How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewClean room and toilet. You need 15-20 minutes by foot to the Unawatuna beach. They have a fen on the sealing and a mosquito net over every bed.
Before booking check with the owner about the number of people in the room, photos are not accurate. We planned trip for 4 people and on the photos of accommodation it looked like we would need two bedrooms. When we came, each room had two double beds which means we could’ve easily booked only one room for all of us.
Thank you very much for your response and I'm sorry if something bad happens to you. But when you reserve a room please check the details along with the photos. We gave you a big room to stay comfortably so as not to make you uncomfortable...😊

Verified reviewWhat a peaceful location! One of the best stays of my whole Sri Lanka trip. It is hosted by a local family. They have very cute 2 dogs. Very friendly. Nearby to railway station, bus station and just 20 mins walk from Unawatuna Beach. Jungle beach is bit far if you want to walk but if you are taking a tuktuk or a bike, then it's just 10 mins away. If you want a budget stay around Galle, then this is the best one. Galle is just 15 mins away if you take a bus or tuktuk.
Nothing as such as I a more of a backpacker traveler. But if you are someone who likes luxury, then you may not like this place much. It gets hot during the day and there's just a fan in the room with big windows. I didn't have any problem though!

Verified reviewThe owners were lovely, very friendly and helpful! Everything in the room was as expected, it was a large single room with a clean and working bathroom (I didn't try the hot water).
There was no indication of breakfast being provided, either when I arrived or any of the mornings. The location is also okay (shops very close), but there are definitely closer options to the beach.

Verified reviewOwner and his family were very welcoming and helpful. There was a mosquito net and very good fan. Guesthouse is located close to shop, restaurant and a bus stop which is very convenient. During the evening walk to our house we were lucky to see fireflies. Everything was perfect! Fair price for the value!

Beds smell bad, I think they don't change bed linen. Bathroom smells bad as well all the time
Thank you very much for your review and we hope you reached your destination safely. Anyhow we cannot accept your review on bad smelling room and bedsheets because you have accepted the room happily when you arrived to Rest Point and we think you have something else in your mind as we didn't agree to wash your clothes according to your prices. Anyway thank you very much for staying with us. Have a safe flight.

Verified reviewI chose this place to spend one night with my girlfriend. It is really quiet and very clean. Although they said that there is food and drink, I got it from a shop outside for our convenience. We met a really good man this hotel. We drink tea and juice several times this hotel

Verified reviewGood localisation, close to the train station and bus stops. 15 min by walking to the beach and 40 to jungle beach. Our things were moved to our room when it was not ready yet. it was very nice. Nice owner and his family. He was always eager to answer questions. The price is very low but still our room was clean, clean bed, clean bathroom. There are some restaurants close by and a supermarket just like 5 min walking. There is a bench in front of the room, it is nice to spend there some time. Nice and friendly dogs.
There is a hole instead of window in bathroom and there were ants, we had a cockroach 🪳, and mosquito nets smell bad, we slept without it. I recommend to have a mosquito repellent which you can plug in to the socket. And there was only one socket. we had a adapter so it was not a problem for us. It’s not in the Main Street, but still it is pretty loud in the morning, and there is a sanctuary close by. Hard pillows and bed.
