Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI probably would not have written anything here if the hotel wasn't vastly overrated as 4-star (on booking.com anyway). It was fine and comfortable but more like 2.5-stars, imo. My reasons: Impossible to sit on the toilet without the lid falling onto your back, Poor quality liquid soap and no shampoo or body lotion, Small and tired looking shower, Thin towels with threads hanging off them, A small stereo cd player! A old style tube tv, Only two teabags provided - no coffee or milk (description says kettle and a tea/coffee maker), the "juice" at breakfast was low quality, whereas the rest of the breakfast was pretty good.
The room was quite large and clean with big windows. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet (especially with double windows to the street). The staff were lovely and the breakfast was good. The location was excellent - right at the edge of the old town, near the bus stop for the airport bus (No. 22), and a few minutes walk from the bus and train stations.

United KingdomRoom was as described with a roof window, however, there was a very flimsy see-through curtain over it so it let in a lot of light from dawn which made sleeping difficult. Need to bring an eye-mask
Location excellent for exploring the city. Good breakfast.

GermanyOlder hotel, lighting in the room could be brighter. Room where food for breakfast is provided is tight due to tables there as well. Can sit in 2 other rooms which are tight as well, or sit outside. Luggage storage is in one of these rooms so not a locked space.
Easy walk from train station abd then into Old Town. Room was large, AC worked well, nice to have fridge and lift to upper floors. Breakfast included, friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed the covered outdoor space for an afternoon drink.

United KingdomThe restaurant for breakfast is below ground and is rather cramped, dingy and airless. It is possible to take a tray outside to the terrace but it is quite a distance especially if you forget something. The hotel decor is a bit tired.
Good location on the edge of the beautiful old town, within easy walking distance from the train and bus stations. Good bathroom - spotlessly clean. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Excellent reception.

UzbekistanWe really enjoyed our stay at Boutique Hotel Monte Kristo. The location is extremely convenient – right in the heart of the Old Town, close to everything. Breakfasts were tasty and varied, a great way to start the day. The interior has a unique and charming style, which makes the hotel feel special and memorable.

FinlandThe hotel restaurant is really small and during breakfast it was difficult to move around at the restaurant. The coffee maker was slow and taking into account the small space, it was a little uncomfortable. Also the service at the terrace wasn’t at it’s best, the staff didn’t see if there were any customer and you needed to go inside to get served.
The location was great, near the old town but there was also the central market place and Origo shopping center near. Getting around was easy, since the central train station was near and a public transportation bus from the airport got you just 5 min walk away from the hotel. The staff was helpful and enabled an early check-in although it’s the high season. The ability to have breakfast at the outside terrace was a plus.

New ZealandThe only thing I can think of is one day we went to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. This was around 8pm, but we got told only drinks were being served.
My favourite thing about the hotel was the location. Under 10 minutes walk to the local Riga market, coach station (which we used to and from), main sites and scenes of the old town. The room in the hotel itself had everything that you would want for a 2 night stay. A massive bed, bath, seating, storage. It was great for what we needed. The breakfast had a variety of foods available - toast, cereal, hot foods, hot drinks, juices, local cuisine. And the space where you had breakfast was rather cool - it was underground with stone walls!

United KingdomHotel is right in the old town. 8 minute walk from the bus station. 2 minute walk from the bus and tram stop. Perfect location for us as we arrived by bus and left by bus to go direct to the airport - no changes. Breakfast room is small and quaint. There is extra space both indoors and out. Hot food, breads, cereals, cheeses, hams etc all available. Room was great.

United KingdomThe beds were quite uncomfortable and the room had no natural light except for a sky light which had no blind. Some of the plugs didn't work and my (teenage) daughter and I didn't really feel safe in the area at night (so ate in the hotel restaurant).
Very centrally located- all the tourist sites were in easy walking distance of the hotel. It also has an excellent restaurant (with particularly good desserts).

AustraliaThere is nowhere to sit in the room. Even though 2 chairs are provided, there is no table to be able to have a cup of tea or eat. No coffee provided. Only a desk that is cluttered with a very old stereo system that should be removed. Fridge is very noisy, so I had to unplug it, and the toilet seat was very loose, and the lid kept hitting you in the back. Lighting is very dim.
The location was very close to the station and right in the old town. Easy to walk everywhere. Able to store luggage after check out. A very good breakfast is provided. It was clean. Good sized room.
