How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStayed two nights and ate there each evening. Couldn't have been much better, all local fresh produce. Also did a 4x4 trip with Ali and an hour of quad biking too, all organised by Ali, aided by his sons.

Verified reviewAli and his family run this authentic Moroccon hotel very well. It overlooks the Erg Chebbi sand dunes which Ali can take you out to stay in overnight or for just a trip.. His son Hassan can take you out on quad bikes. He will also guide you on your own dirtbikes through the dunes and if things get too hard for you then he will ride your bike back while you ride the quad. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. Evening food was great too. Highly recommend

Verified reviewThe place is really beautiful. Owners are very kind and helpful. We took a trip on camels at sunset that the owner organized for us and it was great. The breakfast was delicious and big. We were during winter and it was warm in the room thanks to air condition. Also owner can organize 4x4 trip and has quad for rent.
Everything was perfect.

Verified reviewAli is the perfect host and will meet your every needs. My daughter and I went on an overnight Camel ride and stay in a Berber tent which was was about 1 hrs ride in to the dunes. This was great apart from the quad bikes which I feel ruin the peace and tranquility of the dunes. Apart from this aspect our stay was perfect.
We didn't like the Quads but Ali really can't help this unless he moves his camp further in to the dunes.

Verified reviewThe owner of the venue has helped us by camel tour and many subjects.Camel Tour Guide Adin Cok is a good person. Ali prepared us a nice breakfast
The air conditioner in the room does not warm enough and the night was cold. There was no hot water in the bathroom. the water is lukewarm and slow flow
Hello, The remote control for the air conditioning works very well, both for hot and cold. You should have come and asked us if you couldn't get any heat, instead of messing everything up (which you did). The same goes for hot water. It's not lost on you that we're in the desert. It hasn't rained for 3 years. The water flow is reduced at times by the distribution company. I'm always surprised and incredulous when people want to have the same comforts in the desert as they do at home, without even questioning the specific living conditions here. I wonder if you are aware that your poor rating may have repercussions on the frequentation of my house, for the wrong reasons.

Verified reviewThis is a wonderful place to stay, very quiet and family-run. You're much closer to the dunes than you are in Merzouga, and it's not too difficult to get into town if you want to, although the village has a few useful shops and places to eat. Ali was friendly and very helpful and yet also gave me plenty of space. He helped me organise transport to Ouzina for a very fair price and even gave me a lift into town once. This is the kind of place that all independent travellers should be supporting - it's affordable, offers all you need, and is run by local people.
I liked everything.
Thanks a lot, Nick. I hope your trip from Ouzina to Marrakech was nice !

Verified reviewWe were there for birding in the desert, and the location could barely be better. Very nice, simple food (main course: tagine). We booked a second night while there.
The shower wasn't great. Sometimes lukewarm, sometimes with weak flow.
I'm sorry about the water flow. But we are in the desert and the water pressure is very fluctuating. Nevertheless, I hope you had a good stay.

Verified reviewThere is no rating high enough that can truly summarize how we felt during the couple of days we spent with Ali at his place. We met an extraordinary man (and his son); incredibly kind and "HUMAN" who built a jewel of a place, just a stone away from an amazing desert. La Vallee des Dunes is a beautiful Riad; our room was very nice, clean and comfortable with its en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and dinner was delicious... This already deserved a 10/10! But additionally, Ali organized for us a Camel Sunrise Ride and a 2-hour Quad experience in the desert: This was EXTRAORDINARY and WONDERFUL! He also took us on a 4-hour 4x4 drive in the desert he loves so much...This was AMAZING! This brings the score to 20 out of 10!! The whole experience at the Vallee des Dunes will stay with us forever, also thanks to a beautiful human being! THANK YOU ALI... We truly hope that our paths will cross again.

Verified reviewI liked the quiet location. Closeness of the dunes.
The overpriced breakfast, bad smell coming from toilet. No clean blankets. Unusable internet connection.
You have reserved 2 rooms without breakfast for a total of 4 people. You arrived with 8 people, and you did not want to pay for breakfast, claiming that it was included in the price, which was not true. After several exchanges by messages and telephone, you finally agreed to pay for the breakfasts and the supplement according to the occupation of the rooms. We suspected that you would write a bad review about your stay. This comment is a simple "revenge", because you did not want to admit that you were the only one responsible (misunderstanding of the announcement on Booking or bad faith???).
