How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location was perfect - just in the center of Valletta. Very close to good restaurants, bars, and beautiful buildings. There is a Spar shop nearby where you can buy food if you are traveling on a budget. The atmosphere was good. The room was clean. Robert was very friendly and helpful. The AC and hairdryer were working, and the bed was comfortable. It was quiet and peaceful during the night and during the day, too, even though it's located in the center. There was enough space for two people. We were in room number 2.
There were a lot of stairs you had to climb in order to get to the apartment, which was not a problem for us, but it might be for someone. We didn't have warm water for the first 2 days, and the water pressure was low, but after that, it heated, and it was okay. There isn't a good view or a balcony. There isn't a refrigerator.

Verified reviewExcellent location in the centre of Valletta close to St John's co-cathedral. It was a very comfortable bed and good size room. Kettle, towels, and hairdryer provided. There was an extension cable for European plugs as the main sockets are for UK type plugs. Room has air conditioning which was a welcome relief! Host was responsive and arrived quickly with the keys.
The water pressure was quite low, especially with the hot water, so trying to have a warm shower was tricky. The lack of fridge was also a slight disappointment. I would suggest that the owner gets a small table top fridge that can hold some water bottles if a larger fridge is too expensive to run.

Verified reviewThe location - right in the middle of the city
Some things were broken (the curtains, the plastic thing on top of the toilet, a drawer). There was no hairdryer. There were no sheets for the blanket.

Verified reviewVery kind host and excellent location in the city centre.
Loud church bells, no mosquito nets, TV wasn't working, the bed was quite uncomfortable.

Verified reviewDuring the spring to sightseeing is perfect for a couple of nights. It's on the 3rd floor, so if you don't like the stairs, it's not your apartment. The cathedral is very-very close, so you will hear ringing the bells. For us it wasn't problem, but good to know.
There were some small, disturbing gaps. The first is that there is no door in the bathroom, only a curtain, which can be a problem for privacy, and the toilet seat was not stable. The front door of the building was difficult to close.

Verified reviewI absolutely loved the location — it doesn’t get more central than being right next to St. John’s Co-Cathedral. Our room was clean, with a nice modern bathroom. I had read some reviews mentioning the lack of a bathroom door, but that wasn’t the case in our room, so no issues there. Since we stayed during Easter, the church bells were ringing frequently, but it didn’t bother us at all — in fact, it felt like part of the charm and atmosphere of the city.
The only downsides were the TV, which wasn’t working during our stay, and the pillows, which were very thin and not particularly comfortable.

A lot of step to get to the appartment, but maybe this was the charm too 😊

Verified review“There is no elevator. The apartment smells of sewage. Instead of a 25 m² room, a 10 m² room was given. The air conditioning is extremely noisy

Verified reviewRoom only, shower/bathroom good.
No lift, 80 stairs to the room. TV was subscription only Web TV, no 'normal' local TV. Hard to locate as I was looking for the property shown on your website, this is actually a partial picture of the nearby cathedral, front door to the accommodation is very different and has no signage, looks like a private house, hence I walked past it several times.

Verified reviewGreat central location. Clean and comfortable room. The owner was very helpful in responding to our requests. Good value stay. I would return, but maybe try one of the other rooms. We were in room 1.
There were a few minor things in our accommodation, like a broken toilet seat and no proper shower door, but the location made up for these minor issues. There was no fridge in the room, which would have been useful.

Verified reviewThe location was even better than we expected, and the apartment is very clean and spacious. We had 2 towels each and also for the bathroom. There were 2 hair dryers, extra blankets, hand soap, an iron for clothes. The owner also sent us pdf document with everything we should visit in Malta, good restaurants and telephone numbers we may need. Would recommend, and would definitely stay here again.
