Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe had a wonderful stay at Danu Homestay. The room is small but clean and comfortable. Danu is a great host – he genuinely cares about the well-being of his guests, gives helpful recommendations for local restaurants, and organizes trips if needed. For a fair price, he even drove us to Anuradhapura himself at the end of our stay. We felt completely comfortable and well taken care of. Highly recommended!

ThailandStaying here was such a smooth and peaceful experience! Danu takes care of everything — from organizing a Polonnaruwa day tour to arranging a safari jeep, all directly from the property. I loved how serene the surroundings were, with wild animals living so peacefully nearby. A perfect mix of convenience and nature!

GermanyThe room might need some renovation shortly, espacially the walls are facing some issues with moldiness given the high humidity. But also Danu is already renovating the other apartment, so this in in progress.
Danu is a perfect host, picked us up in Trincomalee, took always care of us, drove us to the Rock in the morning and picked us up again. He also dropped us in Kandy for a very reasonable price and we enjoyed having dinner with him and even met some of his friends for a night out. Really fun and a 100 % recommendation if you prefer a nice homestay with some local food and experiences over a big hotel.

RomaniaIt would be perfect if the owner could provide/rent bycicles for those who want to enjoy the nature for more time there.
We were very welcomed by Danu, from the begining. He picked up from Dambulla and drive immediately to his homestay. The propriety is placed in an idilic location very close to the main attractions. Danu provided us transport for free very early in the morning to climb Pidurangala at sunrise. The breakfast was good.

Danu s a very friendly host, who welcomed us with a cold drink. The room is clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed, including mosquito net. Bathroom is basic but clean. Terrace in front of room with two chairs in the shade was great to relax. This property is not close to bars, shops and restaurants (20 minute walk) but on the other hand the rural setting is beautiful and very calming. You can have breakfast and an evening meal at the homestay on request. We didn't use this option because we like to try different places but going by the reviews it should be good. Danu is helpful with transportation or you could rent a scooter or bicycle. Danu dropped us off at Pidurangala for sunset climb and views of Lions Rock, free of charge. He also checked in with us later by text to see that we were ok and if we needed transport back, which I found thoughtful. We booked the elephant safari with Danu, which was a good experience. Danu is a reliable driver and knowledgeable about the elephants. We saw around 20 elephants and were lucky to see a baby elephant as well! Depending on the season you can see big hurds but that is more in the dry season. Overall a very enjoyable stay and would recommend this place. But as stated before it is a bit out of the way.

United KingdomThe only thing to improve would be the frogs in the bathroom - we had a few, Danu helped us remove them at first but then we learned to be brave and began to remove them ourselves with a plastic bag.
We had a great stay at Danu’s! He was very helpful in giving us a lift from near Kandy to his place and showing us an incredible herb garden and the Dambulla caves on the way. He also drove us to Polonnaruwa where we rented bikes, which was amazing. Danu works incredibly hard to keep his guests happy and even made sure his friend gave us a lift in a tuk-tuk one night when Danu was out of town - Danu checked in to make sure we were safe, which was appreciated by a pair of female travellers! Danu’s wife cooked us delicious food for dinner and breakfast. The stay was also incredibly good value.

GermanyTwo frogs in the bath but no drama since it is a place in the nature.
First i want to confirm previous recommendations that Danu is a very nice and hospitable person. He arranged several tours for us, brought as to the start points and picked us up when they were finished. That was very nice! At our first day we did a tour on his recommendation including a short boat trip and a traditional lunch. After this we had a Safari in the Minneriya National Park with Danu driving a Mahindra Bolero Maxitruck. We saw many elephants and Danu could answer our questions regarding the animals and some of their behaviours in the wildlife. In the evening we had a very delicious dinner cooked by Danu's wife. Second day we visited the Pidurangala Rock to see the sunrise. Before our next activity Danu drove me to Dambulla and picked up something we forgot in the previous hotel. This was very nice of him and a fun trip with the scooter. After this we did a day trip to Polonnaruwa and learned about the ancient city, Buddhism and Hinduism. On our way back we stopped at a gemstone showroom where you could learn about the mining and the different stones. If you like minerals and jewellery its worth visiting. The information and the showroom lead to the jewellery shop. For us that was good because we intended to buy something. At this day we took our time and Danu waited for us with a lot of patience. Thanks again. In the evening we again had an extraordinaty good dinner. Really good. I bought a small bottle Arrack and we were happy to share it with our host. I definetly recomment this place.

Amazing place, amazing owners. We would have loved to stayed more than just one night but we were only passing through the area. The Homestay is just a 5min drive from Pidurangala away, we wanted to visit for sunrise. (The better and cheaper alternative to Lion's Rock.) We had stayed in 8 accomodations throughout Sri Lanka so far and this was definitely the best one. The room was super clean. Not just clean but also smelling very fresh and with a wiped floor. The same applied to the bathroom: spacious, very clean, just really nice to be in. The AC was working perfectly and the bed (super comfortable) hat a moskito net you could use. WiFi was pretty decent, too! We also had a super delicious dinner at the homestay, so full recommendation on that. Thank you for the truly great stay.

GermanyWhat a wonderful home stay on a beautiful location directly on the Pidurangala rock and sigiriya rock. Highlight number 1: The host Danu and his wife are heartwarming people who will do everything to make your stay unforgettable. We arrived late at night at sigiriya after a very long journey from Germany. Danu picked us up at the city with his own Tuk-Tuk and since we were very hungry he organized a late night dinner for us.The accommodation is modern and perfectly clean, bed was comfortable and the shower was hot and working perfectly. Highlight number 2 is the terrasse on the Room where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Pidurangala rock and the surrounding jungle. We observed gigantic eagles, fruit bats and many coulourful exotic birds and after the nightfall there were fireflies all over the place. Highlight number 3 are the delicious and rich sri lankan meals Danu"s wife is preparing for the guests. Breakfast and dinner were served on the restaurant.Unfortunately we had to leave after only one nights for our next destination but we will definitely come back if we visit sigiriya again! also we do work on our computer with WiFi .its a such a strong excellent WiFi signal for entire rooms.

United KingdomDanu's place has great air conditioning, a very comfy bed and is really well located for both Sigiriya and Pidurangala. However, the thing that really sets it apart, is Danu and his family. They are so welcoming and made sure we didn't miss anything we wanted to see and could get around quickly and safely. Danu's wife's cooking is fantastic and we would highly recommend.

The price was so reasonable, dinner and breakfast delicious. A beautiful lake (Thalkote Lake) just a 15 minute walk from the house with incredible views over both Pidurangala and Sigiriya Rock. The upstairs room even had an amazing little seating area which got a great sunrise.

He will take you wherever you want (tuk tuk, car), suggest places worth seeing and recommend the best activities. He gave me a bike so I could also wandering around the village. I felt taken care of, safe, I travel solo, so safety is very important for me. The host and his family are very welcoming and the wife prepares delicious meals.

IndiaOur experience at Danu's homestay was nothing short of fabulous! Danu and his family were warm, gracious and lovely hosts. Made us feel right at home. We were greeted with welcome drinks followed by a scrumptious dinner. The food was absolutely splendid, cooked with love by Danu's mum. Danu gave us great travel tips and places to visit. He also arranged for us to go on a saffari ride the following morning where we saw magnificent elephants in large numbers leisurely walking around the reserve. Im glad to have found Danu's home stay definately a wonderful experience worth a visit.
