Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyBe aware that there can be a lot of day turists around, but it’s really well organised and the staff takes a lot of attention that the hotel facilities are not used by them. Staying in the hillside villa you didn’t really see the day turists. Unfortunately some turists are ignorant and leave their rubbish around, the staff is trying their best to remove it and keep the island clean.
It’s a beautiful location! The Hillside Villa was absolutely fabulous. The bed soooo comfortable and the pillows great. We slept in heaven 🥰 The private beach of the hotel was close to our Villa. And we had a lovely view over the waterfront. The food in the restaurant was really good. We loved the live music aswell. We enjoyed to watch the Monitor lizards passing by the Villa. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The transfer was really well organised aswell as everything else from the hotel. All in all we had an amazing stay and would have loved to stay longer! Thank you!

United KingdomSometimes, the service was slow. We had to wait an hour for our bags to be delivered, even though we were willing to take them ourselves. The food descriptions needed a little more detail, and the menu was limited. The jetty was very busy
The location and villa were both stunning. Snorkelling off the beach was excellent. The lunch menu was very good. Our hillside villa was incredible.

DenmarkNever found something we didn’t ❤️
Manukan Island i extremely beautiful, and they are doing a great job to take care of the corals, and the safety of people. Our Lodge were clean and nice, and service worked absolutely perfect. We had our 25th anniversary and they celebrated us with surprise breakfast on the waterfront ❤️🌺 My husband got ill some days before we arrived, and when it got worse the resort manager Eva followed us to hospital and stayed the hole day, and called friends so we had a new hotel five minutes from the hospital. She was so unbelievable helpful and caring. 😍❤️ All staff was helpful, one took our luggage by his own car so it was easy when we were under distress. All in all an excellent help and support.

United KingdomThere is a constant stream of boat bringing day trippers to the island. Many come for snorkelling but also lots for Instagram pictures, which is entertaining in itself to watch. There is a separate beach for paying guests however many of the day trippers also use this. Quite a bit of litter in the sea/beach but we collected what we could each time we went for a swim and left it on the beach….the staff then collect each night.
Beautiful setting on island resort. Perfect way to start our trip in Borneo. Comfortable villa by the beach, delicious food in restaurant and very friendly staff

United KingdomAmazing location, lovely room. Unfortunately it's sold as having a beach for guests only, this isn't the case. The island is flooded with tourists on day trips, they spill out onto the private beach in search of the perfect insta photo. The resort needs to do more to keep this a private beach instead of a half arsed attempt

United KingdomBeach was chaos regarding the security and the beds, flagging system rubbish for guests accomodation. Staff sit on their backsides whilst the guests fish rubbish from the sea, lots of plastic and bottles. Bins are full on the beach and not emptied. Beer price and happy hour non existent, £7 approx half lager. Only choice of ,2 lagers despite extensive list on bar. Only one restaurant which was outdoors and when the weather was windy and rainy, no shelter. Plus it is where visitors to the island go for lunch and guests, the cushions are not changed between lunchtime and evening, not worth getting dressed up for. Second restaurant (indoors) is being renovated. No turn down service during all of the stay. Stairs to hillside rooms precarious, especially when wet. No facilities for a late check out, no courtesy room, you have to use the public shower etc. no consideration for guests with long journeys home, very, very poor.
Room lovely. Food ok, would have preferred more choice for dinner

United StatesWorth every cent! The boat to the island was easy to find and before you even step off the boat a member of the hotel staff greets you, takes your luggage and shows you to the check in. It’s a very smooth process. The beach is nicer and the day tripper’s phot shots add to the ambiance. The giant monitor lizard is cool too.

United KingdomThere’re local as well as tourist came for day trip so the half of beach can be crowded so enforcement needs to be in place to ask them not to use guests residents sun lounge in the beach. Fortunately they leave by 4 pm so it was quiet and peaceful afterward.
The surrounding was very relax and pleasant! The villa was nice and very comfortable and well decorated

United KingdomWe noticed quite late in the night that our balcony door is broken and doesn’t close however we told the staff in the morning and they came to fix it almost immediately. The staff goes home for the night so we should have checked earlier.
Absolutely amazing accommodation on an island! The hillside villa we stayed in was stunning and with access to a private beach. It was honestly a dream. There is a filtered water sink on the property as well as a restaurant with DELICIOUS food - I really recommend the fried rice cause wow - and the staff are so so friendly. Grace was an absolute star!

United KingdomNothing, we loved it all. Very surprised at negative reviews as we had nothing to complain about.
Excellent! We stayed in a Beach suite king. It was spacious, beautifully decorated with balcony. It was clean and the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a good stay. Shout out to Grace who was lovely and so helpful. The pool, weights gym and beach were just for residents and day trippers were just on the public beach. It was very well organised, the beach was cleaned of any plastic washed up. The sunset walk was on a path to the other side of the island snd was guided. Beautiful sunset!

SwitzerlandThe snorkeling trip they could organize was unbelievably expensive: 300 ringgit for snorkel and fins and a 10 minute boat ride to the next island, they could do something about that.
A nice beach, calm water. Lots of day visitors, just makes it interesting. There's a monitor lizard that strolls through the beach in the morning. There's no real snorkeling there. Loved the restaurant, spend a lot of time just sitting there watching the day and evening go by. Quick trip from Kota Kinabalu.

United KingdomThe beach was messy when the wind was in the wrong direction. I chatted to a staff member who told me the rubbish comes in from the floating village on Gaya Island. HOWEVER the rubbish is quickly collected but staff each morning.
Very friendly helpful staff. Lovely hotel right on the beach. Eco friendly but everything has been thought of, still plenty of hot water, refillable drinking water. Nothing was too much trouble. Snorkeling was great, but go when the tide is high to preserve the reef.

United StatesThere is no real snorkeling! The small size of the beach. Beach & the whole island should be cleaner! Unfortunately there was lots of rubbish. The pathway to the Sunset View point should be repaired.
The view from the room, which was huge albeit decorated in bad taste. The peacefulness of the island in the evening.
