Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaFred and SP are great hosts. They picked us up, cooked delicious meals for us and their overall hospitality is unbeatable. Talking to them at dinner felt like having dinner with friends. The accommodation is clean and has everything you need (ventilation, big bathroom, free water, hammocks, etc.). The beach in front of the accommodation is breathtaking and good for snorkling. Overall the best place we have been to in Borneo!

NetherlandsWe had such a wonderful stay at Fred and Sook’s ecolodge. They have build there ecolodge with care and keep it small scaled. They were wonderful hosts, with love for the environment and most of all: Sook is a wonderful cook and every meal was a feast. Even whith rain and wind it was still a tropical paradise. Perfect place to relax, snorkeling and canoeing. The coral reef is just a few meters from the beach and you can spot al kinds of small fishes. Thank you so much Fred and Sook, keep up the great work and we can’t wait for the Sook’s Cook Book! 😄

PolandIt was pretty expensive for what it is. The WiFi doesn’t work too well. But we are in the little island, far away from the main land so it is all understandable. There is no shops or restaurants around so you may want to bring some snacks.
Very nice place. We paid for an upgraded for the bungalow on the beach and it was very good idea. The island is incredible and beautiful but if you are coming for snorkeling/diving there is not much to see in the water. The reef is pretty much dead and there is a lot of trash around. The food isn’t cheap but it’s really tasty, so I recommend to get dinner at the place! :)

The sustainable design and use of natural materials created a truly immersive experience in nature. The room was cozy and well-equipped. The food was a highlight of our trip. The Vietnamese coffee and fresh coconut were particularly delicious, and the entire menu showcased the freshest local ingredients very well mixed togheter. BelgiumWe would loved to book more nights but reservation is limited.
We had a fantastic time on Mantanani Island. Superb location, right on the beach, no other hotels in the area. We were spoiled by Fred's wife (owner) who is in charge of the food. As vegetarians, we could not find a better place! No other restaurants in the area tough. Kayaks and snorkeling gear available, which we recommend. Nice walk to the nearby village too. Swimming in the sea here is very nice, no strong currents. Transfer is well arranged. Pick up (early!) in your hotel in KK, boat is waiting to bring you to the island and visa versa.

NetherlandsLocation is unmatched! Truly beautifull. Food was amazing too. Hosts are super friendly and nice. It was one of our more expensive stays in Borneo (also because of the boat and taxi transfer that will add up) but I have to say we loved it. Took the kano's to the broccoli and had a amazing day.

AustraliaThe coral isn't the best I've seen but I do live on the barrier reef so I'm spoiled but it is a very idyllic setting for a few days of relaxation.
We had a wonderful time at Greenhouse Eco lodge. It is a lovely small lodge where you arrive as strangers and leave as friends. Sook Peng is so beautiful she has the most amazing energy and most importantly is a wonderful cook. Fred is also a very accommodating host. Chopping coconuts for us!! Lovely setting on a beautiful tropical island.

LatviaEverything was just great! 👍👍👍👍
I liked everything! The atmosphere is quite and relaxing. You feel as in the family, and a very accepting family! Everything you need is provided for you; Fred and Espi really make your life comfortable. In addition, the wonderful nature around, and you can get kayaks to go to the nearest island to make snorkeling and to see corals and colorful fishes... If you need a rest after the long working year, it is the best place you can choose. No noise, no transport, no crowds, the view of ocean, a very clean beach near the stay. We had a walk around the island, and the best and cleanest beach was near our stay. The food that the owners provide was delicious, everything was home-made, including the bread that I couldn't stop to eat it. I have a food allergy, and Espi cooked for me individually so that I could eat without worrying about it. It is the place that I would like to return there each year! I just want to thank Fred and Espi, his wife, for this wonderful time!

ThailandWe liked everything.
The host cleans the beach every single morning so that guests can enjoy its white sands with no logs or residual plants. The food is amazing - home-cooked, fusion-like. From your room, you walk for 1 minute and you are already swimming in pristine waters.

United KingdomAmazing experience! Probably the most unique and beautiful places I have ever had the fortune to stay. Silk sand and crystal clear water! Sook Peng and Fred are wonderful and kind hosts who help to ensure a brilliant stay. They help to organize all the travel arrangements from your lodgings in Kota Kinabalu to the island via car and boat, and it all worked seamlessly. The food that Sook Peng cooked was simply fantastic and some of the best I have had during my whole trip. The lodge is very unique and they take their environmental responsibility very seriously. Staying on the island is a once in a lifetime experience. It’s completely deserted apart from a small village and there are lots of different activities one can do. (Kayak, snorkel, diving, guided walks). We did bonfires at night and spent the days in hammocks just meters from the beach as the local island cows wandered past.

GermanyThe waste mountains all over the island are terrible. Snorkeling at the island is very poor compared to other places in Borneo.
Great place direct on the beach. Owner keeps the at the lodge clean, the rest of the island is a desaster. Plastic and other garbage everywhere. A lot of hammocks and deck chairs etc at the beach. Super tasty lunch and dinner.

United KingdomThe lodge is fantastic, and the immediate beach is clean ,but unfortunately due to no organised waste management on the island there is a lot of rubbish on other beaches if you walk around the island. This needs major community action to resolve I think and hope that as the other resorts come back to life post covid they put money in to help fix this as it’s on their doorstep As a solo traveller could have done without being told I should bring someone back next time! Well intentioned but seems you can’t escape societal expectations and norms even on a paradise island! 🏝️ 🫤
Built from scratch with sustainability in mind. Absolutely incredible food (including for vegetarians! Thanks SP!) Hammocks on the beach and ability to hire snorkel gear and kayak to go to some incredible snorkelling spots Fred and SP are excellent hosts

Hong KongThe best stay I’ve had in years! 🏝️This is truly a relaxing Island experience and an opportunity for you to unwind in a secluded location. Thank you Sook Peng and Fred for helping my stay feels like home! They have arranged the transfer quite seamlessly, I got picked up from the hotel early morning to the pier and then to the island. The view is truly amazing as the lodge is right in front of the sea. They have everything you need for this Island: kayaks, snorkel masks, beach mats and coconuts (and beer which is a rare commodity in the island)! Thank you Sook Peng for the wonderful breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s wonderful to enjoy a hearty home-cooked meal by the sea. I also get to taste some delicious farm-to-table vegetables they’ve grown from their aquaponics farm ♥️ I’ve enjoyed my time on the island, there’s a dive centre 5-min walk from the lodge and it’s convenient if you’d like to join a dive or two. My room is right in front of the sea with a little garden, sun lounge area and a private entrance to the beach. You’re surrounded by nature and animals, I’ve seen cats, cows, tree frogs, big green turtles and more. Just be prepared for mosquitos at night, you can spray the room before you leave for dinner, I’ve also bought a “Deep Woods” repellent and some repellent wristbands which comes in quite handy. There’s no aircon in the room but the island breeze does help, the room is well-ventilated and there’s a fan and cooling machine in the room. Truly an amazing getaway, I must come back again!
