms and bathrooms. A very clean and organised communal kitchen. Very friendly owner. Felt secure and safe. Far exceeded our expectations.

No lift, located at 3rd floor. But no worries, William will help u with ur luggages.
William is a super host, he is friendly, informative and helpful. I saw this hostel is incredibly high score which I cannot believe it, but when u stay u will know it definitely deserves the compliments and high score. Wishing William booming business!

There are many stairs up to reception so was difficult with my suitcase, however William is happy to help you if you let him know. The gated door at street level does stick (others have mentioned this). It is OK when you work out that it needs a hard shove.
I really liked this hostel. William the owner is so kind and friendly and will do anything to help you. A very interesting guy when you chat to him. The room was comfortable, good shower, the kitchen is very well equipped for those who want to make their own food, free coffee, cold water, bread, a useful area for drying clothes plus a washing machine (which I didn't use). From this terrace you can see the sea and amazing sunsets. There were also complimentary local biscuits available. Everywhere is walking distance. The bus station is barely 2 mins away. I would happily stay here again.

Nothing, it is great value for money and you leave this place happier than when you arrive
Everything. Cozy place with free coffee and snacks. Free washing machine. Great view on the sea. And the most important: a really warm welcome and the owner, William, really makes you feel like part of the family. We had an amazing stay here. William is the best host you can think of. Very professional and fast when it comes to booking tours or diving sessions. But also always in for a good talk, good time, party, he really becomes a friend since the 1st day. The rooms are very clean and the place really has an appropriate name « the nest », it is how you feel staying here. I highly recommend this place for every kind of stay.

The location was great, easy to get around! The owner was very welcoming and hospitable, during our stay we had a great time there! We also had the pleasure meeting other guests, lovely people!! Staying in this place was the highlight of our trip

This one of my best stays in Borneo. There was a slight musty smell when I first same in to the bedroom but I didn’t notice it after the first time.
Spacious room, clean and light. Air conditioned and well laid out. Big kitchen area where you could cook or socialise with other guests and the host. Very friendly helpful host. Facilities to do washing.

Everything was great, the owner is very kind and helpful, we arrived early morning still we could check in. The flat is in the center also not far from the port (10 mins by walk). The apartment is clean and nice, we will stay here again if we come to Semporna again.

The entrance is on a dark street that, at first, felt a bit sketchy as a solo female traveler. But the vibe completely changed to warm and pleasant once I was inside and upstairs in the Nest.
Very kind and helpful owner and staff. Amenities like coffee and noodles in the common room. The rooms were modern and clean and of decent size. It was perfect for my 1 night in Samporna.

The only downside was that the street could be a bit noisy at times — on some evenings there was karaoke nearby that was quite loud — and the street itself wasn’t the most charming. But from what we saw, this is quite typical of Semporna in general.
We had a great stay! The host was extremely kind and attentive — truly one of the most hospitable people we’ve met during our trip. He was always checking in to make sure everything was okay and ready to help with anything we needed. The room was very clean and comfortable, with everything we needed for a good rest.

We used the owners hot spot instead of a WiFi connection
Staff were absolutely lovely and the bathroom was probably one of the best bathrooms we found in Borneo
