How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property was clean and in a really central spot. Paul the owner was really lovely and welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay.
One thing that could have been improved would be replenishing the kitchen bits, such as sugar sachets and more tea choices but this is very minor and didn’t impact our stay.

Verified reviewTop location for exploring Valletta and the island. Easy access and check in. Nice views.
Extremely hot. Aircon was working but not cooling well the room, resulting in a hot cool room situation. It would also stop working after a few hours being on which means you d wake up at night with 29 degrees to turn it on again. Location is very central, which comes also at a cost of noise as the alley downstairs is very busy with restaurants and bars and people until very late at night. Insulation is very poor.

Verified reviewGreat location for sightseeing. Good shower very powerful. Clean room host and daughter were lovely.
The cooker did not work, the host did not respond in time to my message so I had to throw out my food I was planning on cooking. No natural light in the room, very dark and dreary, brought the mode of the trip down. Air conditioning needs to be updated it is very old and not powerful turns off on its own all of the time.

Verified reviewGreat location for the city center and boat and charming house
A bit noisy in the morning in the hall (staff cleaning) and at night (from outside, restaurant). Windows do not isolate from the noise

Verified reviewThe location could not be better. There are a lot of restaurants nearby, and you can reach everywhere in Valletta on foot.

Verified reviewGreat location and spacious clean room.
The ac was turning off after some time. We had to turn it on again every 3 hours or so. The response could have been more prompt.

Verified reviewFabulous stay, it was a real find, right in the hub but far enough away to be quiet. Great position, everything within walking distance and we even found a swimming platform nearby. Pauli was a great host, highly recommend for a few days in Valetta and try the family restaurant just round the corner, Michelin recommended and the best food we eat while in Malta.
Never did get me head round the TV controls……not an issue for us, but Room 6 is on the top floor so a few sets of stairs but wherever you go in Valletta there are steps, it’s part of the charm.

Verified reviewGreat location, spacious room with many amenities.
The host should be more considerate of guests' preferences. He insisted that we book a taxi from the airport to Casa Lapira, even though I had informed him that we were offered free transport by booking.com. He also suggested we check in before 1:00 PM, despite the booking page clearly stating that check-in is available from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM. As a result, we had to adjust our plans to accommodate his proposed time. The bathroom was clean overall, but there were visible signs of mold in the shower, a rusty pipe under the sink, and some humidity damage. These areas need a more thorough cleaning. For a price of €122 per night, I expected higher room standards.

Verified reviewThe property was excellent - great location, very comfortable/spotlessly clean and the owner Paul was super helpful and responsive.
I liked everything. I suppose there are bars and restaurants nearby so there is a little noise but that’s partly what make it a great location and it didn’t disturb me as they quietened down after 11pm. It’s a nice area.

Verified reviewExcellent place to stay in Valletta, comfortable bed, lovely and clean with views of the harbour. Close to great restaurants including Lapira the family run restaurant, we ate there 2 nights the food is amazing and staff very friendly. Paul the owner was very friendly and helpful. We were close to the wharf to catch a fast ferry to Gozo and a traditional boat over the harbour. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to traveling back to Malta.

Verified reviewPaul was very supportive, he helped us with an early acommodation and also the last day we were able to leave our luggage in the property, because of a late flight. The villa is very authentic, we like very much the balcony.
As we have many devices like phones, watches, tablets, etc. we needed more electrical outlets to plug all of them, but this was not a big issue

Verified reviewThe host, mr. Paul Lapira, is an excellent person. Because of some shooting of Netflix series we had to change our room during our stay. Paul gave us a better room and allowed us to stay one night more for free, that solved our issue of having to spend part of the last day/night outside, given the early morning flight. He is very kind and accomodating, the room is very comfortable, large, clean and right in the center of Valletta. Lapira is the undisputed number 1 in Malta!
Would have appreciated the shower gel instead of hand soap in the shower, but this is negligible compared to the overall stay.

Verified reviewGreat location. The interior is nothing special, but it has everything you need. I recommend booking their taxi service, it’s reasonably priced, the driver is friendly, and it takes you directly to the door
