Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyDidn’t care for booking at the spa or the lack of attention at the pool restaurant.
This was a Birthday trip. The room was set-up beautifully upon my request. The food and drinks were amazing. Hands down best breakfast buffet I have ever had the privilege of partaking in! So much shopping and restaurants near by.

United KingdomI am an outdoor swimmer all year round in the UK, so the outdoor pool was shallow and not what I consider to be a lido. But other people seemed to be enjoying it!
Fantastic room with a sea view. We were upgraded as we were selected to be VIP for the day. Thank you!

ItalyThe poolside spots reserved for hotel guests are far from ideal, as all the best areas are sold to external visitors for a fee. We raised our concerns with both the staff and the manager, but nothing was done to address the issue. In addition, the spa staff was not particularly cordial.
The structure is new and clean. The position is great.

SwitzerlandPlease note: the pool is located just across from the hotel — only a few meters away. You can make a free reservation through the reception. There are two time slots available: 9 AM to 2 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM. It's also possible to book for the whole day. Very important: only the sunbeds in the back rows are available for hostel guests. All others require an extra fee, but the area is still very nice.
"We stayed there with our 3-year-old son. The location is excellent, and the hotel — especially the room with a sea view — was absolutely beautiful.

United KingdomWhere the hotel guests sun beds are allocated. In a sunken part of the pool area with no view
Air con. You can’t hear it and it’s very effective. Room - spacious, modern and ultra clean All the staff were very friendly and efficient. Lovely bar. Lovely hotel foyer. The DJ’s and club music around the swimming pool The sun beds are super comfortable. The prices of drinks and food are very reasonable especially for a 5* star hotel.

SwitzerlandThe “exclusive” sunbeds at the pool for hotel guests, were limited in number so you had to get there at 9am to reserve. They were also the least desirable locations and you weren’t allowed to move even if others (paid for) were empty. Breakfast was very expensive if not included (€30 pp). We were meant to have been VIP guests but this wasn’t really evident. And there were a lot of rules. Pool towels were counted in and out, coffee and water in the room was replenished to a degree. Small things but it’s why I didn’t give more points.
Our room was lovely. Large and with an amazing balcony and view. Aircon worked very well and very stylish decor. The rooms were cleaned and organized twice per day which I loved.

AustriaThe only problem of this property is untrained personnel, whether we are talking about the reception or ancillary staff, and the lack of concierge service. One can immediately see that the general manager is not experienced enough and has no schooling in the leading 5-star properties of Europe (like Switzerland, for example), so he is not able to direct his personnel. I also think that the prices are too high for this level.
I usually do not include the hotel breakfast in my plans, so I cannot comment on it. The hotel is perfectly located and offers all the necessary facilities for a good holiday or business trip.

United KingdomHotel guests had complimentary use of the pool and sunbeds with a bar and restaurant at "Manta" connected by a tunnel from the hotel lower ground floor. Very comfortable sunbeds but rather close together and the music was a bit loud.
Breakfast buffet choice & quality was excellent. However, personally we would have preferred an a la carte evening restaurant rather than a buffet style dinner costing 45 euros without wine. We were very fortunate as the hotel upgraded us to a suite on the top floor so we enjoyed a very large, luxurious room with an amazing view of the harbour and Valetta. Good location for local restaurants and the ferry to Valetta. Spa was very nice with good choice of treatments.

United KingdomThe pool - extremely disappointing. On the Barcelo website it says under the facilities section:- The hotel offers its guests the opportunity to enjoy moments of pleasure and relaxation in its wonderful swimming pool overlooking Valletta. A retreat on the shores of the Mediterranean where you can discover the most exclusive version of Malta. Totally misleading! Navigate the website to discover the pool is owned by a third party and is called Manta. Barcelo are not being openly transparent. There are 183 rooms at the Fortina and I calculate c.50 beds at Manta for hotel guests. Do the maths! Hotel guests need to pre-book a bed 24 hours in advance at the hotel reception. You also need to collect a beach towel from reception to take to Manta. On arrival at Manta the meet and greet hostesses are unwelcoming and if I'm brutally honest, rude (unless you are a non-resident and paying for a day bed). Hotel guest beds are located to the left, tucked out of the way with no view, near the bins and aircon units. 14 beds are available to the immediate left as you enter, in the back row giving you a view of a wall and the sun-beds on the level above. Ask to go right where there are c.18 beds, all in the back row, but the best of the 3 options. Outside day guests have different coloured towels and wristbands, making them easy to identify and get better treatment. Hotel guests are made to feel second best and unwelcome. I noticed by c.2pm any beds for hotel guests not being used are sold to day guests which is clearly why they tuck you out of the way leaving the more desirable beds free to sell. Daily from 1pm a DJ plays club type music which gets progressively louder throughout the afternoon and may not all residents. It's loud and lively, mainly young guests and one day there was a full on fight and the police were called. For the pool alone I will not return and do not recommend the Fortina. Shame as it's the only thing that let's it down.
The newly re-built Fortina Hotel has been open c.18 months and everything still feels shiny and new. The hotel is very nice. All staff in all departments were professional, helpful and friendly. Stayed in a side sea view room (recommend side sea or sea view as standard rooms only give a view of the arrival courtyard). The room was spacious, beds were comfortable, toiletries provided and it was serviced twice daily. Only one restaurant which is buffet. Used this for breakfast only which was included in the room rate (€30 per person if not included). Ample choices. Dinner is also buffet with a different theme each evening at €45. Restaurant staff friendly. There is a bar on level one. Nice decor and attentive staff. The lighting is very bright and I can't help thinking more ambient lighting, particularly in the evenings, would be better. Maybe some entertainment too (keyboard or guitar player who sings a few songs). There is an outdoor seating area which the hotel really haven't made the most of which is a shame as there's potential to make this an inviting space to relax. There is a very well equipment gym and a lovely spa. As hotel guests you have free access to the indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi and hammam. Spa treatments were excellent and there are daily offers available. Bring goggles to swim indoors as the chlorine is very strong.
