Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South KoreaThe location is hard to find, because somehow in countries like Mongolia, they do not want to publicize their business. The taxi driver was nice enough to go around asking, because even though we were at the exact GPS location, the hostel is around the back, next to a playground, and you have to walk/drive through a gate to get to the front entrance. At the moment I came, the attendants did not hear the bell and it was a little nervewracking, having made a reservation to know if they actually existed or not. Mongolia is not a technologically advanced country and they have little experience with tourism, or internet booking. They told multiple guests that they "did not have a reservation." They should operate their business from a computer, and not a phone. Therefore the payment system, and booking system, as well as the checking out were rough, and the employees get rude. They have yet to learn what "customer service" is overall in Ulaanbatar. "Pay and come and leave exactly how, and at the minute we tell you," kind of treatment. Otherwise, the hostel would have gotten a 5 star rating, because my experience was great. Mature guests, overall families and older people. It is not a party hostel. It was for adults.
Impeccably clean, and safe. The women who attend to the hostel keep it in perfect condition. I was most impressed with the constant cleaning of the bathrooms, because there are only 2 toilets and showers for a the whole facility, but they cleaned it after every use. This hostel is in the tourist district, very safe, and relatively quiet. All museums in a 10 minute walking distance. Mature guests, family friendly, business travelers stayed as well. A nice environment. The hostel operators offer excursions as well.

GermanyThere is only one man/women bathroom, which could lead to some wait time when the hostel is full.
The double room is really big and has a very comfortable bed. The breakfast is simple, but good compared to other hostels in UB (bread, butter, jam, cooked egg). Even though the housekeeper does not speak english, she tries to help how she can. The manager does speak good english and offers tours. Overall we felt very welcomed and returned.

TaiwanThe managers can’t speak any English therefore they can’t help you with renting a bike or with getting around. They also can’t offer any tours because they can’t speak English. Although I don’t mind because I like cold water, they do not have hot water.
The room is nice and the area is ok. The managers can’t speak English but are very very nice.

United StatesThere was no hot water in the shower and won't be through August due to construction work. I wish I'd known that before booking. Also, you have to check in before 10pm
They had very fast internet. Breakfast was good. It was empty (I was the only guest).

AustraliaI loved the northern 12 day tour and the Gobi and hot springs 12 day tour. Both took me to beautiful locations. If you don't mind not showering for a few days but getting to more remote locations and meeting the local nomadic people- these tours are for you. I travelled with two other tourists, plus our English speaking guide and driver. My guide Riya was so cheerful and thoughtful, and a wonderful cook. She cared for us, like we were cherished family. The driver navigated hours of driving across the steppe with no assistance from Google, he just knows the countryside- incredibly skilled. I will be recommending Sunpath to anyone I meet who is going to Mongolia. Thank you Sunpath team, and Doljmaa you are an incredible business woman, so organised and thoughtful.

RussiaHowever, communication was a major challenge: no one speaks English, which made even simple requests unnecessarily stressful and long time. The manager in particular was unapproachable, often rude, and gave off a very unwelcoming attitude. We stayed here for over a week but left feeling disappointed and unwelcome. Be aware: the moment checkout time hits, you might literally be shown the door – don’t expect any flexibility or the option to wait inside for a taxi or transfer. A place that could be great, but ultimately left a bad aftertaste.
The property itself is impressive at first glance – very clean, with the beds are large and comfortable, the kitchen is good enough for cooking, wi-fi.

GermanyAnother example of the poor management: one morning I was having breakfast while my husband was still asleep when the lady suddenly approached me and demanded a payment (a fairly large amount) even though we had already paid upfront. I explained that my husband had the money and was still sleeping, but through Google Translate she insisted: “Wake him up. I ordered a taxi and need to go. Pay now!” It was completely inappropriate and pressured. Eventually after calling someone through the phone, she realized she was making a mistake. Also, just a quick note on breakfast, it’s extremely basic: bread, butter, jam, and hard-boiled eggs (if there aren’t too many guests; otherwise, no eggs).
Good wifi.

GermanyI waited to write this review to cool off, but unfortunately, our experience at Sunpath was truly disappointing. From the start, we faced constant communication problems. Staff don’t speak English, and Google Translate didn’t help much. The kitchen is poorly maintained, everything is greasy due to low-quality dish soap, and every day they cook heavy, smelly meals for outside guests. A friend staying in a dorm was forced to change beds multiple times for no clear reason. When she asked (politely) not to be moved again, the tour guide snapped at her in an incredibly condescending tone: “Do you know what BED SHEETS are? They're BLANKETS.” It was humiliating and unnecessary. Things escalated when we checked out before a weekend trip. We were told by staff we could leave our large bags and return later for our smaller ones. When we came back and sat briefly in the common area, the tour guide showed up, smiled, and asked, “What are you still doing here?” We explained, he immediately turned cold and barked, “It’s not OUR policy. LEAVE NOW.” We tried to explain that we had been told it was fine and had another reservation for the following week, but he refused to listen and ordered us out. We were so worried about our luggage we shortened our next booking to just one night. When we returned, no one knew about our reservation, the room wasn't ready, there was no hot water, and we were woken the next morning by the same tour guide screaming at another couple: “NO ROOMS! NO CHECKOUTS!” despite the fact that we were checking out and space was clearly available. That couple ended up leaving after he tried to charge them more than the listed price. Sadly, we weren’t the only guests turned away despite having bookings. It seems the tour guide either thinks he owns the place or actually does and he’s running it into the ground.
The location is quite central, you can reach all places of interest in less than 20mim, the private room was spacious and the shared bathrooms were cleaned daily, those were the only real positives.

United KingdomThe cold showers, the basic facilities, the entrance and the fact no one else was staying there….
We had booked a tour with Sunpath so made sense to stay at the hostel beforehand. It was also extremely cheap! However that was the giveaway. It was an uninviting entrance - looked pretty dodgy - the taxi driver even came in with us to double check things were ok!!!!!! The lady welcomed us and was very sweet. We had a double bedroom and having flown overnight we were desperate for a shower and a quick sleep. We were then told no hot water until mid August (this was July) Not ideal. Cold showers it was. The bathroom/showers were very basic. Also, it appeared as if we were the only ones staying which was a bit odd. It was fine but I wouldn’t stay again. However the Sunpath tour we did was incredible!!!
