How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation, helpful staff and decent breakfast
Noisy room that got quite hot. Loud people outside. Rooster noises. 1 bathroom for 8 people in the same room. No keys or anything was odd. Lockers couldn’t fit a basic backpack. No soap in bathrooms.

Verified reviewNothing to be liked
Absolutely horrendous experience. The place was filthy—disgusting floors, grime everywhere, and the mattresses? Completely wrecked. Every single one was curved, busted, and felt like sleeping on a pile of broken springs. I woke up in agony with severe back pain. The host was a nightmare. We booked a 4-bed room, and because of their incompetence and overbooking, we were forced into an overcrowded 8-bed room. We made it clear that their screw-up wasn’t our problem, but they didn’t care. And to top it off, when we came back at night, our belongings were gone. No apology, no explanation—just a cold “move to the 8-bed room.” Unbelievable. No toilet paper. No soap. No basic hygiene. No comfort whatsoever. And if you value sleep? Forget it. The place turns into a chaotic circus until 5 A.M. every single night. Zero respect for quiet hours. Overall: a complete disaster. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone with a shred of self-respect. Avoid it like the plague.

Verified reviewRooftop Terrace, Internet, Funny Owner, decent breakfast Okayish value for money, you get what you've paid for.
Accomodation: Rooms were super hot, no airflow, no window. Showers were fairly dirty & it was hard to get some sleep. Mattresses definitely had experienced some rough years.

Verified reviewDo yourself a favor and stay somewhere else if you can. I had booked a private room for two via a friend's account and then one night alone in a dorm. When we arrived, the private room on the ground floor smelled like a damp, moldy basement, absolutely disgusting. We didn't want to stay more than five minutes there, let alone a full night. The room had no window to the outside, only one that opened to the reception area, so it felt weird keeping it open. We asked for a different room and got two beds in a dorm. The room and bathroom were disgustingly dirty, like grime had been accumulating for years. I often stay at hostels and would say that I'm not very sensitive when it comes to shared spaces but I really didn't want to touch anything there. The beds were so old and used the mattresses had a V shape (see photo). We left asap and moved to a different place. Only kinda nice thing is the rooftop which has a pretty view over the medina but is very dirty like the whole place.

Verified reviewI absolutely loved my stay at The Riad Hostel Tangier! Everything about this place exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the space is clean and beautifully decorated, and the location is perfect for exploring Tangier. A special thank you to Mr. Khalid, who made the experience unforgettable with his kindness, helpfulness, and genuine hospitality. He truly made me feel at home. I can’t recommend this place enough – whether you’re passing through or staying a while, this hostel is a gem. I will definitely come back the next time I’m in Tangier!

Verified reviewThe location is good. The hostel is a lovely Riad.
The staff were iffy about payment when I arrived and refused to give me a receipt. The receptionist offered me drugs, told me he was going to take me out on a "guided tour" despite me saying no at least 4 times, demanded a cigarette and was generally creepy. He seemed to spend most of the time getting stoned with the other staff and clients. Several females staying complained of being sexually harassed by the staff, with one girl telling me one of them had tried to fondle her breasts. Breakfast was supposed to be from 7-11, but didn't appear until 10am. The hostel was not cleaned very well. Men regularly entered the female only dorm and one refused to leave.

Verified reviewHad an amazing stay. Super relaxed vibe, the kindest people, and once you enter the rooftop, it's very easy to blend in with the hostel's overall daily rhythm, from the nice breakfast in the morning till the late nights.
