We had a great stay! The location is beautiful. The garden with the pool and the cottages is really superb and well maintained. The rooms are great. The breakfast is really nice with fresh fruit from the garden. We were sorry to stay only 2 nights. We had a very good massage just around the corner of the hotel.

An amazing place with even more amazing people! The surroundings are beautiful and well-maintained, the rooms are tidy, the pool is clean, and the food is absolutely delicious. The location is perfect both for walks and for getting around to nearby attractions. Lakmal helped organize our airport transfer as well as a wonderful safari trip to Kaudulla. I felt the water pressure in the washroom could have been better, as the flow was weak.

The manager was incredibly warm and welcoming. The place itself is amazing—you can sit outside in the morning on comfy chairs, enjoy the greenery, and sip on some tea. What truly makes this place special is the property manager, who’s always ready to help and guide you with anything you need.

You need a small tuk tuk ride to the center of Sigiriya, it is half an hour walking along the road. But as mentioned a tuk tuk is easily arranged for you. So for us it was no problem at all. The only thing I liked a little less is that the curtains leave through a lot of light in the mornings. And the fan was a bit noisy. But both things were minor compared to the great stay we had!

What a nice place and run by such lovely people. Everything was arranged for us in terms of safari, tuk tuks, and highly recommended massages. The breakfast is very tasty homemade. The garden is beautiful and the pool a welcome refresher after a day out.

It’s hard to find the right words to describe our stay in Sigiriya. It was our first experience in Sri Lanka, and Lakmal was the best welcome we could have asked for. He made us feel safe and at home, from the airport pickup to the days spent at his house, where we truly lacked nothing. He also gave us the best advice to explore the area, even waking up at dawn to take us around. And the food—my God—you must try his mother’s koththu roti! Lakmal, you should feel very proud of the place you’ve created, and keep being the amazing host that you are. We’ll recommend you to everyone visiting Sri Lanka!

Beautiful setting - the room was clean, comfortable and quiet at nighttime. The private cabanas really make you feel like you have your own space. Lakmal and his family were so warm, attentive and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast there and both were absolutely delicious. Lakmal was also able to facilitate a late check out for us and arrange our transfer to Negombo, which was so helpful. A five minute drive to Lion Rock, meaning it’s convenient to get there for sunrise. The pool area was also great for relaxing after the days activities and we got great use out of it!

Liyon Rest was an absolutely perfect choice for our stay. Lakmal and his family are incredibly welcoming and helpful hosts; they effortlessly arranged our Minneriya safari and all our tuk-tuk needs. WiFi coverage and bandwidth wasn't great. It met a basic requirement, but let's be honest, we're in central Sri Lanka, surrounded by glorious scenery and sometimes it's nice to switch off from being tied to tech.

I absolutely loved this place. A short tuk-tuk ride from Habarana railway station, Lion Rest is located a very short distance from Sigiriya main attraction, Lion Rock. The property itself is set back off the main road that leads to Lion Rock. Upon arrival I was greeted by Lakmal, my host and his wonderful family who welcomed me with some lovely Ceylon tea, which was indeed welcomed after the long journey from Colombo. The property is made up of a number of cabana's around the edge of a wonderfully established garden of mango, coconut, banana and local vegetation. Being the low season, many of the cabana's were being refurbished, and based on what I saw they looked great. The pool was so refreshing and a welcome retreat from the heat. Plus it's a great place just to watch some of the local wildlife that wanders through the surround vegetation. Early morning, you'll hear the chatter of palm squirrels and birds. I included breakfast in my booking and was not disappointed, the choice was great and filled me up ready for the day ahead. I also availed of having lunch and dinner a couple of times and the home cooked food was amazing, they even spiced up the curry when they realised I could handle it. My cabana was spotless, yes it may need refreshing and I believe it's part of the next phase, but truthfully, the room was perfect, a very comfortable bed, great AC and a mosquito next if needed, which I didn't. Being able to sit outside my room and watch the monkeys cause mayhem as they used the established gardens and vegetation as a playground and opportunity to steal the mangos, tamarind and any other fruit or flowers was amazing, much to the annoyance of the local families as they are also dependent on the fruit and veg. I was really happy with the location, which was a very short tuk-tuk ride to Lion Rock and Pidurangala. I also used the opportunity to visit Polonnaruna, guided by my host Lakmal.
