How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNice rooms with ocean views but we paid more for that. Wanted rooms close together but seemed to be the more expensive rooms that were closer. Clean, quiet, nice interior courtyard with numerous plants and trees. Walking distance to everything.
Needed a bar fridge to keep things cold in the room. No ice. No coffee machines in the rooms. Complimentary breakfast was toast and cold coffee. Wi-Fi was a problem could only get it by the check in desk.
Good afternoon Mr. Ratz, thank you for your quick visit, you reserved 2 rooms, 1 standard and 1 junior with an ocean view, clearly they have different prices and they are not close, in the email you sent us you wanted the 2 rooms close by and we replied that the rooms that are close must be of the same level and clearly the change from 1 standard room to 1 junior room generates an extra cost since the junior is larger with a king bed and ocean view, your reservation was for 3 people and in the end there were 4 and we did not charge you for the 4 people and you did not tell us either that there was one more person, at the time of booking on the page it is specified what each room has and I think you did not take the time to read the amenities of each room, none of the accounts have a fridge or coffee maker, as you say the small breakfast is complimentary and the coffee surely got cold in your cup, due to wifi you possibly had it poorly connected on your equipment since we have a very fast wifi And we are one of the few hotels to have fiber optics, if you had mentioned it at reception we would surely have solved it, thank you very much for your visit and best regards

Verified reviewReception area and that was in the front of the beach.
The bill at the restaurant was 2000 pesos and our tip was 170 pesos, the waiter complained about the amount of the tip saying the people usually give 15% of the bill. He was rude.
Irina: Thank you for your visit, serving you was a pleasure, although it was a short visit. Having shared your feelings in time was important, we know that tipping is an act of generosity and in certain tourist areas of the world there are more common practices. We genuinely apologize for this attitude and hope you continue to have a great trip. Suzette-Mgr on Duty

Verified reviewI booked a spacious comfortable room with a great view of the ocean (Junior suite). The hotel itself is located just outside the bubble of cruise ship crowds, so much less busy than otherwise could be. The staff were amazing, and always very helpful, even with knowing minimal Spanish (Thanks Suzette!). I was able to book an amazing personal solo excursion through the hotel to see Lake Bacalar and Chacchoben ruins, highly recommended! Great Italian restaurant as well, for breakfast and dinner, delicious.
All was good
Christopher, We are thrilled to read a GREAT story, our team give their best to listen to you and offer tailored options. We appreciate your comments, cause is the best way we keep exclusive vendors. Thank you for your visit, we feel so content that you discover a bit more of Mexico and yourself! Cheers! Mgr on Duty

Verified reviewIf you want a secluded place but relatively close to the main restaurants and activities, then location is great. 5-7min bike ride or 15-20min from city center. The facility is also clean. My room (#19) was at the top floor and in front of the beach (great views); however, not all rooms are like that. There are many rooms at the back of the hotel. There is an okay restaurant in the hotel; not the best food in town. Had dinner there more out of convenience, not because the food or service were great.
The beach in front of the hotel is not the best. I preferred to rent a bike and go downtown for cleaner beach (they better clean the seawater). Many items were listed in the breakfast menu, but not available: some fruits, yougurt, etc. Additionally, I didn't like the service of one of the owners: the one in the bar. Conveniently on Saturday night, he said the hotel was not accepting credit cards. No signs anywhere to alert the customers. Even though I was a hotel guest, he "suggested" that I walk 10min at night to withdraw money on an ATM! When I refused and complained saying there were no signs of "no credit card today" nor the waitress said anything, he relunctedly charged my room...and came with the machine the very next dinner. My desire was to not eat there any longer, but walking to town at night was not appealing. Overall, he was not the most friendly.
William: Thank you for telling your story, it can always inspire other people. Cleaning sea water is everyone's task with our daily decisions. That is why we use 99% biodegradable cleaning products for your health and that of the sea. We know that each person has unique tastes, so the opportunity to discover a style of accommodation and Mahahual in one walk is fantastic! Choosing between one beach or another... is what maintains the genuine spirit of the trip, leaving your known area and exploring. I hope you have returned home revitalized. Suzette-Mgr on Duty

Verified reviewRight on the beach with nice lounge chairs. I loved that it was a few minutes outside the main strip of beach clubs with all you can drink for the tourists pouring off the cruise ships at the other end. Rooms very clean and nice. I also love that breakfast is included... Talk to the people next door about renting bikes! They are very nice and willing to negotiate.
I find it bizarre that with all of Mahahual TOTALLY EMPTY -- I was the only one in the hotel for a full week. Only a few scattered other guests for a night or 2 -- they REFUSED to negotiate and give me a cheaper price or a slight upgraded room! Maybe they are just worker bees, and indeed I heard that the Italian owners want to give it a posh vibe, but I find that to be very bad business indeed. In the end, I paid a bit more for my room with a beach view and view of the mangroves. Well worth it!
Mary: What a pleasure to read you after so long! I'm glad you remember nice details and the benefits granted. Indeed, our style is in the exclusivity of open space, in serenity for each person. We believe that each place adds its own style and some will perceive it as elegant, others cozy and we are always happy to serve you and give the best...although we understand that there are different tastes. Happy new year...after seeing you before Christmas!

Verified reviewLocation was great, a little bit away from the center, nice, quiet and peaceful. I rented a bike in order to go around faster. The hotel was beautiful, I had the junior suite with beach views, massive balcony with sun beds and a hammock. The bed is very comfy and clean room in general.the service was very nice. Suzette at the front desk is always helpful and available for a chat. This was my favorite stay during my vacation. I highly recommend it.

Verified reviewThis hotel is like a fairy tale. We came in december so it was decorated for christmas and it was gorgeous. But the actual wooden structures of the building and the inner courtyard are so charming. They offer free breakfast, which you have a choice from within their main menu. Or you can upgrade if preferred Free unlimited drinking water Accross the road from the hotel is the beach. There is a hotel area in the beach with sunbeds etc which are lovely. The staff were incredible. Suzette was so attentive and honestly such a nice lady. She couldnt do enough for us. The bedroom is very comfortable
The hotel is a little walk away from the main restaurants and bars but this is not a problem as long as youre prepared to walk a little. It will probably be good on the cruise ship days as it will offer more peace.
