Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandBreakfast wasn't quite what it was advertised as. But having stayed in Malawi for 7 weeks I understand how challenging it is for hotels to provide. Just need to say it from the start. Probably expensive for what it was.
Very pretty hotel and lovely garden. Staff were great.

United StatesWhen the power went out after dark, it would be nice to have a battery light for walking back and forth to reception and to the parts of the suite without generator power, like the bathroom. In the suite with a second floor bedroom, it would be nice to have a second fan. The airport shuttle was very expensive.
The staff were excellent and very helpful, especially Joseph, in the restaurant.

NetherlandsWhen there are power cuts there's a generator to provide light but unfortunately there's not enough waterpressure for the shower.
Africa House is very conveniently located just off the main road leading to the airport. It's very quiet and they have ample parking space. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. I skipped breakfast as I left very early but I did have dinner which was fine.

United KingdomThe water in swimming pool was on very green on some days, it was a small pool, but one person could swim up and down the length of it.
The calm and green environment and relatively few rooms (i.e., guests) made it a very pleasant place to stay and have meetings wih colleagues on the terrase.

United KingdomThe rooms (not just mine) have very limited natural lighting (no direct sunlight comes in). Because of this, my room was not only dark but also quite damp (triggered my rhinitis). The breakfast – and the food in general – was also quite poor. Cleaning could also be much better (both in the room and external grads, including the pool).
Staff is absolutely lovely and external areas are pleasant.

United StatesI stayed at Africa House a couple of years ago, and my memory from then sort of exceeded the reality on the ground this time. Unfortunately, my bathroom had a hard-to-ignore odor when I arrived. I didn't manage to get on the free wifi at any point during the stay, had to use my hotspot. A couple of rugs on the cement floors in the rooms would help with keeping feet warm and clean from (normal levels of) dust. Also, having staff at the front desk after 4 PM would be so helpful. There are a lot of things that can pop up after 4pm that require the help of a staff person. At least a note to say where to find some assistance after 4pm would be great. The staff were really welcoming, I just couldn't find them when I needed to. Also, hot tip: I would recommend booking directly with the lodge. I had to change from four days to three days and booking.com had already charged me for four days, so no change possible/no refund could be given. But I think if I had booked with the lodge directly, they may have been more flexible.
Location excellent, especially for easy airport access and access to other meeting hotels and restaurants/bars. Price is great. Bed was very comfy and shower was hot with great pressure. I also like the gym access - nothing fancy but definitely enough for me for 3 days.
