How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is great and is good value for money. Rooms were decently sized and staff was aiming to be helpful
Basic goods (like toilet paper or the soap dispenser being refilled) were missing. Note the €20 deposit MUST be in cash, otherwise you will end up like I did, waiting for 1h at the risk of losing a flight, waiting for a basic transaction.

Verified reviewThe location. It was clean and the staff were friendly.
There are some things that I find rather weird, inconvenient and inhospitable. First of all, there is not control for the AC in the room so every time I had to go to the reception to ask them to turn it on or off. This is the main reason for the low review actually. The layout of the beds was also wrong because the AC was facing directly on on the beds. Also, no key was given to us for the main door so we had to wait for someone to open it each time it was closed. Also, I didn’t understand why there was no access to the kitchen all day or at least from morning till night since it’s a hostel. We could only access the kitchen during the morning from 7 am - 9 am and again in the evening. At least, the staff were very friendly, which made the whole situation tolerable.

Verified reviewThe location was good.
The beds felt really unstable, pretty much everything including locker, outlets, light on my bed was broken when i got there. No real effort from staff to fix any of this short term or offer different bed. The shower drain barely worked and the bathroom was flooded as soon as someone took a shower. The room was tiny and the whole place had a strange smell.

Verified reviewit was in a good position, not too far from anything and the rooms were pretty clean and there was air conditioning. it was a pretty good stay.
i just think that a hostel should be able to provide also a kitchen to be able to cook for lunch and dinner. having a hostel and no available kitchen i think defeats the purpose of it

Verified reviewThe only thing that we liked about the property was the location. Close to plenty of bus stops, grocery stores and the beach.
We booked the private twin room, we didn’t stay in the dorms. First of all, the bed frames were the cheapest that you could possibly think of. Every time we moved in the bed, we felt as if the bed itself was on the verge of collapse. The sink in the bathroom was clogged nearly all the time. The room lacks any sort of hangers for your beach wear, which is very ridiculous giving the fact that the beach is just meters away from the hostel! There is no remote for the air conditioning, you have to go down to the reception every time you want to switch it on or off. The bed linen was dirty and full of stains! The housekeeping service would come at very inappropriate and random times in the afternoon, when we would have wanted to just use our private room. We left our towels on the bathroom floor signaling that we want a new change of towels. The housekeeping service simply put them back on the hangers. Mind boggling! When we asked for a new change of towels they told us that they provide one only once a week. We actually had to pay a whopping 12€ for a single towel because they refused to provide us with such a basic amenity for free. Mind you, this is about the twin room which has a booking price significantly higher than the dorms beds. The staff seemed bored and disinterested. One guy at the reception forgot to switch off the AC and we had to ask him twice. When confronted he seemed very clueless and offended that we came with such a ridiculous request!

A hostel can’t control who they put in a room, put they can control how many. I booked a four bed female dorm and they just put one extra person, I ended up with 3 more party girls that smoked and partied all night, got back to the room at 5am - loud, smelly, turning all the lights on, zero respect even after I spoke up. NOT OK.

Verified reviewLocation was nice
We were 3 girls in a 4 person dorm. Imagine going back from a hot day under the sun to find your room keys not working. We went to the reception who was shocked as apparently 3 girls checked in that day and are occupying the beds that we've been staying for the past 2 nights. He opened the door for us and told us to pack our stuff and moved rooms (while the 3 new girls are laying on our made up beds and our stuffs that were on the beds were piled up on the table) and when asked how could it happen he just said "Idk my shift started an hour ago". I think most of the staff are trainees and there are clearly lack of communication, organization, and I would say some basic common sense (why should we moved rooms, why not the new 3 girls who just got there got assigned the new rooms). Air con are centralized so if the room is too hot/too cold you have to go down to the reception. Stayed in many many hostels, never encountered this level of disorganization.

Verified reviewIts location in Sliema was good, close to the beach and some shops etc
Honestly other than the location it was terrible, overpriced for what it was, 3 bunk beds lined up in a hot room, I was supposed to stay for 4 nights but ended up just staying one and cutting my trip short. The room was hot and not cleaned well, the staff were not helpful at all, and rather uninterested in their job. It was not a welcoming environment. I’m not opposed to a hostel where it’s not super social but it was more the general vibe that wasn’t very welcoming. I wouldn’t stay again and I would advise others not to stay also. I have stayed in many Hostels and this would have to be one of the worst i’ve stayed in.

Verified reviewAM Hostel exceeded all my expectations. The place was spotless, beautifully maintained, and had a warm, welcoming vibe the moment I stepped in. Every little detail — from the comfy beds to the thoughtful common areas — showed how much care and pride the staff take in creating a home-like experience. What stood out most was the staff — genuinely kind, helpful, and always ready with a smile or great local advice. You don’t just stay at AM Hostel — you feel like you belong there. It’s easily one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at.
Honestly, it’s hard to find anything I didn’t like. If I had to mention something, it would be that my stay felt too short — I didn’t want to leave! The atmosphere, the people, the comfort — everything made it feel like a place you could happily stay much longer. That’s how good AM Hostel is

Verified reviewThere was mould on my pillowcase and the shower curtain. My towel was dirty, no soap in the toilet or shower. Shower head was broken. Additionally, I was told there was no clean drinking water for Booking.com guests and my only option was to purchase their water.
