How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe couches in the living room were extremely uncomfortable, they creaked. The bed was of poor quality. The whole stay was a disaster. Dust and dirt everywhere. We couldn't sleep because heavy machinery was working under the apartment windows from morning (06:15) until late afternoon. And the little son couldn't handle it.
We booked a stay for 7 nights (20th may - 27th may 2025) at this apartment. The host sent us before arrival a video which showed how to get to the apartment etc., it seemed to be a newly made video (it wasn't). We arrived and we were literally shocked. The street and sidewalk was completely demolished and heavy machinery was on the street, road and sidewalk works were carried out every day of our stay from early morning around 06:30. Terrible. The host didn't inform us about this before arrival. We would never book such an apartment knowing such essential conditions. More in the video. Another thing was that the host demanded from us an amount of 21,00 euros for the stay as an environmental contribution. For real, the amount should be 0,50 euros per adult per night in accordance to Malta's law. Children aren't to be charged. So in reality we had to pay for 7 nights for two adults 7,00 euros (the child wasnt to be chraged) and not 21,00. It may not be a big deal, but out of principle and because we were misled and not informed about work with heavy machinery on the street which started in the morning around 06:30, we also complained about the amount the host demanded us to pay. Personally I would never say that this host handled the situation with care and professionally. This was the only terrible experience and stay in Malta we ever had. Misleading practices, either active (providing misleading information) or passive (withholding important information),
Thank you for sharing your feedback. While we respect every guest’s right to share their experience, we feel it’s important to clarify a few things. Your complaints were raised several days after your arrival, which is unusual — especially considering that other guests staying in the same building at the same time left very positive reviews about their stay. We take every concern seriously, but honesty and fairness matter. After reviewing your comments and noticing similar patterns in your reviews elsewhere, it seems this may not be an isolated situation. We believe in open communication, but also in protecting our integrity and the experience we offer. Regarding the roadworks, we understand they can be disruptive. However, they are managed by the local authorities, and as per Maltese law, the permitted working hours were not violated. Unfortunately, this is beyond our control, As for the environmental fee, there was a misunderstanding which has since been corrected. It was never our intention to mislead anyone, and we took prompt action once the issue was identified. Lastly, we treat all our guests with respect, regardless of their profession or background. Attempts to use one’s position to intimidate or pressure us are neither acceptable nor effective. We remain committed to offering an honest, welcoming environment and trust that future guests will see the full picture through the experiences of many happy visitors.

Verified reviewThe clean and modern apartment is just 200m from the Marsaxlokk harbor front with many excellent restaurants. It has 3 bedrooms with a double bed each, a large living room with 2 Sofas, a dining table and a fully equipped kitchen, except a dishwasher. Each room has a separate A/C. The bathroom contains toilet and a large shower and a washing machine. George was a very helpful host and gave us hints and tips Marsaxlokk is a very charming village, probably the best place in Malta if you don't long for partying. Buses take you from the harbor to any place in Malta.
There is a general fresh water constraint in Malta most of the year round which forces every hotel and apartment to handle water ecocomically. However, we got along very well
Dear Werner, Thank you very much for your detailed and thoughtful review! I’m really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Searenity and appreciated the comfort, cleanliness, and central location of the apartment. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I’m glad my tips helped you explore Marsaxlokk and the rest of Malta more easily. I truly agree—Marsaxlokk is a wonderful base for travelers who want to experience the authentic, peaceful side of the island, away from the party crowds. Thank you also for recommending both the village and the apartment—it means a lot! Wishing you all the best, and I’d be happy to welcome you again anytime. Warm regards, George
