Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUnfortunately the pool was closed for maintenance which was a real shame. Lighting in the room could be improved with a stronger reading light above the bed.
Fabulous view from our chalet and nicely landscaped gardens and secluded beach area with swing seat to relax on. The fridge and coffee making facility in the chalet was much appreciated.

South AfricaA consideration to have a bigger fridge in the family unit and maybe a shelf or closet for clothes.
Quietness, proximity to the lake. For 2 Star rated, it exceeded my expectations. Staff members are very friendly and helpful.

United StatesThe bar was not stocked very well. They couldn't make many cocktails because of not having the ingredients. It would have been nice to have more choices for a tropical cocktail.
The scenery was amazing, and the staff was very friendly. I loved the chalet. It was comfortable and had everything that I needed. The grounds were well kept.

United KingdomI was there in summer (September) when it was hot, and the chalet was very stuffy as it doesn't have much ventilation. But I slept on the upper floor with the ceiling fan and it was OK. Then a monkey stole the toothpaste from my bathroom(!) - they need locked cabinets in the bathroom, or a sign telling you not to leave anything out because of the monkeys. Finally, and this isn't the hotel's fault, but the fishing village next to the hotel plays loud music almost all day everyday, so it wasn't as peaceful as I expected.
Beautiful natural surroundings and view of the lake. Nice to be able to hike up into the hills from the hotel. The chalet felt very private and I enjoyed the view from the balcony. Staff were super friendly. Food was pretty good and priced according to what you'd expect from a hotel/resort.

United KingdomFood in the restaurant is quite expensive compared to other places I have stayed but was very tasty. Location is lovely but is quite isolated without a car, though there are trips available through the hotel if you choose.
Very peaceful. I stayed in a hut overlooking the lake. Comfortable room. Very clean. Nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room. Lovely pool area and beach by the lake. Great cooked breakfast included in the price.

IcelandWe loved our stay, the only thing would be that there was quite a wide crack on the balcony door of our cabin that let some unwelcomed insects in, I told the manager about it and I’m sure it has been fixed :)
Amazing location, in the woods just above the beach. Beautiful surroundings with very funny monkeys that pay occational visit (they have a guard to control them at all times, so they behave very well when they get into the area). Very friendly staff, good food and a relaxing atmosphere :) Wifi available upon request, but like anywhere else it’s not completely reliable, but more so then in many other places :)

South AfricaPlease put mosquito repellent in the room, or offer it to the guests as they arrive. Please make sure all guests are aware that you can provide a short distance shuttle service and a long distance shuttle service to the airport. It would be good to occasionally clean out the underside of the roof of the thatched gazebos in the garden. Other than that, everything was perfect.
The views from the room, balcony, platform bar and beach are all exceptional. The food was delicious. The bed was comfortable. Even though the rooms are quite basic (2-star), all one needs is there. The views here are just as good or better than at a 4-star hotel. Beautiful, well-maintained garden. I found it worthwhile to have basic accommodation, with excellent surroundings and service. Thanks to Janina and her staff.

United KingdomSoooo overpriced. Was expecting more for the price in Malawi. We checked into the room we had booked. After dark 2 staff members appeared to say there was a misunderstanding and we had to move rooms. The rooms are situated up steep stairs on rocky outcrops. We said we would look at the other room in the morning. They were not happy. We were in a family room with en-suite, clearly stated in our booking. The room we unfortunately agreed to move into as there was a party of 11! who needed our room, was filthy and the shower and toilet were outside. The monkeys share this and the shower floor was covered in monkey droppings. The beds in both units were really bad. You could feel the wooden slats through the mattresses. The kettles supplied have 2 pin plugs all sockets were 3 pin square plugs. I’m sure this hotel would have been beautiful about 40 years ago.
Ruth. Who appeared to be embarrassed by the situation and tried to fix it with a bottle of wine. This gesture was cancelled by trying to charge us for a Malibu….not ordered by us.

United KingdomI came to Safari Beach Lodge as a solo female traveller looking for peace and relaxation, and I left feeling completely rejuvinated, The lodge overooks Lake Malawi, with the most breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunset. You are surrounded by plants and trees, and can walk down to a small beach that serves as a lovely spot to sit and read, look out over the lake, and go for a swim. My room was large, with an extremely comfortable bed and hot water in the shower. The restaurant staff were very accommodating and friendly, and I enjoyed eating all my meals outdoors. The lodge staff helped me arrange airport transportation, a kayak to take out onto the lake, and a guided hike up the hills just behind the lodge. I especially enjoyed watching the monkeys playing together around the lodge premises. There is also a larger beach a short walk from the lodge, which is beautiful. I had a wonderful stay at Safari Beach Lodge, and can't recommend it enough!
