How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAll hotels and guest houses are near to beach , nothing special .
Price is very high compared to other hotels same place, and others provide more services with less price . Breakfast is not good at all . Set with very limited choices.
Thank you for this review. We will use it to explain to others things that are fundamental for us. First of all, we are a small guest house all on one floor with 4 rooms, not a 6-story hotel. In the rooms we do not provide toothbrushes and toothpaste, slippers, we do not have a television and our breakfast is not a buffet like all the guest houses on the island. Our breakfast is served on the beach under tropical palms, not in an air-conditioned room. We serve a different homemade cake every day (chocolate, banana, orange, coconut, pancakes) plus in the same breakfast toast, 3 types of jam, Nutella, dark chocolate, butter, fruit juice, tea, Italian coffee with moka, milk, cereals, chocolate biscuits, eggs (scrambled, omelette, cheese omelette, sunset) fruits. We provide beach towels, shower towels and face towels and we have a hair dryer in every room. We have a room cleaning service every day. About your Booking , You have been to Thulusdhoo every day in a different structure from ours. You arrived on June 11th at 5:30 pm and left on July 12th at 10:30 am. The night before, in the structure next to us, you saw our garden, rooms and prices. You decide to book by platform and You paid €45 per person including 16% tax, $12 tourist tax and 15% booking fee. High price for a beach house facing the sea in the Maldives? The hotel next to us is much more expensive, you just found a deal, the guest house where you went the next day (it belongs to my friends) you paid much more. Having said that, I advise everyone to choose carefully between 50-room hotels and family-run guest houses because they are not the same thing. I understand that our garden is larger than that of a hotel and it can be misleading. Thank you

Hy thank you for reviewing kahanbu with a positive review! Regarding the cleanliness rating this leaves us perplexed given our renowned room cleaning and daily room cleaning. being a family made up of 4 adults divided into two rooms, perhaps the review was not made by the same person who communicated to us as soon as you arrived "it is not necessary to clean the room every day we stay only 4 days we do it alone". on the second day, however, the rooms were cleaned on our initiative. We thank you anyway for your generally positive review despite unintentionally a 9 which seems like a high grade goes to lower our average of 9.6 therefore going to damage our vote. I use this answer for future customers using you have had a good time in a place know that giving a high rating but not like the average will damage the structure so if you have been good and recommend the place remember to leave a vote equal to what is already there. we often find ourselves (also knowing that the guests had a good time and want to come back) a vote that lowers the average on a positive review as in this case. Thanks for the attention Kahanbu staff

Verified reviewWe loved our stay in Kahanbu Ocean View. It is a small guest house with only 4 rooms (two "ocean view" with garden/beach access and two inner rooms with windows to the corridor with reception). We had the ocean view room and most of our stay we were the only guests at the house enjoying the privacy and the great service. The room has direct access to the garden with sand, palms trees, hammocks. The garden ends at a very nice bikini beach with private sun beds for Kahanbu guests only. In from of the room is an outdoor shower and an outdoor toilette, which you can use when you are wet and dirty from sand from the beach - great! You have breakfast (including italian coffee) in the garden/beach in perfect shadow with the possibility to see dolphins from the beach. You can also order lunch or dinner (even private barbecue) with the guest house which is very tasty and also served there. Very romantic! Rashdu (receptionist and the cook) was amazing, helping us with any needs we had. He was very helpful, kind and flexible! Thank you, you made our holiday! There are hotels and other guest house when you walk the beach from Kahanbu, where you can also eat or have smoothie/mocktail/fresh coconut. Kahanbu has really a great position! The guest house can also organise a trip for you, although we did not use it for being unlucky with the weather and for having 2-years old daugher with us :). The island itself is very good choice, I think, the locals are very friendly and you really feel welcomed there. It was great to be there and I would like to go back immediately :).
It would be great to have a bigger bed (our double bed was 140cm wide I think and we slept with our daughter on it). It would be also nice if somebody would clean the beach (not only the garden) from rocks and water plants; however, I understand that it could be difficult to ensure this for a small guest house. It is good to mention that the standard (not ocean view rooms) have windows facing the corridor/reception only (inner rooms), so you have limited privacy; somebody can be OK with it, it is just to mention so that you know about it and choose the room, which you prefer. Otherwise, I loved it all!
Dear Andrea thanks for reviewing kahanbu, for us it is always an opportunity to improve. Thank you for the all nice you wrote . it would be great if instead of booking for two I had booked for three or at least had warned us through the messaging so we would have given you the sea view room with king size bed. To inform the reader sometimes it is enough to ask rather for a better holiday than review only at final of the holiday Thank you for understanding that it is not the guest house's responsibility to clean all the island and the ocean from plastic but the council of the island Regarding the limited privacy of the standard rooms we remind you that just as there can be a guest on the sofa in front of the window of the standard room, you can have the other guests of the guest house in the hammocks in front of the garden window with a sea view this is because you are renting a room in a house and not a whole house so more than lack of privacy I would speak of sharing a house. even breakfast is served all together at the same table this is the concept that distinguishes a guets house from a hotel and also the reason why you don’t pay like a resort. Thank you Kahanbu Maldives

Verified reviewI can’t recommend Kahanbu enough. Beautiful small guest house. 100m from the crowded tourist scene but a whole world away with its own quiet, beautiful beach, relaxed vibe and calm, stunning gardens. Perfect for snorkelling, swimming and perfect view on the surf at Chickens. Giulia was the perfect host and made us feel like part of the family.
We had to leave and go home.
Thank you guys for the review We spend a nice time with you Hope to see you again Kahanbu family 🤗

Verified reviewAbsolutely loved staying at Kahanbu in Thulusdhoo! We stayed for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon and we did not want to leave. Guilia, Chika and Raju are the kindest people you’ll ever meet, they took us in as their own. And Jasmine is the cutest. Chika took us to a sandbank which we had to ourselves and we also all went to Asdhoo for the day. A beautiful deserted island with great snorkelling and we had fish for lunch that Chika caught! Chika also knew the best times for surfing and the best breaks, he took my husband out everyday for a surf. The fact that there are only 4 rooms means it will never be busy, pretty much a private bikini beach in front of you and you will be truly spoilt by the staff. We loved hanging in the hammock, having breakfast whilst watching the ocean or chatting over dinner. Raju cooked amazing food and always had a smile on his face. We were so glad we booked here and not one of the generic hotels. You won’t regret staying here!
Hy Isabel thank you to spend a time to review Kahanbu Ocean View. We have a great time together and you are lovely couple. Hope to see you soon A big hug from Maldives to Australia 🤗 from all of us Kahanbu family
