How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis place made us want to extend our stay in Sigirya. The small cabins surrounded by beautiful gardens and a small green space make for an awesome place to relax in between activities. The breakfast they serve is really delicious and local. The facilities can be improved with time but you really get a great value for money with this stay.
The facilities like bathroom/shower can be improved to provide a really exceptional experience.

Verified reviewThis is such a great spot! The young couple (soon to be family) that runs the place are so kind and helpful! The breakfast is exceptional! We stayed a number of days and it never disappointed, very large helpings! The location is ideal because it is only a short walk (400 meters) to the entrance for Sigariya Rock, so an ideal base for that activity. Also very close to the National Parks for elephant viewing (especially in August). Off the main road so no traffic noise and pleasant for walking. I can't say enough about the helpful staff who helped with all of our activities and transportation!
I can't think of anything. Maybe a bit over-attentive if you don't like that, but always kind!
Thank you Very much Sir & Madam for your review & highly recommendation !😊

Verified reviewIf you are coming to sigiriya you must stay here ! Madura and his wife Chara and their family who hosted us went above and beyond our expectations. The atmosphere was so calm and peaceful. Perfect clean rooms with all you would need plus a little terrace area. The food was amazing. Such comforting home cooked food. The breakfast was delicious and we always got seconds ! Madura took us in his Tuktuk everywhere and collected us too at a discounted price - even to pirudangula rock at 5am and waited for us to complete our hike up and down. He also organised a jeep tour to Minneriya park for a really good price too which was amazing ! Also organised a driver for us to Kandy. So relaxing and so lovely - highly recommend.

Verified reviewIt was really beautiful! Wonderful location in the bush, away from busy roads. Staff were great and the safari guide they recommended was awesome. Breakfasts were the best we had anywhere! We ended up going to one of the many closer hotels for a swim for 1000LKR so no real loss not having a pool.

Verified reviewMadura and his family made our stay extra special and we had the best time. The rooms are spacious and clean with comfortable beds and clean bathroom. The gardens and landscaping add to the character the of place and are inviting and well kept. We had breakfast included in our stay and it was really delicious with variety and good amount of food with traditional hoppers, roti and curries and fruit. We also had a traditional dinner that the family prepared and it was very special and delicious. Madura also organised our national park visit and transfers to our next destination. He gave us suggestions for things to do and organised transport which made our short visit really easy to plan and enjoy. The location is a short rickshaw ride from main attractions and the town with other cafes and restaurants. I would highly recommend!
Nothing, everything was great.

Verified reviewMadu and his wife are extremely caring hosts. They are one of the kindest people I have met travelling around the world for so long. The cottages are set in a beautiful garden full of trees and in complete nature. The breakfast is big, very tasty, fresh and authentic sri lankan. Real home cooking. The room is very clean with comfy beds, very strong air con, mosquito nets, a nice toilet and a nice relaxing verandah outside. Price wise is very good quality and not very high in price. Madu is always available to drop you in town whenever you need(700-800 LKR per way) and organized us a very nice elephant safari nearby. We literally saw hundreds of elephants. He also organized other transfers we asked help with. He is always kind and available but never pushy and extremely polite. Madu and his wife are very good cooks and his wife cooked very spicy food for me upon request and it was very delicious too. Their restaurant is worth trying. The place is very clean and well taken care by all his family including his father who is a very nice guy too. This place is very relaxing. 100% recommended

Verified reviewEverything we would say! We love the location and how much nature this place offers. It’s away from the popular spots in Sigiriya but only takes you a short scooter ride to get to those spots. In return, we get this quietness, tranquility, and calmness - the true beauty of towns like Sigiriya. Our hosts are wonderful and super friendly. Breakfast was delicious. I couldn’t recommend this villa enough. And don’t forget to take a walk around if you are here - you’ll love it!
