How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAn excellent Riad, with a lovely terrace, but the real highlight of Dar Essaouyry is the staff. It is low season, and I was the only guest in the Riad for the 3 nights I stayed in Chefchoeun this time. Idriss and Saed took wonderful care of me. As a solo female traveler, they made me feel safe and welcome, they showed me how to make beautiful Moroccan food and even invited me to join them at their table to eat spectacular home cooked food for two evenings. The best food I have eaten in the whole of Morocco was at their table. Idriss is an amazing host with a kind and generous heart; teaching me arabic, taking me to Akchour and Gods Bridge, helping me to buy the electronics I needed and providing me with advice for the next part of my trip. I will always remember how welcome I felt and how generous they were with me. If you're a woman on your own and/or you are traveling Morocco to experience connection, conversation and hospitality, then this is the place for you.
I booked a very small room, my bed is very hard, and the hot water is a bit patchy. But these are minor points. My stay at Dar Essaouyry was 10/10. I loved it.

Verified reviewThe location was nice and near everything, and the decor was beautiful.
Housecleaning was not consistent during our stay, and we were told both our rooms would have air conditioning but only one of them did, and this was really harsh on one of us with a heat allergy. The beds were not comfortable. We were also promised breakfast in our booking but that wasn’t provided. There was nothing to take pictures of.

Verified reviewThe location and the responsible for the riad are the biggest assets. Very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help. Breakfast is wonderful!
We find it difficult to mention less positive aspects due to the very friendly atmosphere. The rooms are - we knew this in advance - a little cramped. Some have no AC.

Verified reviewConvenient location in Chefchaouen although my opinion of Chefchaouen is “Tourist Trap”. If you don’t have time to stop there you didn’t miss much.
1. Small, freestanding air conditioner in the room on the shelf was not capable of changing the temperature in the room. I specifically booked this place because they represented air conditioning and I knew the two nights I was going to be there were supposed to be quite hot. 2. Noise outside the window at all hours. 12:30 in the morning, right after midnight, I was able to hear a few men talking and some small children who were outside playing. I looked to see the men sitting below my window by the front door of the building. It was quite hot when I visited Chefchaouen in July so closing the window made the room very uncomfortable. Perhaps this is why people were outside in the middle of the night. At 2:39 I heard either scooters or small vehicles in the alleyway. 3. Shower drain did not work properly. I held the handheld shower head over the sink to let the water get warm before wetting my body. Then I’d shut off the water to use the soap. Then rinse. Even by doing that I was standing in water that almost covered my toes. Yuck! Luckily I didn’t have to wash my hair. 4. This is the first place the “guide” asked if I wanted to buy marijuana. He wasn’t a guide. Just insisted showing me from the taxi to the hotel. Since he didn’t take the hint the first few times I told him I don’t need his assistance I finally told him I’m stopping to shop. He still asked for a “commission”.

Verified reviewThe host, Idriss, was one of the kindest people we met in Morocco. He gave us advice on where to eag and what to do and always seemed happy. The hotel is in a very central part of the medina, just a few metres of a main street, which makes it very quiet but still very convenient too with everything close by.
The room was a bit small but had everything we needed!

Verified reviewWe didn't see the staff apart from at breakfast but they were very pleasant. Breakfast was very good. The Dar has a lovely terrace and is in a great location. It was cheap.
We stayed here 3 nights and our room wasn't cleaned, nor the bathroom waste bin emptied. I got a mild electric shock from putting my hand on the wall. I think the electrics are dodgy.

Verified reviewCute little dar. Had I not stayed in wonderful riads leading up to this stay I may have been more impressed. It was good.. fine. The guy was kind but not very helpful. I have become accustomed to riad hosts going above and beyond. Breakfast was lovely and the best part was the location. The city is wonderful - im glad I stayed overnight :)
Maybe some more enthusiasm Help getting to/from taxis. The guy working could see I was struggling with bags and made no real effort to help.

Verified review> Easy check-in. > Easy & quick check-out. > The exceptionally good staff. > Very friendly host. > Excellent water tap pressure. > Hot & cold water. > Comfy bed. > Excellent Wi-Fi. > Central location. > Clean throughout. > Good valuie for money.
> Bathroom had a very narrow doorway. You couldn't go straight in, but had to go in sideways. We both hurt our arms on the doorway walls when using the bathroom. > Room & bathroom had negligible ventilation. So it was very humid in the room throughout the stay. > Very small bathroom. That in itself is ok, but also meant taking a shower flooding the bathroom. > Dim lighting in the room. > 1 electric socket on each side of the bed; meaning you could either plug in a table lamp or your phone - but not both. > Location: not easy to get to from the main road via taxi. Do not believe the taxi drivers that it's a 2 min walk from the road. Do not take a taxi as the drivers drop you at the base of a mountain and the hotel is up a mountain and carrying bags up about a 100 stairs is not easy for 15 mins. Instead, walk yourself from the CTM bus station (~10 mins and no stairs). > Not much space/table in the room to open & unload bags.
