How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderfull time in Sigiriya. Staying at The Cattleya Guest House was great. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast was delicious with traditional dishes, fresh fruit and juices. Also the hosts where amazing as they gave recommendations about where to go and arranged taxis, safaris and tuktuks for us. Would definitely recommend staying here!

A short distance away from lion's rock, the owner drove us there early in the morning and we were able to walk back. Delicious breakfast served on our patio. Beautiful gardens, was amazing to relax in the hammocks after the climb up the rock. Restaurants and shops in walking distance.

Our host was incredibly kind and helpful to lift us to sigiriya rock for our sunrise hike. Bed was comfortable, shower warm. Walking distance to main points of sigiriya rock and main road.

From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with such warmth and kindness that I instantly felt like part of the family. Verified reviewFirst of all: The accommodation is top! Very nice accommodation, modern, very new air conditioning. The view from the room's own terrace is into the beautiful garden. You can see Lions Rock directly from the garden. The in-house breakfast is sumptuous and excellent. Many of the fruits and vegetables come directly from the family's garden. What we particularly liked was the host Ashoka, who fulfilled all our wishes, organized every trip and excursion for us and had many contacts. For example, we went on a great night hike to the Loris at very reasonable prices. We also had a great safari where we saw lots of elephants. We always had friendly and reliable cab drivers / tuktuk drivers organized by Ashoka! All in all, we felt at home and were sad that we hadn't booked more nights. The accommodation is truly a hidden gem! We will definitely be back! Help was also offered for the rest of our trip and we were given some tips and trips were organized. Many thanks for everything!

Ashoka is the most welcoming and caring host. The breakfast on the patio was really special as monkeys and mongoose paid the visit. :) Totally recommended!

Verified reviewAshoka was a fantastic host, very kind and considerate, with lots of helpful suggestions of things to do and support with organising transport. Would really recommend climbing Pidurangala rock at sunrise - the views were beautiful. Dinner on our second night was cooked by Ashoka’s daughter and was really lovely. The room itself was good, with a really big and comfortable bed. Unfortunately the air conditioning was broken on our arrival which meant that the room was sometimes uncomfortably warm. Ashoka provided a fan and did everything he could to get the air conditioning fixed as soon as possible - we think that a new air conditioning unit was being installed on the day we left, so hopefully this won’t be a problem for the next travellers. The host kindly gave us a discount as we did not have AC.

It also makes me happy to hear that you appreciated the dinner prepared by my daughter. We’re truly sorry for the inconvenience caused by the air conditioning issue. A gecko had entered the outdoor unit and caused a circuit breakdown. We tried to find the necessary replacement part, but unfortunately, it wasn’t available in Sri Lanka. Since the repair would have taken several days, we arranged for a brand-new air conditioner. The supplier had promised installation during your stay, but due to an unfortunate delay, they couldn’t complete it in time. The new air conditioner has now been installed in the room, and we’ve also managed to repair the original unit. It will be kept on standby in case of any future issues, so this won’t be a problem for upcoming guests. Thank you again for your understanding and kind attitude throughout. Verified review- One room was very smelly, the WIFI wasn’t working, the air condition did the job but could be stronger. + The rooms were private, facing a garden. The owner was kind and drove us to the Sigiriya Lions Rock for our sunrise hike for free.

Verified reviewAsoka was incredibly polite and helpful. He helped with recommendations and also hooked us up with a great safari for Eco Lodge. The property is run as a BnB by a family, has a lush green view from the room and the patio and is super clean and comfortable. Breakfast was traditional and plenty for us anyway. There's parking on-site as well. Total recommend. The only thing I would improve is a small partition for the bathroom shower area.

Verified reviewThis is a top quality place to stay. The owners take great pride in hosting well and are very attentive. The breakfasts in the morning (extra charge) are superb and delivered to your balcony. The gardens are beautiful and very well kept. We had monkeys observing our every move over breakfast - watch your fruit! Two nights before us, wild elephants were seen in the garden. The owners organised TukTuk rides and our safari tickets for us. The facilities were very modern and clean (there are just two rooms on site, so it is truely a home stay). The stay was very relaxing, I could not recommend it more.
