How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The neighbourhood can be loud and lively, but the hotel tries (and mostly succeeds) at making it less disruptive. And inside the hotel is wonderfully calm and cool.

The overall score awarded leaves us very disappointed as we believe that it falls short of the efforts that we put into the services provided. If there is anything that we can do differently in order to improve on the experience, we would be grateful for you to let us know. The only less then positive comment which you have included is that the room allocated was the room designed for guests with limited mobility. Our designers have worked particularly hard in making this room as inconspicuous as possible however, it is appreciated that there are some notable differences. Having said that, should you have mentioned this during the stay, we would have gladly offered an alternative! In case this was the main reason for awarding an overall score of 7, it would be most disappointing. In case there were other issues, we would be keen to hear from you. Thank you again. Verified reviewLocation, location and location - the best possible position if you want to be in Valletta and in center of everything. Cleanliness of interior and exterior. Hot bathtub and privacy at night. View from the terrace. Availability of room appliances like iron, bathroom accessories etc. Free bottled water in unlimited quantities (you just need to call room service for another bottle). Reception is open 0-24.
Breakfast is really bad - too few choices, and everything imported and “casual market” quality, we are lucky that we have not taken offer of “only” 10€/day for entire stay (10€ is not too much for breakfast, but in this case, it is overpriced). Our entire stay (4 nights) was really good, but we would rate it in total as 8/10, and for the price of almost 350€/night (without breakfast and any other content) we were expecting it being 10/10, so we are a little bit dissapointed - we know that we are paying for the location and terrace with hot tub here, but still, everything should be on a little bigger scale. Part of the hot tub massage functions (about 30%) were not working. There are 2 large construction cranes just above the terrace with hot tub (picture provided) so there is a lot of noise and no privacy during the day - this should have been mentioned prior to our arrival and we think this should have large impact on the price of the suite (we are paying large premium for the privacy, and you don’t have it during the working hours). There is no sun protection on the terrace (sun umbrellas or any other kind) so if you don’t want to be on direct sunlight, you can use terrace only after 17:00 h). In the Q/A section here it is mentioned that it is possible to ask for sun umbrella, but they don’t allow it due to security reasons - we can understand that, but this needs to be emphasized before booking). Most of the staff at the reception does not speak good english, and it seems like they are avoiding you just so that they don’t need to speak at all. Hotel lift is really slow - it has only 4 floors, and it takes several minutes to call it and arrive to last floor.
Hello dear guests, Thank you for the extensive review. Thank you for commenting positively regarding our location, housekeeping standards, views, in room facilities, and reception services. It is s little confusing for us to read the positive comment about housekeeping and yet note that you scored cleanliness at 7.5/10?? thank you also for your comments regarding breakfast. We recognise that our selection is not to your taste, and also that you thought it was not good value. Thankfully, you had the option to take or refuse, and only pay if indeed you wanted - since you did not like it, you were not obliged to take/pay for it! therefore, no harm done. We recognise that you thought that overall, the price that you paid for the accommodation did not give you the value that you would have wanted. It is a little difficult for us to understand what could have been different for you to think that you are getting good value. Naturally we ought to highlight that the location (something that even you pointed out) is the most central, and the size of the space (overall >50sqm area size of room and terrace) is more then generous. Furthermore, the services and facilities have been designed to maximise space and opportunities available. Your comments regarding the functions of the hot tub have been noted - we have verified and found all to be in good working order. Regrettably, there are 2 cranes in close proximity of the hotel. However, neither one of them breaches into the privacy of our guests. One of the sites is nearly two blocks and well below the level of the room that you had occupied - furthermore, works on that site has been halted for around 5 to 6 weeks already. The other site is on the side of the building in a way which makes looking onto the terrace impossible. Therefore, whilst recognising the nuisance (slight noise disturbance) of the works, it is very difficult for us to understand how this could have created privacy issues. To avoid possible safety issues, it is advicable to avoid having large tents/shades open of the top floor of the building. We follow this advice, also because the infrastructure in place, and the direction of the sun creates shade without the need to erect additional tents/umbrellas. Your comment regarding the accessibility of our staff is rather disconcerting. Whilst recognising that our staff are international and English is not the first language of some of us, we take pride in the fact that we are all very approachable and have developed a positive reputation for the spirit of hospitality that we convey to our guests. This could not possible be achieved by 'seems like they are avoiding you just so that they don’t need to speak at all' - admittedly, some of us might have slipped up and/or some incident might have happened during your interaction however, this would be very much out of character. Nevertheless, your comment has been taken on board and we shall be conducting internal meets to discuss this and investigate any possible issues. We concur with your comment regarding the speed of the elevator. Taking into account that the building is over 300 years old, there are limitations of what can be done and how when it comes to fitting in modern commodities in this environment. Having said that, we stand by the choice of the elevator, also because of the positive features (such as low noise) when considering that it is a maximum of 4 floors. The room was spacious with everything that one guest would ever need, in a very central point of Valletta. Excellent breakfast and a cafe americano that was waiting for me every morning!
