How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewMy now fiance and I stayed at Joy Island in April and had an amazing stay. The island is like walking into a picture, it is even better than advertised! We stayed in a lagoon villa and loved it, being able to swim out into fantastic snorkelling spots and watch marine life from our balcony. Our island host, Maral was the best, sorted out all our requests quickly. Maral helped me plan a dream engagement for my fiance and I on the beach that went exactly to plan. A special shoutout to the island manager who is very friendly and is checking in with guests every day, the watersports team for making all our activities super fun and feel worth it. Also to the chefs in the market, especially to the pasta station team who we loved to see every day. Would recommend Joy Island to anyone looking to head to the Maldives.

It didn’t feel like I was in the Maldives for some reason.. the AC in the room made us sick it is a split AC unit .. overall the resort seemed 4-3 starts and not 5 stars

Verified reviewAn absolutely heavenly place to relax! We spent our honeymoon here and everything was very nice. Above all, the staff are always friendly and courteous. The evening program was also very good and entertaining. We were only there for a week, but would have loved to stay another week!
What we didn't like were the additional charges for certain food and drinks. We didn't mind the drinks, but we would have expected seafood (not just fish) to be offered for dinner (at no extra charge). Otherwise, the food was top quality and we have no complaints apart from the lizards that kept crawling into the room because the bathroom is not fully enclosed. It's nice to shower half outside, but as there are really many lizards that keep coming into the room and robbing us of our sleep, we will make sure in future that the bathroom is really completely closed and nothing can crawl in. But you have to expect that on an island in the sea.

Verified reviewThe staff was SO KIND. I was also shocked with how great the food was. Hassan, our host, took care of all of our needs. I am so picky with food and everything was delicious daily. All the staff cared to learn your name and greet you. Everything was luxurious and felt white glove, I hope to go back soon it was such a great time. The rooms were so clean and turned over immediately. The sunsets were unreal.
We had some bad luck with weather a few days but the staff went out of the way to make sure it was still fun and worth our stay.

Beside high standards of cleanliness and the amazing sunset views from the Lagoon Suite room, we could really feel unique attention to details, friendliness and professionalism of the whole staff. It would be impossible to mention every staff member who contributed to our stay, but we would like to personally and especially appreciate all great efforts from Shahil (our Island Host) and manager Jauzee, our villa attendant Rasheed, always welcoming smiles of Gracia, Gita and Destiny at the restaurant, superb fruit service spiced up with fun of Udaya, delicious pastas of Davide, ice creams and kindness of Remi, and always exceptional service of Reethu at Rainbow Bar. Verified reviewJoy is a spectacular destination for an escape with serene breathtaking views, amazingly hospitable staff, beautiful rooms, and a wide spread of food and beverages that would never leave you hungry. I believe all of this comes down to the amazing group of staff from the welcome received at the airport by Ms. Zulina, to the amazing reception of Ms. Sandali who was nothing short of extraordinary as she was the one who took care of us during our stay, to the amazing hostesses who always remembered us by our names at the Market and made our dine-in so special which include Ms. Gracia, Ms. Gita, the waiter Rozairo whose constant desire to quench our thirst and cravings, the wonderful chef at the food truck Shouhab who engages in delightful conversation while he carefully makes you a juicy sandwhich that makes you craving for more. Let us not forget Mustafa who was in charge of our table at the Palm beach restaurant and made our dine-in memorable and the bell boy and drivers Iyaan and Faizu who was always there to take us around and make us feel right at home. Joy Island is truly a destination that makes for unforgettable experiences, value for money, and thanks to the amazing staff who make it a sensational experience. Verified reviewI loved the resort but most importantly I loved the care the resort took for our overall stay. There was a representative awaiting us at our arrival who guided us, took our baggage and led us to the speedboat. The captain and assistants were just wonderful and kept checking to make sure our family was ok during the 45 minute speedboat ride to the hotel. Our arrival was simply something out of a storybook. We were greeted by Maldivian drummers and led to the reception where we were greeted with a welcome drink and juices for the kids. We were met by the Operations Manager and simply felt extremely welcomed. Our check in was completed in under 5 minutes. We arrived close to the end of dinner time and the staff showed concern and made sure we simply dropped our bags off in our room and headed to dinner. We had most of our meals at the Market which was their buffet. The buffet was well varied with a wonderful selection of salads, cold cuts, cheeses, vinaigrettes, fresh vegetable fruit, grilled meat, roasted chicken, lamb, sausages and seafood. There was soup, breads, curries and the desserts were tucked away in a beautiful room called the room of sin. The staff at the Market were just amazing from the hostesses who greeted us with their warm smiles each and every time. The waiters and waitresses who were always pleasant and inquired how we were enjoying our stay. I could not get all their names but each and every one made our stay special: the hostesses who led us to our table, the chef at the omelette station, the chef at waffle, pancake and crepe station, the waiters and waitresses. Everyone was amazing. The food was delicious and I strongly recommend that you try their Maldivian as we tried everything and loved it! The housekeeping is top notch as well. We stayed in Villas 130 and 132 and the gentleman who took care of our housekeeping was just incredible as our villas were left impeccable. This is no small feat considering we have children!

Verified reviewThere is a lot that can be written about a Joy Island. However, all descriptions should certainly be positive. First of all, the entire service deserves the greatest appreciation, which makes this place even better and accessible to all guests. We would like to thanks a lot Ashraf, Jushann, Leeman and the entire team. They were the most helpful and smiling resort employees we've ever met on holidays in oure live. The location of the island itself is perfect, with easy transfer from the airport in Male. Transport time by speedboat is very affordable. For people who like diving and snorkeling, Joy is a very good base with short transfer times to several breathtaking places. The tideness of the entire resort / the island and the rooms itselves was at the highest level. There are a lot of good things we can say about the meals and dishes served in the restaurant. The quality and freshness of the dishes were at the highest level. Including the preparation of fish caught by myself, each dish was extremely tasty. The great advantages were the dishes prepared during every meal, as well as additional culinary attractions such as mozzarella and burrata made in the restaurant and various types of pasta. The greeting of guests and the farewell are also unique and they remain in oure memory for many days (we still thinking how to organise return journey to Joy). Considering all the positives, we can only recommend a trip to Joy for everyone who want to relax and entrust your special holiday time to the care of professionals.
