The property was amazing, from the rooms to the dining areas and the swimming pool. Everything is very clean and the interior and gardens are beautiful. Youssef and the staff were very accommodating and organised everything, including the transfers and excursions. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The food was very delicious including the breakfast (wide range of different types of breads, pancakes, spreads, fruits, fresh OJ, eggs) and dinner (we had the seafood paella, fish, and chicken tagine). The property is also in a very good location within walking distance to markets, restaurants and the beach.

It is a little oasis at the foot of the medina....great location. There is a door on the street and really when it opens it is beyond expectations.....it lush, green, quiet with very nice rooms and nice pool and great staff......It is one of the nicest independent hotels I have ever been to. Yousef and the staff are also amazing....very attentive and very, very friendly......if you can...go...

    It was all great!!

Perfectly located, with a charming, rustic colonial character that made it feel like stepping back in time. The sense of seclusion was wonderful, and the staff were exceptionally kind—helping us arrange taxis and a knowledgeable local guide.

It could do with a spruce up!

What’s not to love about the Mimi Calpe?! It’s a fabulous property with gardens everywhere and little sitting areas. A gorgeous pool at the top of the hill that overlooks the bay of tanger. The rooms are private and beautiful. And the staff are phenomenal. Karim, Youssef and Zorah were fabulous FUN hosts!

Depending on what room you’re in you might have to deal with a slight plumbing smell.

    The pool area was nice

Had to pay for parking (about $10/day) a little walk away. No ac. Expensive but I think all of tangier is and this place has a pool. The Medina is a big uphill walk.

Hotel Mimi Calpe is set within a beautifully restored period property, rich in character and full of charm. The house itself is striking, with elegant architectural details, gorgeous traditional tiles, and thoughtfully styled interiors. The location is another major advantage — just a short walk from both the Medina and the Kasbah, it offers the perfect base for exploring the historic heart of Tangier. However, while the communal spaces and exterior impress, the experience inside the rooms is a sharp contrast. The guest rooms and bathrooms are tired and lack essential updates. Fixtures are loose, furnishings feel worn, and there is a general lack of investment in basic amenities. There is no air conditioning, poor lighting throughout, and a worrying absence of privacy — bathroom windows offered no visual barrier from the outside. Most concerning are the dangerous electrical configurations. Electrical sockets were placed directly next to the toilet, and the light switches were located inside the shower area, which is effectively a wet room. This poses a serious safety hazard and reflects a broader lack of attention to functional and safe design. The bathroom setup is also quite inadequate: the shower was faulty and required maintenance, and there were no standard fittings like a toilet roll holder, towel rail, or hooks. A lone plastic beaker was provided for toothbrushes — a detail that felt more hostel than boutique hotel. It’s a real shame, as the potential here is enormous. With such a distinctive setting and visual appeal, Mimi Calpe could be a standout destination. But as it stands, it feels neglected and under-invested, especially when it comes to guest comfort, safety, and privacy. Until significant improvements are made to the rooms and bathrooms, the experience sadly doesn’t match the promise of the property’s appearance or location.

    Property response:

Dear Khan, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re pleased that you appreciated the character of Mimi Calpe, its unique architecture, and its privileged location in the heart of Tangier. These elements are indeed part of what makes our house special and memorable for many of our guests. That said, we’re truly sorry to hear that your experience in the room did not meet your expectations. In general, guests who stay with us express great satisfaction with the atmosphere and comfort offered by our rooms. However, we understand that our aesthetic and our philosophy — which is deliberately rooted in a certain sense of time and place — may not suit everyone. Mimi Calpe embraces a particular spirit: that of a historic home preserved with care, where the charm lies in its authenticity rather than modern standardization. Still, we take your concerns seriously, particularly those regarding safety and functionality, and we will review these points internally with our team. We thank you again for your comments and hope that, despite your disappointment, you were still able to enjoy your time in Tangier. Warm regards, Baptiste on behalf of Mimi Calpe

Last stop on the trip and what a punctuation. I received incredible hospitality and warmth from manager Youssef and Buzidi. Both are so accommodating, kind and attentive. Stunning lush gardens blanket the property with plenty of sunny alcoves to enjoy the views of Tangier or cool off in the pool. Delicious dinner served at the property complete with Moroccan creme brule. Thank you Mimi Calpe team for making my last hours in Morocco so enjoyable! 5+ stars!

Beautiful house and gardens, staff were super helpful and friendly, location was great, lovely to have a dip in the pool, relaxing little oasis in Tangier, loved the cat memorial

We stayed in the garden room which was on the whole lovely but be aware it’s quite small for 2 people, also the shower water leaked under the door and into the bedroom so be careful if you have anything near the bathroom door as it will get wet, breakfast was ok but to be honest not the best I’ve had in Morocco !

The gardens and pool are fantastic and the location is an oasis in the middle of the old part of Tangier. Breakfast is delicious and the rooms comfortable. Youssef and Kareem were excellent hosts. Will visit again.

Suppers are simple and there is no liquor license. I ate out most nights.

We really liked the design and the atmosphere. You can feel the esthetics of the early 20th century. Everything is made with a very good taste, including the room and the restaurant/reception area. The garden is also very nice. Our room was comprised of 2 bedrooms, small living room, entrance hall and a bathroom. The main bedroom (with double bed) faces internal yard, while another bedroom faces street. The personnel was polite and friendly. Breakfast was tasty (omelette, bread and pastries with butter and jams). The location is good, 5-15 min to Medina. There is no parking but public parking (4-5 dirham per hour) is about 3 min walking from the place.

It could be a bit noisy at night (due to the road nearby). There are stairs from the street to reach the property
