How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. This is my second review for this hotel, and unfortunately, the situation has not improved. We had to leave after just one night because the hotel was clearly under reconstruction — the rooms were destroyed, dirty, and in no condition to accommodate guests. It has reportedly been like this for the past three weeks, which makes it even more unacceptable. We immediately requested a reimbursement through Booking.com, but to this day there is no result. The manager, Sajith, has been completely unresponsive to my messages and has ignored Booking.com’s request for confirmation. It feels like they are just waiting for me to forget about it — but that’s not how responsible management should operate. Please take this into account before booking. Think twice before coming there.

The booking was under the 100% cancelation and since you were requesting to leave early , we decided to provide you a free cancelation for one night and on 28th April we informed and accepted the same with the booking . com . This particular booking is not a direct payment to the hotel but via booking. com and we officially accepted the free cancelation for one night even though it was under the 100% cancelation . We are valuing all our customers reviews and ideas but after we provided evidence of acceptance of the refund you have made the review and hope you have received the refund for one night from the booking .com. How ever , we provided room upgrade as well as a good service during your stay and due to a change of your travel plan we understood that your need of the cancelation and we happily honored that. Verified reviewThe location is very close to the pier where you enter the island. Breakfast was nice. Many thanks to Luke, who was very helpful in carrying our luggage to the room and fixing our broken toilet. They also assisted us by keeping our luggage at the hotel after our check-out time.
The rooms looked very different from the photos—there were ants everywhere, and the towels provided were honestly dirty. There was a large crack running across the wall.

Verified reviewVery peaceful place, very quite, very good location. very best staff at all service desks, very supportive and cooperative. Special thanks to Reception team Ms. Chelsa and Ms. Dineshike, Delicious food prepared by Chef Sandun and Team, very good attentive housekeeping team and to Mr. Dinesh. Entire hotel management and team were very professional and extended their services which allow guest to visit again. Location of hotel was very convient near boat pickup point. Everything was very accessible. There was a small shop which supplies everydays small needs.
Nothing is there to put in developmental comments, everything was very well organized and arranged to keep the guest happy.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was good compare to other hotels, the staff tried hard to give proper service but the hotel is bad.
The crystal Sands location was close to boat dock which good to find out. Their facilities are really bad. First they gave us the room at the top. We went there. We figured out that the wifi is not working. After that there is wardrobe in the room. We dont know how to hang our clothes in the room. Then the electric kettle not working, the TV is not working. We gave complain about the room. They told us that we are finding a solution to solve this and they gave the solution to change room not immediately but after the next day, we only booked the hotel for 2 days but already 1 day passed in the bad room which is really disappointing

STAY AWAY to book tour from this hotel ,bad services , waster time , waster money . Water flood over dinning room & Lobby . Sand Crystal Hotel told that the tour pick up 9am . We waited at hotel lobby since 8:50am but the tour is not start until 10:30am , almost 2 hours waitting . 2. The most terrible is : 23 customers on this tour but they have only 15 snorkeling gears and only 5 gears working, all other 10 ofher gears are broken and damage . We must to take long for our turn to get snorkeling gears . Few family must wait almost 2 hours for take turn to get a gears . Terrible! Please improved your services, you can not rip customers like that . The most priority for snorkeling is gears but you have not have it while gears is not expensive to purchased . Waste time , Bad service

Do not book tour from this hotel . We had very bad experiences take nurse shark tour from this hotel 1. Hotel told us that the tour pick up 9am . We waited at hotel lobby since 8:50am but the tour is not start until 10:30am , almost 2 hours waitting . 2. Verified reviewThe location of the hotel is great. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Wifi doesn't really work. They were rehabbing the room across from me. At 11PM I asked the front desk to have them stop - the construction did not stop. I went down to front desk multiple times and eventually security told them to stop at 2AM. At that point I stood by my door until I was sure they were actually stopping. The next morning the front desk apologized - but then that evening they did the same. Another guest and I put a stop to it around 10PM. My room and my friend's room had water leaks above our beds. Water was dripping down on us while sleeping. In my room the balcony door did not completely shut. I felt the staff did as much as they could to accommodate guests (outside of construction), but we wished we would have picked a different hotel.
